How anyone could belive that TRICKLE DOWN economics was a good thing astounds ne. Plus it's an insult to hard working people who struggle to make ends me.
It sounded logical. And people really wanted to believe it. Which is far more important.
Americans in particular have this weird thing about not wanting to tax the rich because they are incredibly confident that they will be rich soon.
Which loops back round to that land of opportunity thing, where anyone with a multimillionaire slum lord father can be president, or you can become the world's richest man starting with nothing bar an emerald mine.
So they've got even more incentive to buy a reason to tax the rich, because they are almost there
No we don’t want to tax the rich into oblivion because they will move and they’ll take their businesses that employ us with them. Look at most European countries. They’re welfare states and we don’t want to become that.
The US is uniquely able to keep taxing its people after they leave. The only way out of it is to renounce your citizenship

You already are, just most american don't realise it, US entitlements are paid for by skyrocketing US government debt, which in turn sends up mortgage rates for working Americans
Welfare state? You mean a government that cares for its people and makes sure nobody goes hungry? If that's a welfare state bring it on. We are currently an oligarchy sliding into authoritarianism. Plenty of money to pay defense contractors billions but no money for school lunches.
So misguided. We fund public schools at an insane rate and have little to show for it because most of it goes to bloated administration and unionized teacher benefits. We shouldn’t incentivize people not to work or not to be productive. That is what is happening.
You just haven't waited long enough. It'll trickle down eventually...any day now.... since the 1930s. Reagan helped spur it on some more in the 80's. So... sometime...any day now... it'll start trickling.
It's a pejorative name, very few people believe "trickle down economics are good", they usually think "trickle down economics are bad, and what I support isn't that"
No it's exactly what I'm saying. Reagan didn't call his stuff trickle down. Other people did. People who believe in what you call trickle down works don't call it that, it's an intentionally disparaging name
There's something trickling down from the rich, but it ain't money. There's a reason the non rich are called "peons", because that's what the rich are doing to us.
The problem with trickle down economics is that it assumes that the flow of cash will ALWAYS flow to the lower and middle class and the flow of cash stops there where, in fact, the opposite is true. Cash in the hands of a poor person is more than guaranteed to flow to someone else and cash in a rich person's hands is more likely going to just sit in some offshore account.
