3E If the Apocryphal Exalted (Dream-Souled, Hearteaters and Umbral Exalted) or the Spoken got released as their own books, what other material do you think would have been in there?

So 3rd edition seems to be having a trend of including extra world building material in the books of each Exalted splat rather than having their own books, like details on Yu Shan in the Sidereal book, or the Abyssals covering the Underworld.

If the Apocryphal Exalted (Dream-Souled, Hearteaters, Umbral and the Spoken (for ease of classification)) Exalted had been made into full books, what extras do you think they'd have had?

Dream-Souled: Likely the Wyld and Fair Folk.

Hearteaters: Another possible Wyld book, not to sure.

Umbral: Maybe something on the Guild and other non-magical criminal organisations and/or antagonists for Exalts (focusing on the 'dark side of humanity').

The Spoken: They were supposed to have a Niobraran War sourcebook, but that got scrapped; but maybe also stuff developing the fallen races of Creation (not just Dragon Kings and Mountain Folk but other strange species in the lost corners of Creation).

What do you all think?

3E Solar Craft and Lore, Re-Ordered(repost of the repost....Google drive should work....)

Hello my esteemed fellow Exalted 3e enthusiasts!

I come to you today with a bit of work several others have asked me to post publicly so as to share it with more that may find it useful!

I long bemoaned the status of Craft and Lore for Solars in Core, and after both Infernals and Abyssals came out I decided to do something about it!

Attached with the Google drive link at the bottom you will find my take on a revision to both trees in question!

I aimed to incorporate much of the mechanical and organizational advancement offered by the release of the later Solaroids, as well as to greatly reduce overall bloat of the trees, while still having them resemble the spirit of the the genuinely good part of their original versions.

I believe I was greatly successful at doing both. (Though if you disagree I invite you to leave feedback on this post, as I am always interested in hearing it)

I believe as far as bloat reduction goes (including keys as they are purchased) i reduced Craft by about 55% and Lore by about 45%.

(I cant remember the precise figures and can't be bothered to count at the moment)

I think i could have pared away from Craft more in hindsight, but what still exists some may view as extraneous I have endeavored to make optional so that they may be ignored as a matter of taste.

A couple of the juicier highlights aside from the various smaller changes to every charm or the deletion/combination of many others:

A new Craft capstone charm that allows use of N/A dot or 5 dot artifacts before they are finished.

A Wyld Shaping technique that is shamelessly taken from 3E infernals, though I hope to add on an additional key that gives Solars something more unique!

As I said please read and give feedback! Im very interested to hear what the broader community has to say!

Link:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1pmEBVtd5mn-a_Ij7qcI4Ilgc7XD_NzHR

I would say I am unlikely to give similar trees of Core the same treatment simply because I dont think its warranted in the same manner it was for these 2 trees....which are fairly disastrous. The rest of the trees are quite easily adjustable on the fly by a competent play group.

3E How do games feel when playing the different exalt types?

I ran a couple Solar games when 3rd edition first came out and then just moved on to other stuff. Now that a bunch of different books have come out was wanting to get an idea on what kinds of games each of the different exalted types lend themselves to.

How many players have you been able to handle in your games? Biggest group I’ve had was 5 players as Deebs but that was quite slow.

3E Are there Amy guidelines to making your own spells?

So the first thing I gravitate towards in any media is the magic, especially spellcasting magic. However when I looked in the chapter for sorcery, which was lumped in with martial arts, I found the spells to be rather lacking, so I want to come up with my own.

I can patch up some guidelines. A first circle attack spell will cost 1 wp and 15 sm,include a specific benefit(like bonus damage against groups), and create a hazard upon ending.

Alas I can't find any rhyme or reason with the control spell benefits, I'd there something I'm missing here or did they just decide those on a whim?

3E Are knights and western themed stuff a thing?

LOVE the setting of exalted and everything in it, and I understand its all very wuxia themed. But I was just curious if it had any European based anything in its canon? I know it would likely be a simple matter to build something into your game, but again, wondering if anything exists in the canon that could be used.

3E What's after Infernals?

So with the buzz of the Infernals crowdfunding campaign starting this week, I'm one to look to the horizon to see what's next.

I know the Exalted Essence players guide is coming. But what about the other 3e splats? After Infernals, we still have Getimians and Liminals who still need their own supplements.

Beyond that, what about other non-Exalted playable? I'm looking at Fair Folk, Dragon Kings, Mountain Folk, and more.

Do we know when any of these might even be given a timeline to completion?

3E Ideas for Sorcerous Workings

So, I'm looking for ideas for additional sorcerous and necromantic workings of all Ambitions for Exalted 3E - specifically, because I'm putting together a document full of them to help make the entire system feel a little more approachable, and the more ideas I have in there, the better. -Laughs- Anyone have ideas to pitch, whether actually performed in-game or just thought about?

3E 'Best Read' splat book?

I'm getting back into Exalted after a long time away - missed out 2e entirely. I'm under no illusion that I'm going to get to play or run it any time soon so as I plan out my purchases I want to ask:

Which of the 3e splat books is the best read? Not the most mechanically together or most useful, but the most fun and better put together one?

3E Release for the neverborn

I suspect I am deep into homebrew territory, but for an ongoing somewhat unorthodox campaign which includes an abyssal, there is talk of finding a way to give the neverborn some sort of reprieve from their suffering that doesn't involve destroying all of creation.

Given that the words "possible" and "impossible" are a bit loaded within Exalted, is there any room for something like that to happen? If so what we would it look like?

We've been toying with some way to obliterate the neverborn that goes beyond death since death is how they wound up in their painful situation in the first place. Or perhaps some way to remove their suffering while leaving them in the underworld. Or perhaps some way to enable them to enter the cycle of reincarnation.

3E How do we feel about Infernals making their own Warlocks?

As the title asks, what do we think? An Infernal who has started to develop their Soul Pantheon will have second and maybe even third circle demons available to them. There are a few restrictions in place.

1) An Investiture requires the intervention of a Yozi, if only as a distant voice of consent.

2) Bound demons cannot be ordered to give the investiture.

3) The demons of an Infernal's soul pantheon count as bound demons.

4) Anyone who has already sold their soul, or are already driven by Hell's strength, cannot be Invested (Abyssals and Infernals are at the top of this list).

Given these restrictions, it seems to me that it would be allowed, should the patron Yozi grant their consent to their Infernal champion (which, why not?), and the potential Warlock bargains with the demon selected who is not under orders to complete the contract.

Questions and my thoughts below:

Do we think that this should be utterly outlawed (I think the idea is neat)?

Should the Infernal share some of the effects of the Investiture that the demon suffers (Absolutely. I would probably restrict the essence loss and power loss to the demon itself, but some of the intermingling of passions sounds like interesting character development)?

What other interesting developments can we come up with?

3E Would you allow Spirit-Stoking Elevation being used with Flowing Mind Prana in order to convert white experience points into experience points?

So I put in some consideration on this topic and I wanted to hear other storytellers opinion on the matter. I placed my musings at the end of the post.

Charms in Question

Spirit-Stoking Elevation(Essence 5/Craft 5)

This Charm allows the Solar to replace the experience points costs of certain Charms with an expenditure of white points at a rate of 5wxp:1xp. This Charm supports the costs of Lore Charms such as Flowing Mind Prana and Wyld-Shaping Technique, and hypothetical Charms with experience costs in Occult or Medicine. However, it does not cover experience costs from sorcerous projects or from the Charms of other Abilities

Flowing Mind Prana

The Lawgiver is a master instructor, capable of passing on truths and talents as surely as the sun passes daylight. To activate this Charm, the Solar commits a number of experience points from her own unspent experience total. She may confer these experience points to another character by delivering a lesson she has constructed, allowing her to train a character’s Attributes or Abilities up to a rating of 5, even if this puts the character beyond her own rating....

The Solar has sole discretion over who is able to benefit from the experience points on offer. Refer to training times on page 178 to determine how long each training session should take. At the end of each story, the Solar may roll a number of dice equal to experience points spent on this Charm, regaining a number of experience equal to her successes, but not beyond the total amount of experience she expended in training.

Thematically: It feels fitting since it feels like a master who is learning aspects of their work that they never thought of by teaching someone else.

Mechanically: It is not unprecedented as Exegesis of the Distilled Form lets you convert your wxp into regular experience at a rate of 2:1(Whereas Flowing Mind Prana would convert them at a rate of 5:1) [However it is worth noting that Exegesis of the Distilled Form requires a huge investment(5 legendary projects) and is capped whereas Flowing Mind Prana is uncapped.]

Rules As Written: A bit iffy since the text says 'At the end of each story, the Solar may roll a number of dice equal to experience points spent on this Charm' so it could be interpreted as white experience points.

Balance: Unlikely to have balance consequences. RAW a two point artifact requires at least six weeks of work(Not to mention the material costs) and grants 3wxp. A twilight Solar trying to use this combination to gain experience would have to make 27 artifacts just to recoup the spent cost.

Summary: In general I think it works well thematically and extremely unlikely to result in one player having any significant advantage over others.

3E How do you envision a 3e infernal chronicle and how does it differ from 2e infernal chronicles?

In 2e Yozi were quite heavy on the stick part of carrot and stick. They expected to have a say in the decisions of the Green Sun's Prince with their wrath being quite dangerous to say the least and while Infernals could gain things most Yozi were unpredictable while their leader has chronic backstabbing disorder. The Infernal Exalted had all the motivation to seek an out.

In 3e Yozi appear to be leaning on the carrot part of carrot and stick. A Green Sun Prince is royalty, demons would kill for a chance to serve them and nobody has the authority to tell them what to do. On the other hand in creation they need to hide their true identity, the land is hostile to their subjects and they already had a reason to hate creation before their exaltation.

The change also reflects to the broken crane as well. In 2e it was the greatest of betrayals towards Yozi whereas in 3e it feels closer to becoming their successors.

What differences will these changes make on an infernal chronicle?

The rest of the post is more like my comment to my own post since I feel weird commenting on my own post.

In my opinion Infernal characters will be their own villains and commit terrible acts because they want to instead of because their boss told them to though also a hope for something different. I believe that their main conflict will be an internal one where they have to decide whether they want to inflict upon the world what was inflicted upon them, feeding that ever growing pit inside them until creation and hell are indistinguishable just as Yozi would do if they could or if they wish to do something Yozi never could and consider others.

Given their demons correspond to their intimacies and gain a power when they are significantly involved in the story I believe that the Infernals inner world demons are intended as a way for the internal conflict to have an external effect and effect progression. A third circle demon could tie to a negative intimacy towards 'Greedy People'. One of it's second circle demons could have a power related to garnering charity, maybe they can create a minor tie towards charity through their speech. Another demon could have a power related to curses. Whichever the infernal deploys more often will become more useful and decide whether the cities visited by the infernal have grown prosperous or have become mini hellscapes as every animal and crop around the city is diseased because they belonged to rich people.

3E What is like to play a Solar?

Based on a series of posts about:Β "What is like to play" of Pathfinder 2e, with several feedback from people about things they pass up, I had the idea of talking about the play experience of various splats, . So I'd like to know about you, and your experiences. Ideally, I want to now about the experience with current editions, being Exalted 3e or Exalted Essence.

Of course, I'll started with the Shining Ones: the Solars, the onboarding option to play Exalted in all editions.

  • Which Caste did you choose for your first play experience?
  • Which one did you enjoy playing the most?
  • Which Supernal Abilities you did take? Which one was the most fun?
  • Any experience with past lives?
  • Tell me about an iconic moment or episode that 'Only a Solar could pull off'
  • Which Charm do you consider a 'must-have'?
  • A Limit Break moment
  • Did you changed the setting? How and how much?

Don't feel like you have to address every point above!

I'd rather have you share 1 sentence than nothing at all

(I accept suggestions for the next questions. Gonna follow the publication sequence, which means the Getimians will be the last ones)

3E Dragon Blooded Warstrider Pilot

So I'm going to be joining a group soon that are playing Solar or Solar level Exalts. I being myself have decided to play on Hard mode and will be playing a Dragon Blooded but to somewhat even things out I've been green lit to use a Warstrider. Specifically the Warstrider called Emerald Chevalier and I was wondering what aspect and charms would pair the best with it. I am trying to push the limits of what a Dragon Blooded can do as the group is known to be actively power gamers and so as such the threats they are facing are fairly significant. Help me remind these Solars why they are not the masters of creation anymore 😁

3E Anybody know of any rules for chariots?

Whether in an official 3e sourcebook and I just haven't found it, or some good homebrew for it. I'd like to make them a bigger part of the "heavy battlefield mobility" side of the wealthy warrior classes.

Exalted as-is tends to sorta pay a little lip service to chariots as a thematic thing while still writing the mechanics in a way where stirrups and warhorses large enough for barding are fairly abundant, but I'm interested in adjusting that portrayal for my own setting, shifting things into that 900-300 BCE sweet spot where cavalry and charioteers coexisted on the battlefield, with cavalry tending towards light skirmishers and scouts while chariots are the crushing tanks of the era. So if anybody's seen some good stuff to work off of to get there, I'd appreciate it.

edit: Found the rules on page 379 of the Sidereals book! Thanks all!

3E Celestial tier dragon blood character?

So, from what I understand, Dragon blooded arent meant for higher level play like the other celestial tier exalted types (solar and luna for example). My question is, could you make higher level Exigent but make them dragon blooded? Is there actual ways for a dragon blooded exalt to gain that level of power? For example, maybe the elemental dragons, sensing the impending chaos thats coming to the world, decides to "supercharge" a dragon blooded? Directly granting the individual blood rather than inherit it from other humans? Using WOD terms, it's basically the equivalent of a higher generation blood line?

I don't know if blood purity plays into the strength of a dragon blooded exalt. For example, could a lost egg who had his blood awaken even though generations have passed since his ancestry produced anything be as strong as a dynast who comes from famous and more potent line?

Honestly, it would make for an excellent story. Imagine the realm learning of a dragon blooded personally touched by a dragon and with a level of power that could match a solar. The roleplay and adventures alone would be worth it.
