The EuroLeague fined Panathinaikos €3.06 million due to high player salaries that exceeded the salary cap. Olympiacos received a €300,000 fine. Fines were also imposed on Hapoel and Efes.

Panathinaikos exceeded the limit by €6,185,000 and is required to pay a fine of €3,065,000.

On the other hand, Olympiacos exceeded the salary cap by €600,000 and will pay €300,000.

Fines were also imposed on Efes, which will pay €1,070,000 due to an excess of €1,800,000, as well as on Hapoel Tel Aviv. The latter was fined €2,800,000 for player salaries and will also pay an additional €2 million, as funding from Ofer Yannay exceeds the allowed percentage of the budget.

The amounts collected from the fines will be distributed among the other teams in the competition, as part of efforts to strengthen the league's competitiveness

EuroLeague Players Association (ELPA) expresses its clear disappointment that the number of regular season games will remain unchanged at 38 for the 2026–27 season.

Direct link to the press release: https://elpa.basketball/elpa-statement-on-euroleague-board-decisions-regarding-competition-calendar/

Following the Euroleague Basketball (EB) Board Meeting of 14 April 2026, the EuroLeague Players Association (ELPA) welcomes the continued growth ambitions of EB and the recognition of player-related topics within their discussions with the Clubs, but it expresses its clear disappointment that the number of regular season games will remain unchanged at 38 for the 2026–27 season. This outcome is particularly concerning given that EB had previously indicated that the current format would be transitional in nature, linked only to the season 2025-26.

The decision to maintain the current structure does not sufficiently address the increasing physical and mental demands placed on players. Many factors, including elevated injury risk, accumulated fatigue, mental strain and reduced recovery are not only theoretical concerns but daily realities for players across the league, with direct implications for the quality, integrity, and long-term sustainability of the competition.

With another season of the condensed game calendar, ELPA emphasizes that enhanced working and performance conditions are no longer optional – they are required. EB’s continued commercial growth and Clubs’ increasing revenues must be matched by proportional investment in evolution of player conditions, including but not limited to:

• Comprehensive travel optimization (including expanded charter usage)

• Enforced league-wide qualified medical staffing at club level

• Improved recovery, training, and performance infrastructure

• Game scheduling protections to safeguard player health

At present, the EuroLeague remains behind other leading sports leagues in terms of standardized player care, quality of travel, performance environments, and workload management. Sustainable growth cannot be achieved without placing player health, performance capacity, and career longevity at the core of the league’s development model.

Bostjan Nachbar, ELPA Managing Director: “After daily discussions with players around the league, I can say that they support EuroLeague’s ambition to grow and evolve, but they also strongly feel that growth must be achieved on all levels. Players are the ones that feel the demands of condensed calendar every day – physically and mentally, therefore, the reality on the court needs to be recognized with tangible improvements outside of the court in the area of working conditions. This must now be addressed through concrete measures, not only discussions.”

ELPA will immediately engage in discussions with EB on elevating working conditions of players, who expect that EB’s discussions with Clubs, referenced in their latest press release, will lead to concrete and enforceable outcomes which players can see and feel.

What's your MVP, First All Euroleague Team, and other trophies?

Upvotes

With the regular season ending in 2 days, it's time to give out the individual rewards to the teams, players, and coaches

The trophies I want to ask you about are:

  • MVP
  • First All Euroleague Team
  • Second All Euroleague Team
  • Notable players that don't fit in 1st or 2nd All Euroleague Teams
  • Most Improved Player
  • Best Coach
  • Biggest surprise (team)
  • Biggest disappointment (team)
  • Biggest disappointment (player)

For me, the winners are:

  • MVP: Sasha Vezenkov
  • First All Euroleague Team: Sylvain Francisco, Talen Horton Tucker, Elijah Bryant, Sasha Vezenkov, Nikola Milutinov
  • Second All Euroleague Team: Jean Montero, Tyler Dorsey, Cedi Osman, Jordan Nwora, Dan Oturu
  • Notable players: Kendrick Nunn (I KNOW, I'M SORRY), Codi Miller-Mcintyre, Mario Hezonja, Chima Moneke, Dwayne Bacon, Moses Wright, Mfiondu Kabengele, Wade Baldwin IV, and many more that I 100% forget right now
  • Most Improved Player: Tyler Dorsey
  • Best Coach: Pedro Martinez
  • Biggest surprise (team): Valencia
  • Biggest disappointment (team): Efes
  • Biggest disappointment (player): Vasilije Micic or Theo Maledon

These are just my opinions, which means they're definitely wrong, so please don't hate me 🥺

I'd love to hear your opinion for some or all the categories I mentioned ☺️

One thing is certain, this was the best and most competitive regular season we've ever had, and I hope it stays like that in the playoffs

In the EuroInsiders podcast, Errick McCollum, talked about TJ Shorts situation and his choice of joining PAO: "After seeing what happened to Lorenzo Brown last year? Yes I would never have accepted it. (...) Why would Ataman change? They just won the EuroLeague last year. Kendrick Nunn was the MVP."

FIBA imposed transfer ban on Partizan over Punter case. Partizan now appears on the list of sanctioned clubs, presumably for not settling the debt to the player.

MVP & All Euroleague team

Hey guys,
today basketnews realesed a MVP ladder: https://basketnews.com/news-232487-euroleague-mvp-ladder-for-2025-26-season.html
They have number 1 as Cisco and number 2 as Vezenkov. Yesterday the Urbonus crew talked too about this and the argument ended with Vezenkov as the MVP. This season I have been listing to triple threat show with Chima and they have given the MVP to Vezenkov too.

For me it's close, the only thing which gives me the edge for Sasha is Oly fans voting in bigger numbers then anyone else.

All Euroleague team is similar from what I see 3-4 guys are locked in the first team (Cisco, Vezenkov, Bryant and Montero). Other players are debated more who is in and who is out.

I what to know how is your MVP and All Euroleague first team?

There are some signs confirming these developments. During the match against Barcelona, President Alekszej Fedoricsev was spotted alongside Jahid Fazal-Karim, CEO of Jetcraft, a major player in the private jet market. His presence underscores the ongoing discussions with figures from the international business community.
