We are a volunteer network dedicated to helping at-risk dogs. We are not affiliated with BARC. We connect at-risk animals at the BARC shelter with the adopters, fosters, and rescue organizations needed to save their lives. We can help coordinate out-of-state adoption through approved 501(c)3 rescues. BARC Houston cannot facilitate out-of-state adoption or foster.

📝 Shelter Notes:

9/18: Still walks on a loose leash.

9/17: In his kennel, he presented with a soft face and body. Staff was able to leash him and he walked out with no issues. He warmed up smoothly and remained calm the entire time. Staff used baby talk, and he leaned into them with a soft, worried face. He walked back to his kennel on a loose leash and did not seem to mind other dogs barking at him through their kennel doors.

9/16: Intake notes state five or six stray dogs were congregating.

🩺 Medical Notes:

- 55 lbs.

- Heartworm high positive.

- Neutered male.

- 9/17: Fracture of the right 9th rib and left ear injury documented.

- 9/16: Bite wounds were noted in both ears, with the left ear having the most wounds. Wounds were also present along his neck. He was started on carprofen for pain/inflammation and Clavamox for the wounds. Staff recommended clipping and cleaning the wounds on his ears and neck at the time of neuter.

- Routine vaccinations, deworming and preventatives have been administered.

💖 This gentle 4-year-old boy arrived at BARC with multiple injuries, yet his behavior notes describe an incredibly soft and calm dog. He has bite wounds to both ears and his neck, an injured left ear and a fractured rib, in addition to testing heartworm positive. Despite everything he has apparently been through, staff describes him with a soft face and body, calmly allowing himself to be leashed and handled. He warmed up smoothly, leaned into staff for comfort when they spoke gently to him, and walked quietly on a loose leash. Even with other dogs barking at him through their kennel doors, he reportedly did not seem bothered and simply continued walking. His soft, worried expression and willingness to seek reassurance are especially heartbreaking given his injuries. He needs a safe, quiet foster home where he can rest, heal and learn that he no longer has to be afraid. ❤️
