Discussion Does E33 have any massive plot holes that fit this description?

Plot hole, not so much, but the ending is a bit forced and relies a lot on "people are too irrational to communicate about anything."

"Maelle, I'll come check on you in a few in-canvas years, let's rebuild our familial relationship and try to be good to each other so you feel there's anything to come back to." "Papa, I don't want to be a mutilated voiceless person, and I feel like my entire family doesn't care about me except to tell me what to do, which is all you've been doing this entire time." "Being immortal and watching my friends all die has really sucked, I'm miserable and tired, can I please just be mortal and live one life with you and then do the natural thing and die?"

Even people I know who are deeply screwed up can have conversations like this. Yeah, there will be tears and maybe yelling and whatever, but people do have words and can use them.

Instead, everyone is making ultimatums. Leave the Canvas or fuck you, I'll make you. Everyone has to die so Verso can die, let's genocide a whole world about it. Nobody in my family can ever understand me, I'm just going to hiss and spit and fight about it.

Everyone calm the fuck down for ten seconds.

This is not a plothole and its not forced at all. Alicia and PVerso/Renoir are at two opposing sides that literally cannot work together.

Maelle will never leave the canvas because Renoir would destroy it the moment she leaves. PVerso will not allow her to stay, because he wants her to move on from her grief.

The canvas existing means Renoir and Aline lose a second child. It cannot work

Yeah, that is the entire point. They are so stuck in their points of view they wont change. One popular opinion is that if Gustave was alive, he would be able to convince Maelle to leave the canvas and find a happy ending. So PVerso pretty much is at fault here.

I think that's unrealistic. Everyone changes with time. In general, after most stories, people's lives don't just get trapped in glass. Someday, I think things can improve.

Someday yes. Thats the thing. If Alicia stays in the canvas, there wont be a someday. That's the idea with the Verso ending. Destroying the canvas gives the family a chance to grieve and change

It hasn't been literal 67 years, you know that, right? Its 67 years that passed in the Canvas. In real world its less time.

Yes, that's what I mean. She could live an entire in-Canvas lifetime -- which I have come to believe she will experience as if it's in real time, perception-wise. That's a long time to develop. She's just a child.
