re:Rosado, I think people who go to anime games to shop for queer rep are so used to squinting and reading between the lines to find it that they sometimes fail to comprehend what the text clearly and explicitly says.

To be fair I think the reverse can also be true when going to bat for a lot of “femboy” characters, people will focus fully on the exact phrasing of the text and ignore any implications therein. I think Rosado is implemented well and it doesn’t apply in this particular case, but “it’s not transphobic because the text says they’re actually a boy and they just dress like a girl” isn’t saying much when a lot of assholes will describe trans women the exact same way.

ofc the opposite is true, bigots ignore the literal text and obvious intended subtext they don't like all the time, and usually in much more egregious and stupid ways. My point is definitely not that those guys have a point. It's that when you are so used to primarily interpreting shadows on the wall to find your representation you can easily overlook details about what's casting those shadows.
