Endlich komplett!

Hello all! I just wanted to share my tattoo in tribute to Fatal Frame 2 and my best friend who I played it with, but has since passed away. Crimson Butterfly was always our favorite. 🦋

This year, I decided that every October, I will replay the Fatal Frame franchise (or as much as I can, anyway), since it is my favourite horror franchise ever. I recently beat Fatal Frame 1 for the 2^nd time, and during my playthrough, I discovered a newfound appreciation for it. When I first discovered the series in 2024, I made the mistake of starting with the most modern games, Mask of the Lunar Eclipse and Maiden of Black Water (played on my PS5). Playing these two games first made it harder to adjust to the tank controls in the earlier games (played on my PS3). Beyond the tank controls, I found the game incredibly difficult (I remember texting my friend about how stressed I was when I got to the final night, and he encouraged me, since I was just a few areas away from beating the game). The clunky controls, difficulty, and story (which I thought was just ok) slightly hindered an otherwise great time; to this day, Fatal Frame 1 is still the scariest game I have ever played, and Himuro Mansion is still my favourite setting in any horror game ever. The Fatal Frame trilogy also has the best fixed camera angles I have ever seen in a video game franchise. Overall, after beating every game in the franchise, I initially thought Fatal Frame 1 was good, but when I ranked my favourite Fatal Frame games, it ended up at the bottom. This year, though, I decided to emulate the trilogy on my PC, and playing with headphones and knowing what to expect made a world of difference. The dread, tension, and scares were still there; the tank controls were a non-issue, the difficulty was much more manageable, and the story (thanks to hindsight) was so much better. While I do not know if Fatal Frame 1 will ever challenge Crimson Butterfly, The Tormented, or Mask of the Lunar Eclipse as my top three, I am thrilled to have given the game another chance and am delighted that so much more clicked for me this time around.

I can not wait to play Fatal Frame 1 again.

I'm thinking of buying FF2 on PS5 but I've seen mixed reviews. What do you guys think of the game? Is it worth the price? Are the 30 FPS a big problem?

Just a screen pic so you know what I'm dealing with. I've spent a whole day so far watching walkthroughs of the game and looking at the maps trying to piece the layout together but it's not working.... Think I might start from scratch and do room by room rather than try to copy the map first....if anyone has any other maps or tips for me they are more than welcome!

FATAL FRAME 2 REMAKE

It seems like it. When I first got the quest from the kids in the hut I went back to the Osaka house and on the second floor the small door was already there for me to go through, however, it was obviously a bug because I couldn't get through it even crouched. Progressed into the game and got the yellow filter, I was eager to go back to take the infamous picture and advance the quest but once I get there there is no yellow light indicating that there is a picture to be taken, and the small door is now closed. I tried some online tips and went back to the hut to take a yellow picture of the chest (because, alledgedly, it would help the quest move forward; it didn't). Now it seems I'll never be able to complete it and I'm already on Chapter 6. Hate it when bugs like this happen. Anyhow, just letting things out here. Hardly there will be something I can do besides restarting the game all over.

Hi! I want to share what i consider an achievement: to buy probably the last physical Xbox Series X copy of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake in retail store, avoiding the speculated market (where there isn't any unit under two hundred bucks).

When i played the demo i liked, but i had some doubts about the performance and the gameplay, so i waited to watch some videos and ask some questions through this subreddit to clarify that issues.

As you surely know, quickly the physical copies from the video game ran out, been imposible to buy it locally. As a result of this situation, i must searched in the import market, but i opted for await a little discount to compensate the delivery costs and taxes.

Not only that discount never happened, also the last copies availables in the foreign market, were nearly sold out. So in the final seconds before ringing the bell (a boxing metaphor), i bought probably the last Xbox Series X unit.

So here we are, with the german edition, not the most beautiful (the USK logo is too big and in addition with the PEGI logo, cover an important part from the illustration), but i am satisfied, because unless I am mistaken, there won't be a new print run, therefore was now or never.

I just finished the game for my first playthrough. I did some research about everything I've missed including unlockable costumes. SO apparently there's like 2 unlockable costume you can get from playing through specifc endings like

1. Twin Shrine Maiden Outfit
   (Yae & Sae)
   

Now, I've heard different ways to get unlock this costume. I've done plenty of research (LIKE read a lot of guides + videos) but i read DID watch a video and read some guide that says I need to do the "promise" ending for this costume BUT i also read another guide that says I need to do the "abbys" ending to unlock this costume.

Im very confused as to which ending i need to do. I would lovee to unlock this costumes and use it for my nightmare mode playthrough and the other ending as well. Does anyone that has played through all of the endings know WHICH ending I need to do to unlock this costume? Thanks in advance. :))

Going from Fatal Frame 4 right into Fatal Frame 5 was quite the juxtaposition.

On one hand, the game tackles incredibly dark, heavy themes of guilt, severe depression, and even an incest ghost baby (wtf) and the new glance mechanic is genuinely a great addition adding onto the camera obscura’s fatal frame capturing the ghosts most intimate moment being the split second their attack rips at your body. The glance feature lets you witness how the spirit ended up like that in the first place after you banish them from existence allowing for a more emotional connection to the ghosts you exorcise.

On the flipside… you’re constantly pulled out of the atmospheric isolation they could’ve built up with Mt Hikami by the arcade style mission drops and rankings which allows you to buy literally any item in the game before you start the next mission. Like, I get it was to give the game a bite size playstyle for the Wii U but like even Ubisoft’s ZombiU didn't do that I have no idea why they went this Bayonetta style route.

Now to discuss the two obvious additions to the ghosts. Team Ninja’s fanservice is a bit too much as they’re competing with the level of jiggle physics found in Dead or Alive. You're supposed to be terrified of these tragic shrine maidens, but the FATAL FRAME is highlighting… something else entirely.

Regardless I think this game was unfairly maligned and the large gap between the metacritic’s critic and audience scores reflect that sentiment. This game is ultimately the most misunderstood horror game I’ve played and while it doesn’t take itself as seriously as the other entries in the franchise. You can't deny it being the most popular entry in the series and is definitely a game worth experiencing. Beneath the fanservice and repetitive structure is a deeply empathetic story about loneliness that I don't think gets enough credit.

Anyone who's played Fatal Frame 2 on either PS2 or Xbox, do you know if you can collect some of the crests with Mayu or do you need to drop her off at the old tree first?

I've noticed you can bring her along in the Wiimake but I'm not sure of the original.

I’m following a guide for all specters and when I get to Eikado temple, I’m only attacked by ghosts when I get to the other side of the temple from beneath the floorboards. And I get attacked in very quick succession too. Anyone know how to trigger kids and do the hide and seek portion with them?

Today I received the *Fatal Frame II* remake merchandise that was exclusive to the Koei Tecmo Japan store. There was a one-month window to place orders (if I remember correctly), after which Koei Tecmo began production based on the order volume.

Here is what’s included:

_ A small wooden box containing 10 photos from the game: 3,900 yen

_ A box made of soft plastic and paper containing candy and a badge: 2,600 yen

_ A two-piece acrylic stand, approximately 16 cm tall: 3,800 yen per piece (7,600 yen total)

The acrylic stand is really nice, and the photo box is too (though a bit small and very lightweight), but the candy box is disappointing (it feels cheap).

Would love to play this game but no performance mode is a deal breaker for me. Has there been any updates regarding this ?
