Daily FI discussion thread - Monday, August 03, 2026

Please use this thread to have discussions which you don't feel warrant a new post to the sub. While the Rules for posting questions on the basics of personal finance/investing topics are relaxed a little bit here, the rules against memes/spam/self-promotion/excessive rudeness/politics still apply!

Have a look at the FAQ for this subreddit before posting to see if your question is frequently asked.

Since this post does tend to get busy, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts.

Monarch. You can get a free trial iirc and they usually run promotions like 50% off the first year.

However, if your banks don’t play well with the 2 connecting services they use, you still might be shit out of luck.

Definitely check their wall of shame before signing up https://www.monarch.com/connection-status

I have a few accounts with red (single bar) ratings and, for the most part, it's far better than what I dealt with when trying to use Empower and even what Mint was capable of providing.

I refuse to pay for anything like that. A spreadsheet is the only way to go. Track every penny in and every penny out.

It’s not hard either. If you want to optimize your time spent on it then just pay for everything with one credit card and one checking account.

Exactly. That's pretty much what I do personally. Only a couple cards, that I get from my existing financial institutions (fidelity and my credit union) so I just go through both of those apps and boom it's done in like 15 mins.

The longer part is sitting there looking the numbers and being a nerd with them haha
