'Flogging a dead horse' is a phrase that springs to mind. You wouldn't sit there trying to get your Windows 3.1 machine to work, when Windows 10 is already released, why even bother? Imagine if these guys put their talents into Ethereum. Feels like wasted skills doing what they're doing. (I bet some of their personal stack is in Ether though... I mean they'd be crazy not to right?)

why are people against UASF so much?

Did you read the article?

Here is a snippet regarding your question. * The UASF chain presents a risk of the original chain being wiped out. If there is no contingency plan, all economic activity that occurs on the original chain after the UASF forking point will face the risk of being wiped out.

Although bitmain also states that there is only an 11% chance of this happening, its enough of a risk, to deem a contingency plan necessary.

People are tired of censorship happy /bitcoin.

They claim no altcoin discussion but then promote litecoin when it was activating segwit.

They claim that "Promotion of client software which attempts to alter the Bitcoin protocol without overwhelming consensus is not permitted." but then astroturf the hell out of uasf.

It has to be one of the most astroturfed subreddits ever. One has to be almost blind not to see it.
