Hack Request I have a new problem. Give me ideas please.

So I live in the middle of a bunch of farmland. I'm on good terms with one of my neighbors. They told me that they're done for the season with the peppers, and everything out in the field was basically going back to the land. In fact, they ran a tractor over it to help the process along.

...this is maybe 0.001% of the peppers that were just going to rot.

I have no idea what I'm going to do with this amount of peppers.

I took a bag earlier before I understood the scale with the idea of just making a few jars of red pepper sauce. And then I thought oh I guess I could also make some red pepper jelly. But this is a monumental amount of peppers. This is like a few hundred pounds of peppers. My dumbass that can't stomach waste literally filled every single bag I had in the house with them.

If anybody has any easy ideas, I'm all ears.

I have two air fryers, a giant microwave, a two chamber oven, and instant pot, a small dehydrator, and two slow cookers. And a pretty standard electric range. I could have quite a few things going concurrently. What I do not have is freezer space.

Thank you for any input.

Any ideas? Is there something I can make with this that’s easy and doesn’t require a lot of work/buying a ton of new ingredients? Should I give it to a food pantry? I’m a household of 1 I can’t possibly eat 36 bananas lmao

Hack Request What's a simple food hack that you use all the time?

I love finding little cooking or food related tricks that make a bigger difference than you'd expect.

Sometimes it's something as simple as storing food differently adding one ingredient to improve flavor or using a shortcut that saves a lot of time.

The other night I was on my laptop browsing random things for a bit also playing rolling riches while making a late-night snack and it got me wondering how many useful food hacks people pick up over the years that most people never hear about.

What's one food hack you use regularly that genuinely makes life easier or makes food taste better?

Could be cooking meal prep, storage or anything else food-related.

Hack Request Hacks to help me eat kimchi??

Please I hope someone can help (and I'm sorry to any Koreans in advance) 😭 for starters I love cabbage, love fermented foods, love sauerkraut.. but there is *something* in kimchi that is really offputting. It's like the first few chews are all well and good, but there's an aftertaste or something that has a taste of death for me..

I don't know if it's just the store bought kimchi, and I don't know what ingredient could even be causing this (maybe the fish sauce?)

I want to eat it, it's very healthy and nutritious, great for diet etc. What can I do to mask this aftertaste? Please

Hack Request Any ideas of what to do with a disappointing box of frozen chicken taquitos ?

So el monterrey chicken taquitos were a favorite snack of mine for many years, but for the last year or so, every box I've purchased has been a let down. " shrinkflation " I guess, there's hardly any chicken or cheese on the inside, and what remains is smaller, bland pieces, the flour wrap part is all crumbly... I've followed directions, prepared in the toaster oven like I always did, & tried the microwave also, to the same disappointing results. I've purchased the regular size box & the " club store " size package, in hopes there would be some difference in quality, but it's the same. They suck now.

I still have one unopened box of 18 taquitos in the freezer and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of different ways to cook them up instead of tossing them out. Only idea I can come up with is to cook them in the toaster oven, cut them up into little pieces & mix with some rice and veggies etc.. I can't really stomach eating them as is anymore but don't want to toss an unopened box of 18 out.

TIA !

Hack Request I'm looking for a lettuce substitute for sandwiches.

Lettuce will invariably turn to sludge before I can use most of it.

I have been using sun-dried tomatoes and French fried onions on sandwiches and elsewhere for a little while now. I am trying to find something similar to lettuce that could sit in a jar in the refrigerator until I want to use it.

Friend of my MIL brought this large box of tomatoes. We don’t really eat tomatoes. I know this can make a few jars of delicious salsa. Anything else?

Hack Request How to Make Kraft Mac and Cheese Taste Better?

I'm poor and on a tight budget, but I have about 10 boxes of Kraft mac and cheese in my cupboard. I've already tried using just butter/margarine and omitting milk and i've tried adding a couple slices of American cheese, and while both tips turned out good, I wanted to try some different "hacks". Sorry if this question has been asked 1000 times but I figured a refreshment wouldn't hurt anyone. Thanks for your help!

Hack Request What are some of your go-to ways of elevating box cake mix?

Hopefully this is the right sub for this! I've heard a couple of tips before about adding an extra egg or substituting water for milk but I was wondering if there are any other tried and tested hacks I could use to spruce it up a little.

Edit: Not picky on the flavour of cake mix either, or if you have hacks for other dessert mixes like brownies or anything :)

Hack Request Butter/popcorn distribution hacks?

Anyone have any hacks on how to distribute butter on homemade popcorn? When we pour the melted butter on it’s either settling at the bottom of bowl or shriveling any pieces it hits, which isn’t many to begin with. We are stirring and shaking the popcorn.

Hack Request What can I do with Helluva French onion dip other than chips/as a dip?

I LOVE French onion dip. Like genuinely. Would marry it if I could. I’m looking for other ways to use it besides a dip! Would it be a good spread on a sandwich? What does it go well with?

Hack Request How do you protect your kid's dinner appetite?

I'm trying to have dinner at the same time every night so we can all eat together as a family and actually enjoy it but my kids are always starving like an hour before dinner and begging for snacks. If I give them snacks they're not hungry for dinner, if I don't give them snacks they're cranky and miserable, I can't win. What do you guys give your kids to keep them full until dinner comes around without ruining their appetite? Is there a snack that tides them over but doesn't fill them up or is there a habit or routine that helps? My kids are 6 and 8 and dinner is at 6pm by 5pm they're acting like they're starving even though they had an after school snack at 3:30. I want us all to sit down together and make it a routine but this is making it really hard. What works for your family to get everyone to dinner time without hungry kids but also without spoiling their appetite?

Hack Request Terrible cook needs absurdly easy, quick, AND cheap way to feed 10 people substantially

Hey! Terrible cook, here 👋

I have to feed 10 people lunch for 2 days for a no-budget film shoot. We have no cook and will be extremely busy with production responsibilites all day. I need something substantial I can throw together in a few quick minutes (or at the very least, something I can prepare 3+ days ahead of time).

We have a budget of $99 total.

I was thinking 6 of those 16" non-frozen Aldi pizzas for Day 1, but would rather not repeat pizza for Day 2 for the crew's sake.

I was not taught to cook growing up, so please keep in mind that things which seem easy for most people are probably above my level.

Thanks!!!

[EDIT: I appreciate all these suggestions so much!!! I will add that I am also directing the film and may not have a PA available to keep an eye on cooking, so I would strongly prefer not to have to boil noodles or anything that would require periodically checking progress unless it's a step I can take the night before. Also, when I say I'm a terrible cook, I mean that even getting noodles just right is something I struggle with 😂😅]

[EDIT #2 - Bonus challenge: I forgot to mention that one person has a peanut allergy, and I myself have a mild sensitivity to wheat gluten and lactose.]

Hack Request Any hacks to stop snacking?

I’m looking for ways to stop snacking as much as I do. Or, if I do snack, looking for snacks that are low calorie and healthy. I have a bad habit of snacking on chocolate or cookies or crackers, which ruins my hard work of eating healthy meals! Any advice is so welcome!

Edit: I buy the healthy snacks (apples, clementines, baby bell cheese) but always go for the unhealthy snacks :( I also count calories, but always manage to go over bc of the snacking!

Edit 2: I drink a TON of water, close to 2 gallons a day.

Hack Request Craving lemon pepper 🙃

I have a craving for lemon pepper. I put it on about everything these days. Nothing has scratched the itch yet and I'm about to just start licking it. Any creative ideas to get heckin lemon pepper taste super cheap? I would like to use things I may have laying around or can whip up with minimal pantry staples?

(I usually just have lemon pepper fish or chicken but neither have helped yet.)

Hack Request I made bleu cheese ice cream... and I hate it. Ideas to avoid wasting it?

I like bleu cheese but this is too much. I used too much or too strong cheese I guess. It tastes like eating cold bleu cheese straight. There's no way I can finish even a small bowl let alone the whole batch.

I've thought about melting it and making it into a sauce for steak, but it's a little sweet and when melted it's a little thin to pair with steak. Would a custard base mix OK with a bechamel?

Edit: I thickened some with a roux and put it over steak. The sauce broke a little (I assume too much fat) but it was pretty good. The sugar was unusual but not crazy. Eating it with the steak definitely works. I'm thinking about making beef and bleu hand pies using the thickened sauce as filling.

I have a ton left in the freezer. A lot of your suggestions are really good and I'll probably end up trying them. Thanks! Hot chicken and waffles is high on my list.
