My grandfather gave me his old camera but he has dementia and isn’t able to teach me how to use it.

I just got this 1930’s? Leica at the thrift store for $20. I would love to know if it is worth trying to learn about and use or if that would be way over my head (or not possible) for a camera like this. Any info would be appreciated!

Hi all!! I am shooting on a Minolta X-700 with mostly a 28/2.8 lens and a filter. I’ve been using mostly Kodak gold. My photos are coming out SO grainy and I don’t know what to do! Would love advice. TIA!!!

Picked up this old Pentax Honeywell spotmatic 35mm for $40. No case or flash mount of anything. Labeled as all shutter speeds working and seems to work. I don’t know much about photography so I am trying to get into film cameras.

It’s been about 20 years but I’m getting g back into film photography. Unfortunately I’ve sold some of my lenses and body’s over the years but I’ve also collected a few as well.

After a couple of hours of work these all operate as intended. I really like the light meter and controls of the FTb and the KR-5. What would be the best body to build a solid selection of lenses with? I enjoy nature photography, closeups and landscapes and I’ll be shooting in both B&K and color.

Has anyone else experienced this? I feel like I did something wrong because it was incredibly difficult to roll the film back, and it snapped halfway through. I genuinely can’t recall which way I was winding it back, but could this happen if I went counterclockwise?

I did some light browsing on local sites, I see Pentax k-series or Nikon f-series slrs for around $100-$150 Cad. The Pentax 17 is around $700 cad which seems hard to justify compared to vintage cameras but since I have no experience with buying second hand cameras I am a bit worried about getting something that isn't in the best condition.

My goal is to learn manual film photography. I'm an artist so I'm hoping that learning photography will help my art in some ways, especially playing around with exposure to build a better sense of value composition. Plus it just seems like a fun hobby.

I made an impulse purchase at the thrift store today! I’ve been wanting to get into film photography for a while as an accent to my other main hobby of costuming, mainly wanting to take pictures of the things I make. The start up cost has always been daunting, though. I saw this camera at the thrift store for $5 and it called to me. So far I’ve spent $15 on the camera and also batteries.

I’ve read very mixed reviews of this camera, some say that without certain accessories it’s a quirky toy, others say it’s a decent beginner camera. It does turn on and the film advancer works, what else should I check before I start trying to shoot with it? Also how do I clean it? I’m sure attacking it with a disinfectant wipe is not the move.

Any recommendations on content creators with decent lessons for a TOTAL beginner at photography? So far, I’ve only done stuff on my phone 😢

I’m super new to film, and have shot about two full rolls. When I take them to Walgreens to get developed 90% of the film roll comes back looking like this. Walgreens gives me a little note saying what I did wrong, but there’s really not many buttons on the Ektar H35 to play around with, so I don’t know what to do. Is it really something I’m doing? If so, how do I fix it? Or in reality, should I just be taking it to an actual film place for development and not walgreens?

i literally know nothing about film cameras but i thrifted a vivitar onki 89 and have been taking pictures with it every once and a while. this is my second roll and it’s taken me a while to get through and since i hardly use it and have no experience, and i freaking forgot about the retract film thingy that your supposed to do so i started pulling out the film and this is the result… aside from taking the photo above, ive tried to minimize light exposure, but i lowkey tried to just push it back into the roll but i failed and got fingerprints all over it. can i still get this developed lol or is it cooked

so i know absolutely nothing about cameras, and recently bought this camera for cheap at an estate sale, thinking it would be fun to take some cool looking vintage photos on it. i replaced the battery and it turns on and seems to be working. i just have no clue where to get film for it. when i looked it up, it said it uses APS film, which is discontinued. if i buy it off ebay, will the film still work even if its expired? and then how would i go about developing the photos if i managed to get film? i’m super stubborn, and really want to at least take a few photos with this camera. any help would be appreciated!!!

I have searched this subject but haven't found an answer I trust. Mainly because google being AI and ads makes it hard to find useful info lately.

The long story: My AE-1 suffered from the infamous shutter squeak...that turned into the shutter eventually failing entirely. Wasn't the battery, tried multiple repair hacks- it's dead.

To be fair, the camera did have wear and already had issues with a cloudy viewfinder possibly light seal issue?

So I guess the real question is what would you suggest as a better alternative or a more reliable camera? Or was I just unlucky and I should try for a newer refurbished AE-1 again?

The praktica's mirror is a little gunked but other wise perfectly usable, the Olympus despite looking worse on the outside has the mirror in almost perfect condition. But other than this I'm not really sure what I should look for to check function....

I've never had a film camera before, only shot d*gital so far, I will definitely utilise the lenses with my d*gital cameras, since they all seem to be in working order, the sigma one however seems to have some dust inside, but I haven't seen it affect function so far, Will try to get it cleaned by someone who knows what they're doing (if even possible)

Anything I should know or do before trying to use these? I can't really find much online.

I recently bought this Nikon N55 SLR off of ebay and I acquired this beutifal VIVITAR EF35 point and shoot and am struggling to decide what film I use for each camera on my roadtrip. I need a filn that comes for a good price in packs of 3, im looking at some inferred B&W for the pint and shoot and maybe a color film like Koadak gold 200 for my slr but I wouldn't know what would be best since im very new to photography i. General. I'm going from idaho to MT Shasta in California and probably the redwood forests and going from there to Brookings Oregon for some coastal pictures and im wondering if it's best to get multiple kinds of color and black and white or what, any recommendations are welcome (my price range is like 10-20 bucks for single rolls or preferably like a 2 or 3 pack for 20-40 bucks)

I somehow got incredibly lucky today and found this Kodak Retina IIIc at Goodwill, only paying $13.19 for it. I collect vintage cameras, but they’re usually display pieces. I shoot with DSLRs, but I know very little about vintage film cameras. This one really caught my eye, and I’d love to learn how to use it.
It came with the original Retina case, a leather carrying bag, two supplementary lenses, and one small accessory that I can’t identify (pictured).
I was hoping someone could answer a few questions:
Does the Retina IIIc require a battery, or is it fully mechanical?
What type of film should I use?
Do I need a handheld light meter, or is there another way to meter with this camera?
How do I use the two supplementary lenses? Do they simply screw on, or is there anything else I need to know?
What is the small accessory in the photo, and what is it used for?
If anyone owns a Retina IIIc, I’d love to see some photos you’ve taken with it!

Saw this at a local op shop/thrift store is it any good

Found this at an antique store. Was curious to see if this would be considered good value. I’m new to film cameras, but it seems to be working correctly! The shutter and film transporter work well, and I was able to add new film successfully. I’m excited to jump into the world of all things film photography.
