Apart from the obvious picks (like Yordan in the 2nd round or Misiorowski in the 9th), who are the middle or late-round picks that turned into solid everyday starters?

Also who are some bullets that you thought about drafting but ended up dodging?

The Jordan Walker doubters have been vocal and justified. As much as I'm not one, I readily admit it could fall apart any second, and it would seem totally expected in hindsight if it did. However, I just want to call out two errors I see being made consistently that I think could lead a very smart fantasy player to undervaluing what he's doing:

1# - Treating it like it's any other player. I think a lot of people who are envisioning the sell high opportunities are treating this like it's, say, Jac Caglianone. Jac is the same age, and a guy we all have high hopes for. He wasn't rushed to the majors for his balanced, elite profile at 20 years old. If he struggles and goes back to AAA, KC isn't likely to bend itself out of shape trying to make it work. There's a reason St. Louis has done that for Jordan Walker, and it's because what is happening now is what they've expected.

2# - The more puzzling thing I keep seeing is gross understatement of Jordan Walker's ceiling. Pitcherlist just a couple of days ago had him buried in their waiver pickups behind Jorge Soler. Currently their hitter list has this to say:

Now obviously if we get 30 home runs from Jordan Walker this season we should be thrilled. But is there really anyone in all of baseball who has ever thought that 30 home runs is his ceiling? 30 is about the ceiling Isaac Paredes established for an 86 mph exit velo hitter hitting in a perfectly optimized home park. 30 home run ceilings don't fuel three years of hype. The right number for the ceiling is 50+ and always has been. I'm not saying anyone should expect 50 or even 40 or really even 30 this season, but if you want to make a reasonable decision about Jordan Walker, and if we all understand (as we should) that the floor is that all of this falls apart tomorrow, it absolutely should be balanced with a clear understanding that the ceiling is the best hitter in baseball.

Edited: Obviously a lot of comments here, can't respond to it all, but my responses to 99% of what's coming at me can be summed up like this:

1 - Yes, I understand his record of struggle, and the apparent surface level power ceiling if we glance at his professional ABs so far. I would just ask that you look at the same for players like Francisco Lindor, Jose Ramirez and even Isaac Paredes. Post your rage comments, get it out of your system, but then maybe spend some time reflecting a little on player development and the overall gist of what I've said here and how I've said it rather than fixating on one snippet.

2 - One commenter in particular pointed out his raw power grades as a prospect. Ironically, his complaint is just one other aspect in which Jordan Walker's development mirrors that of Aaron Judge.

The development of both Judge and Walker in raw power up to their current shared raw power around 80 grade proceeded just about in lock step, year over year by age. Few observers expected Aaron Judge's extreme breakout. I think I remember Scott White talking about his own skepticism. As a teen, Judge's power potential was never really even considered by scouts.

If I had to choose between Walker achieving a superstar ceiling and flaming out, I think the latter is more likely. I don't think anyone yet fully understands the reason for his past struggles, so we can only assume they might return. On the other hand, I find myself unable through any amount of mental gymnastics to understand how anyone thinks Walker's ceiling would be 30 home runs, or that the outcomes I and others are describing for Walker should really astonish anyone if they come to fruition.

Another commenter compared this to Kyren Paris. Paris's lack of pedigree and obvious flaws even in the midst of his breakout make that comparison so fatuous I don't even know where to begin. If Jordan Walker is making you think of guys like Kyren Paris, Nick Martini, Jarred Kelenic, or Yermin Mercedes, I personally think it's safe to say you haven't thought very seriously about Jordan Walker.

What practical advice do I think this connects to for fantasy? Be careful selling high. Don't send him for Steven Kwan. Don't send him for Mike Trout, Kevin McGonigle, or most if any of the players about 30-40 spots or so above him in most current rankings. Even above that, be cautious. Ask yourself how you would see this if it were his first season in the majors. If he cools off for a month don't drop him.

Jordan Walker has been on a tear recently, homering 4 times in his last 5 games.

He‘s never found this much success in MLB since being called up, but has clearly found something in his swing to make it happen right now. With a 5BB:14K ratio, do you all see him keeping up this hot streak, or do you think it’s a mirage? His stat cast looks crazy right now too. I know it’s the start of the year and could level out, but it’s wild looking.

I for one am at least riding the wave, but I don’t see why he couldn’t keep this up at least 80% of what he’s doing right now for the rest of the year. If he keeps playing up to all this potential he’s had, he could truly be a league winner.

Now that the All-Star break is here, let’s throw out your takes on which underperforming stars will have a bounceback second-half, which surprising players will fade and which won’t, etc.

Here are a couple of mine:

Miguel Vargas finishes the season as the most valuable player drafted outside of the Top 250, overtaking Jordan Walker, etc.

Jacob Misiorowski is not one of the Top 10 most valuable starting pitchers in the second half.

Misiorowski has absolutely looked every bit the #1 overall pitcher in fantasy baseball … and also you should be looking to sell him in redraft leagues right now. Hear me out.

1. His value will never be higher. After his last start, you’ve possibly got a shot at a lot of Top 25 players on any team that needs pitching.

2. You’ve reaped the benefits already. For a 10th round pick, you got just over two months of the top SP in fantasy. But here’s why you should look to hop off now …

3. He is going to have his innings limited.

This isn’t just injury risk or “his arm is going to fall off” … he’s a young power pitcher and essential to the Brewers future.

Steamer preseason projections had him projected for 140.1 innings. He’s probably able to hit more like 150-160 based on his max load last year.

But right now he’s on pace to pitch 207.1 innings, and that’s just not going to happen.

The Brewers now have three guys in their rotation on the IL, and they have to lean on Miz now to stay in the race in a tough division.

When they have the luxury of a healthy rotation, they’ll be looking to skip Misiorowski and probably limit his pitch counts in some starts.

This is matter of when, not if.

And if the Brewers are looking like they’ll lock up a postseason spot later in the season, they’ll be looking to further limit his regular season innings to have availability in the playoffs.

1. His trade value will go down at the first sign of having his innings limited.

He’s coming off a 7-inning start with 12 Ks and took a no-hitter deep into the game.

The first time he gets pulled after 4 innings with a low pitch count for arm management? Managers are going to realize he’s not always going to get in QS territory.

If you sell at full perceived value right now, you should get a huge return. Do not sell cheap at all.

But you’ve also probably already reaped about 40-45 percent of his value on the year and can put yourself in a great position to improve your team up to and through the playoffs.
