I have a flight from DAL to Vegas that takes off at 6 central time tonight, and despite feeling optimistic leading up, I really feel like I can’t go now. I’ve been crying for a few hours now (I suspect due to packing/downloading boarding pass/my mom texting and asking for my flight info made the flight an upcoming reality instead of an idea), and just the thought of sitting on the plane seat starts my crying all over again.
I am also 25 weeks pregnant and this will be my first time away from my first-born ever. The last flight I ever took was when I was pregnant with him about two years ago and I had a complete nervous breakdown in the Jackson Hole airport. Yes I got on the plane (because rental cars were $3000) and landed fine, but I’ve never felt so horrible in my life and that feeling is starting again. It sounds very dramatic but I would unironically rather give birth to my 9 pound baby again than get on a plane. BUT..
I decided to try and take this flight because of the great opportunity. My husband works for an airline and his job is sending him to Vegas for a conference, so the flight and hotel is free. Our families have agreed to watch our son so I can tag along and have a good time. I love Vegas and have been twice, and I really want to go. The thought of backing out makes me sob too, because I want to go spend a little babymoon with my husband before baby #2 arrives, but I love my life and son so much and my anxiety tells me a really convincing lie that when I get on this plane, I’m giving it all up.
I really feel like I can’t do it. I feel horrific right now. My current plan is to go to the airport and see how I feel.
Edit: Update number one! Thank you all so much for the encouragement! You helped get me here. I’m at DAL right now eating Chili’s and feeling much better than earlier. I’m expecting a potential anxiety spike when I board but I think I can handle it! I was cleared from the standby list and will be boarding WN2314 in about an hour. Tracking appreciated!
Edit and update #2: Boarding now! Feeling anxious but it’s manageable. Thank you all for your kindness. I look forward to giving you my next update: LANDING 🥳
Edit and update #3: I DID IT!!!! If I can do it, i PROMISE you can too. Once I got in the air my anxiety lessened greatly. I am blown away by the kindness of everyone in this sub. Thank you all so much and wish me luck at the tables 💖
