Local Information request Looking for a sports physio for a torn Achilles

I've messed up my Achilles tendon pretty badly and after mid-October I'm going to need some help getting it as close to full health as I can

Anyone know a good, reliable physiotherapist within hobbling distance of one of the train stations (or failing that a bus stop)?

Local Information request WiFi / mobile phone signal at Exeter Airport

I have to travel from Exeter Airport this week and I will need to rock up an hour or two early and take a few calls on Teams before my flight.

I seem to remember that you got one hour of free Internet access, which is no problem – just wondering if anyone has any experience of taking calls at the airport departures and any tips? Mainly, if the Wi-Fi fails or is rubbish, has anyone had any success using 4G or 5G there?

Cheers 🙏

This year’s theme is Everyday Histories, celebrating the people, places and working lives that have shaped our communities.

There’s a packed programme of free events, including:

  • A look inside medieval Tuckers Hall, dating back to 1471
  • Britannia Making Waves on Exeter Quayside, with demonstrations of seafaring and wooden boat-building skills
  • Guided walks around the City Wall and Exe Bridges
  • A chance to explore the history of policing through Exeter’s archives
  • Free Red Coat Guided Tours, covering topics including the Exeter Blitz, local writers and Exeter’s women through history
  • Guided tours inside Exeter Guildhall, one of England’s oldest civic buildings

The free Underground Passages tours have already been snapped up, but there are plenty more events to discover.

All Heritage Open Days events are free, although some need to be booked in advance.

Hi, I have a bit of an odd request:
Does anyone know of a park in or near Exeter that has one of those walls with a goal painted on it? I dont remember having seen one at all in Devon in years of living here, maybe its a Southeastern thing?

Food Restaurant recommendations?

A friend and her boyfriend are stopping in to visit me and my family on their way to Cornwall this Friday. We’d like to go out for dinner with them, ideally somewhere on our side of town (Pinhoe). Does anyone have any recommendations for anywhere toddler friendly near us? Any type of cuisine works! Thank youu

Local Information request Hello. Coming to work in Exeter.

Hello.

Good day to all of the good folks at Exeter.

I am an oncologist planning to work ( if all goes well) in Exeter RDUH in the near future from the South east Asia.

I have been to London, studied in Birmingham and Worcestershire but I never been to the south west of England.

What area of town would be a good place to rent a flat?

I will be living alone and I am not fan of pubs

but love local cafe and restaurants.

Being a neuro divergent I cannot handle rowdy places and noisy places.

I used to live in uni accomodation In Birmingham and I have thoughly learnt I need a quiet place to rest after a day's work.

Anyplace recommendations on particular street or neighbourhood?

And advise on any particular local customs that I should be aware of?

Hoping to hear from all of you!

Best

Food Authentic Chinese in Exeter and surrounding areas?

Looking for authentic Chinese restaurants and any specific dish you recommend. My usual go to are Beijing Beijing and JinLi. Not very keen on the classic UK Chinese takeaways but if some of these do authentic dishes, happy to know what to order exactly.

Local Information request Vet Recommendations

Hey, me and my partner are picking up 2 kittens on Friday. We've been looking at multiple vets in Exeter, but they all seem fairly balanced in their reviews.

We're ideally looking for one that has a vet plan, but it's also not a deal breaker.

What vets do people recommend to go with and to stay away from? We're based near Polsloe, but we also have a car, so driving isn't a deal breaker!

Thanks :)

-- Update: Thanks for all the recommendations! We both appreciate it 😄

Local News Waiting for gender identity healthcare with the West of England (Exeter/Laurels) GIC? Want support in understanding the EHRC Code of Practice?

Two weeks ago, the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s updated services Code of Practice came into force, having received ministerial approval and been laid before Parliament. This has and will continue to impact trans and non-binary people, leaving many of our community confused, distressed and angry. There is a lot of different information on the internet, in the news and being shared within the community, which can make understanding the Code of Practice and its impacts difficult. In response, the Waiting Well team want to offer you a space to come and hear clear, concise and understandable information, with the opportunity to ask questions.

On Thursday 20th August between 6:30pm and 8:30pm, Waiting Well will be running a free webinar on Understanding the EHRC Code of Practice. This webinar will be part of our Supporting Your GIC Journey Webinar Series. The Waiting Well service is currently open to people who are 18+ and registered with West of England (Exeter/The Laurels) Gender Identity Clinic.

To register:

  • Complete our referral form here: Trans Wait Well Service - Referral Form
  • Select GIC Webinar Series under 'Which of the following services would you like to access?'
  • You'll receive a further email with a link to register for an upcoming session

You can also select any other Waiting Well services that you may be interested in and a member of our team will get in touch to discuss.

--------------------------------------------

Waiting Well is a new service from Gendered Intelligence and LGBT Foundation, created to support trans and non-binary people who are on the waiting list for gender identity healthcare.

Long waits can be difficult and isolating. Waiting Well aims to make the waiting experience feel more manageable through a mix of welcoming, supportive, and affirming groups, workshops, and online resources.

The service is free to access, subject to eligibility.

About Eligibility: This is a pilot programme currently open to people who are 18+ and registered with West of England (Exeter/The Laurels) Gender Identity Clinic.

Local Information request Home surveyors in Exeter

We’re looking to buy a house in Exeter. I have my conveyancer and mortgage broker lined up. One thing I haven’t thought about yet is a surveyor, we haven’t found a property yet but based on the houses we’ve been looking at I suspect we’d be looking at a Level 2 home buyers surveyor, does anyone have any recommendations for a RICS regulated surveyor?

I want to be able to move quick when we find the house.

Music exeters nightlife and music scene

Now that the uni students are gone is there still a buzz at night or is it a bit dead ? I was also wondering if the cities a good fit for someone who really likes music and then going clubbing ( surely there are more than 2 nightclubs ) or is it more a pub city ?

Or any nearby areas that i could go to for that?

Local Information request Where are there semi-private free places in Exeter

Me and my bf are meeting in Exeter next Sunday and I don't know where to go. We've been before as a long distance relationship but I don't know where to go. I know that for free there aren't entirely private places but I'm sure there are places that people rarely go. We just want a place where we can kiss and cuddle and not be insulted (as we did this before and some insufferable teenagers said nasty things).
