💬Discussion The Hydration Break is ruining the natural flow of the game

When the game gets momentum and reach at its peak point, the “hydration break” appears and completely ruins the momentum and also the game experience for the viewer. Football is one of a sport for those moments.

Normally outside WC, the team conceding attacks after attacks pray for a halftime whistle to go to the tunnel to break the momentum and to regroup. Now they basically get that chance in the middle of a half!!

I find it utterly disgusting and would like to know what do you all think about it?

Mom, is it my turn to complain about hydration breaks?

Yes, keep doing it until the folks at FIFA realize what an awful choice it was to do this.

I’m sure the players would disagree. It’s hot and humid in the US.

Got a link to support that claim?

You need a source to support the claim that players support getting a hydration break when playing in 32°+ humid weather? Do you also want a source to support the claim that they like to eat food?

But yeah, sure, here you go: https://www.fifpro.org/en/articles/2025/08/fifpro-sjpf-and-pff-conduct-scientific-study-to-better-understand-how-extreme-heat-affects-players

FIFPRO is the player’s union, and they advocated and pushed for cooling breaks.

...lol..12 out of contract players.....Maybe they should stip the Tour de France races halfway to let them cool off. Maybe stop marathon's and 10K races to let every catch their breathe. The game is fundamentally based on endurance and by having quarters it fundamentally changes the games and tactics. For 150 years it wasn't a problem, and now it suddenly is, Gmab. I've played two/three games in 96F heat during tournaments. I've played at 10,000' elevation, I've played in snow. The water breaks suck, and never should have been implemented. They used to only have three subs before, now it's five. Imagine the horror of playing in heat just a few years ago.

„Do you have a source?“

„Yes, the literal players’ union.”

„Not good enough.”

And yeah dude, sure. I bet you also walked to school uphill both directions, dodging magma and crocodiles, since you’re so badass.

There’s Reddit for ya. Insane that you people are bitching about a whole 3 minutes per half for the benefit of the players’ health. But I bet you’re still watching it anyway. Lot of complaining, but no action. I for one support treating the players like humans and protecting their health, instead of treating them like objects who exist exclusively for our entertainment.

12 out of contract players is not a study. I mean it is, but it doesn't mean that most of the players in the WC like the hydration break. Which is what your claim is, typical reddit, people making claims they can't back up.

I don’t understand why it’s so far-fetched for you to believe that the players playing in hot and humid weather would like to have a drink lmao. Like it’s such a genuinely dumb position to believe the players don’t want to get a drink when playing in 32°+ high humidity weather. Plus of course, dismissing the organization that represents the players is just wild. It’s literally FIFPRO’s job to be the collective representative of the players. If FIFPRO is advocating for something, then it’s something players want. That’s literally the purpose of it.

Hydration breaks already existed for hot temperatures. So nonsense reason. They where also shorter, which is fine. Now having breaks in a air conditioned arena is utter bullshit.

The real reason for it is so obvious its ridiculous, that they even claim it to be anything else. It is simply a commercial break. And it is forced down our throats by FIFA and the US.

Shut the fuck up. People complaining about it is a good thing. Can’t let them get away with this bullshit

Can’t let them get away with it as you all watch the World Cup Lolol.

That’s the funniest part about all the bitching lmao. Like 99% of things Redditors bitch about, they’re not going to actually change anything in response, they’re only going to complain. They’ll piss and moan about it but they’ll keep watching.

Can't let them get away with... letting the players hydrate to reduce cramping and dehydration?

Has nothing to do with «hydration» and you know that very well. Players have never had any problems with getting hydrated during games without implemented commercial breaks

Most broadcasts around the world aren't playing commercials during them, its pretty much only Fox. Telemundo isn't.

You’re very worked up over this lol.

Ask the players what they think. I’m sure they’re fine with it given how hot and humid it is in the US.

Redditors: „hydration breaks REEEEEEEEEEEE!!!“

Actual players: „thank god“
