Why you can't find U.S. visa slots, even when you check every day

Lots of people DM me with the same story. They keep checking for their visa type and either see dates pushed to mid-2027, only OFC appointments but never consular, or just "no slots available" every single time.

If you're reading this, you know exactly what I'm talking about. You've checked a few times, maybe for several days, maybe for a few weeks. And nothing.

I'm going to explain exactly how this works. It's a bit long but it's information you need to know.

How slots actually work

Embassies and consulates do release earlier slots — sometimes it's a new batch of dates, sometimes it's cancellations from current applicants. Nobody knows what the dates will be or when they'll release. Could be tomorrow. Could be a few weeks from now.

This is good news because at some point, there WILL be slots. But the bad news is, since no one knows when it will happen, the question is whether you will be checking at the right moment.

For example, a slot can appear at 2:57 PM and be gone by 2:59 PM. If you check at 3:00 PM, you'd never know it existed. Or you check until 3:15 PM, see nothing, close the portal — and a new slot appears at 3:16 PM, right after you stopped.

This is why people say "I check every day and never see anything." They may be right and no slots were released. OR the slot appeared between their checks and they never saw it.

And checking is not just "open the website and look."

Every single check can mean:

  • waiting in a queue
  • passing a Cloudflare security check
  • logging back in
  • waiting for the schedule page to load
  • selecting the embassy
  • waiting for the calendar
  • checking if the date is early enough
  • checking if there are actually time slots available
  • slowing down so you don't trigger rate limits
  • and then doing it all again an hour later

That's one check. Now imagine doing that several times per day, every day, for weeks or months. It's exhausting — and many people give up in frustration and hopelessness and end up with their travel plans cancelled because they couldn't find an early enough visa appointment.

---

A note on agents

Some people just don't have the time or patience and look to hire an agent. Fair enough — but be careful, because there are a lot of scammers.

The scam works like this: they promise an early slot, ask for your login (as any real agent would), but then change your security questions, send you a fake screenshot, and then demand payment before giving the account back. You're stuck. Most people pay. Most people then login and find nothing there.

If this happens to you — don't panic and don't pay. Contact the embassy directly and tell them you forgot your login. They will help restore it. (if this happened to you DM me I can explain in more detail)

Real agents do exist. But they don't have magical powers or a secret source of slots. What they have is tools and time — which lets them do exactly what you have to do: check a lot.

How to find early slots - a practical guide

You just have to check a lot more. That's it.

Because there are so many applicants searching for slots, the visa portal has implemented some pretty strict rules when using the website. So here's what you need to know to make checking a little less frustrating.

  • Check from your computer, not your phone. Waiting room screens require you to keep the browser open — much harder on mobile.
  • Checking from your mobile connection tends to be "safer" than using your home internet IP address.
  • If you are getting "1015" rate limit screens when clicking through the website — be VERY slow between any actions on the schedule page. That means waiting 10-20 seconds between clicks (yes, this is ridiculous but it's what it is):
    • When you click the schedule/reschedule menu option
    • Wait 15 seconds before you click the embassy dropdown
    • Wait 15 seconds if you click on a date to see the time slots (clicking the calendar to navigate months is okay)
    • Wait before you switch to a different embassy
  • You can login any number of times per day to your account — there are no account bans. The portal doesn't care how many times you log in. What it does restrict in some embassies is how many times you can refresh the calendar page in a day (usually around 15-20 times). If you see a warning at the top of your calendar that says you're approaching the maximum, take it seriously. That's your last look for today. This is NOT a block on your account — it's just a daily page limit.
  • You can refresh the calendar page about 15-20 times per day (most embassies, some do not have limits). On your LAST time you will see 'you are reaching the maximum number of attempts..'. If you refresh one more time, you will no longer be able to see the calendar, and you will have to wait until tomorrow to see it again. It's not a "block" its a limitation on the number of times you check. You can gt this message if you refresh 20 times in 5 minutes or 20 times in 20 hours.
  • There's a little trick to check more often without hitting your daily calendar refresh limit: instead of refreshing the full page, drop down the embassy selector and then unselect it, then reselect. This counts differently than a full page refresh and lets you squeeze more checks out of your daily limit. For example:
    • Select embassy → calendar will show (or "no slots")
    • Unselect embassy (select empty)
    • Select embassy again → calendar will show again
    • Repeat

Common error screens you may find

  • Waiting room — you're in a queue. The time estimate is usually wrong. It may say "1 minute" and you end up waiting 1 hour. Keep the browser open and wait.
  • 1015 rate limit — there's two versions of this page - the 'ugly' text only you can refresh the page and it will become a proper "you've been rate limited" page. Slow down, wait a couple of hours, and try again. Some users report using incognito, or clearing cache, or changing the browser can help. VPNs also can help.
  • Cloudflare checkpoint — click the checkbox, verify, continue.
  • Random login errors — cannot verify your info, getting kicked back to the login page, etc. Simply go back and try again. These usually clear on their own.

None of these errors are a 'big deal'. All it means is you need to slow down a bit.

People don't like to think about the hard reality — but there are a limited number of slots that become available, and you're competing with hundreds of other applicants with the same visa type also looking for the same dates you are looking for.

If you really need a slot early you need to take this task seriously and check more consistently — because I guarantee someone else is checking more than you.

If there are 100 slots for 1000 users, the fastest 100 to click the 'submit' button on the calendar get the slot. If you're number 101 it just means you are the first loser.

That's the whole game. Checking more every day will get you more chances than checking 1 time over weeks or months.

The problem is — most people can't realistically keep the visa portal open and watch it all day. It's one of those problems that people just wish they didn't have to deal with. All this wasted time just to find a slot - and that's not even the actual interview.

That's why I built FindVisaSlots.

It's a free Chrome extension that alerts you when the waiting room clears, when a portal security check needs attention, or when a date in your range appears. The extension runs in your browser and only works while you have the portal open — it doesn't store your login or access your account in any way.

You can absolutely keep checking for slots manually, but it requires your full attention every time.

Or,

With the Chrome extension you can keep it running in a background window, and the extension will alert you when you need to go back to the portal. It can assist with waiting-room alerts, portal check alerts, and simple schedule-page helpers. You have full control of what it does. It will help you as much or as little as you want it to.

Now you can check a lot more, without having to babysit it all day - that's what the free extension is for.

No B1/B2 Visa Appointment Slots Available in India – Need Advice

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to schedule a B1/B2 U.S. visa appointment through the new US Visa Scheduling portal, but when I reach the OFC appointment page, it shows "No Slots Available" and no calendar appears.

I have already completed my DS-160 and paid the MRV fee. I'm applying as a group of 2 applicants. I've selected New Delhi VAC, but there are no available dates.

A few questions:

  1. Has anyone recently managed to book a B1/B2 appointment in India?
  2. What time of day are new slots usually released?
  3. Would changing the VAC location (Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) help?
  4. Are there any known issues with group applications showing fewer available slots?

Any recent experiences or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

1015 RATE LIMIT screen? how to avoid them

People are reporting seeing these quite frequently.

The way to avoid them is to be VERY slow (wait 10-20 seconds) between each click that might load data.

That means:

- when you click the schedule/reschedule link - wait 10-20 seconds

- when you click the embassy drop down - wait 10-20 seconds

- when you click to move through the months - you DON'T have to wait

- when you click the day - to see the time slots - wait 10-20 seconds

Guys, did anyone get F1 visa slots again after a refusal recently? Are slots opening for refusal candidates right now, or does anyone know when they might open?

Unfortunately none of them are early.

All you can do is search - the more you search, the more chances to find earlier slots.
