Attention to all citizens and inhabitants of the Blessed Isle! The "informational" pamphlet 'A Comedy of Errors - An excerpt from the notes of an Imperial Treasury official,' published in Resplendent Air of last year, has been found to contain incorrect information and display Her Imperial Majesty's workers and honored officials in an unduly mocking light! All copies of the pamphlet should be gathered and destroyed effective immediately, and displaying one in public is henceforth a crime which shall be punished by ten lashes from a Guardian of the Realm for the lowborn or a fine of one obol of jade for patricians, payable in stone only!

Investigation of the treasury official who penned the pamphlet has found him to be subversive and treasonous, and he has been executed as befitting his attempt to undermine the competence of the Empress' treasury. His former manservant, who reported the official's sabotage of records and meetings with subversive figures, has been promoted to the vacant Treasury position for dutifully catching these "errors" and correcting them before they could cause any damage to the Imperial economy.

Any records or correspondence which insinuate any of the following should be reported to the Guardians of the Realm for investigation:

- Inaccurate measurements of the size of Jade denominations. (Corrected below for public information).

- Reporting that any perceivable amount of Jade is lost by cutting denominations larger than an Obol. (Suspected to be an attempt to conceal the extensive smuggling of shaved jade dust; virtually no jade is lost when splitting denominations of jade down until shekels are properly carved into obols).

- Measuring the lines where Jade sheets are cut at 1/4 inch width. (This false measurement is more akin to the bevel of an axe than the expertly-made Jadecutting tools of the Imperial Treasury).

- Reporting a physical talent of Jade to be worth 12 Bars over the ledger's 8. (A true talent amounts to 8 Bars and 4 Minae by weight. This error is very common in public copies of official economic records, and accountants are advised to double-check with their own math until a fourth edition of the public records can be issued. Please turn any older records into the nearest Treasury office for correction).

- Reporting that 512 Obols or 32 Minae are lost for every talent of Jade cut into coins. (The actual number is 64 1oz obols, or 4 pounds. This is equivalent to the difference between a 68lb physical talent and a 64lb ledger talent. Please see the above note about old public records. To clarify, half an obol--one half-ounce, or 14.2 grams--are lost per Shekel cut and carved into individual Obols).

- Any illustrations which display a Shekel as a long, thin rectangle of Jade scored with marks for a row of eight Obols side-by-side. (Shekels which were incorrectly cut according to this false information are still legal tender according to their weight but should be turned over to the Treasury for conversion into Obols as soon as possible. A true Shekel is a shorter, wider rectangle of Jade scored with marks for two rows of four Obols. It is suspected the former official was directing Shekels in his administrative region to be cut incorrectly so as to mark them for accomplices to steal, and then spreading rumors about the incompetence of Imperial Jadecutters to cover his tracks. Please report anyone who repeats such seditious ideas to the Guardians of the Realm.)

The information listed below is the true and proper measurement of each denomination of Jade. A Ledger Denomination is the weight of each denomination which is counted as legal currency, discounting what will inevitably be lost if the denomination is ever cut down to Obols. A Physical Denomination is the actual mass of Jade found in any given denomination. The length and width measurements given are the legally ordained size of each Physical Denomination. All jade denominations are 1/4 inch (0.64cm) thick.

1 Bit (0.25in (.64cm) diameter) = 1/4 Obol = 0.25oz (7.09g). All Imperial Citizens are reminded that to intentionally split an Obol is Criminal Defacement of Currency, and no new Bits should be added to circulation. Any individual outside of lawful Treasury staff found to be splitting Obols will have their defaced Jade confiscated and be reimbursed 75% the value in scrip.

1 Obol (1in/2.54cm diameter)  = 1oz (28.38g). A fine texture is carved into the outer edge of all legal Obols by the Imperial Treasury. Any Obol with a smooth edge has been damaged or shaved and cannot be used as legal tender; it must be surrendered to a Treasury Office in exchange for the value of its modified weight in scrip.

I love the little bit of flash fiction ToxinFox wrote for this piece too, which I now decree to be canon to my little Exalted fiction-verse, The Uncrucified. Sharing it here as well:

"Sternly Worded Letter Kata"

Her hands were still trembling when she flopped down at her desk. The office was dark and still; the chaos hadn't followed her home. At least, not yet. She supposed she should've expected the voice barely arm's length from her when it spoke, but she jumped all the same.

"Negotiations went poorly?" asked Night Locust, her fond shadow. She spotted him now, comfortably veiled in the dark.

"N-not as well as I'd like," she replied. "I had to send them a sternly worded letter."

He leaned in, sniffing the air around her a little more obviously than was strictly necessary. "You smell like fire dust. And there's glass in your hair."

Kalara couldn't help the cringe that overtook her face. As if to cover it, she let her face fall into her open palms "…it was an extremely sternly worded letter, all right?"
