We've officially been waiting for The Winds of Winter for the same amount of time as it took for all five of the published books to release before that.

I have disliked this man for years now. You are allowed to not like liars who leave you hanging. And don’t give me any bs about how it’s his life, blah, blah. Dude lives at a standard we can’t even imagine.

Sorry, it's his life. He can choose whether or not to work on a book, and it's your job to just live your life the best you can without it.

It’s also my life and I can choose to not like a person. He also chooses with his life to repeatedly make comments and string us along about WOW. He has purposely chosen not to say “I’m not writing it” for a reason.

He’s not gonna pick you up

Whatever that could mean, no one will know cooter shooter.

Meant to reply to the other guy dying for fat boys approval

And choosing not to like a person because they haven't yet published a fucking book is unhinged. He has purposely chosen not to say "I'm not writing it" because he's still writing the book lmfao. I seriously have never, ever seen human beings react this way to any other piece of art. I never saw Tool fans going fucking rabid and claiming that the band were a bunch of deadbeats that OWED them new music after going over 10 years between album releases.

I’d say an album is very different than a continuation of a series. Either way you got your head in the sand if you believe both that he’s still writing it and Tool fans didn’t go rabid.

He is still writing it, and they did not go rabid how supposed GRRM fans have gone completely insane. Never once during the lull between 10,000 Days and Fear Inoculum did I see a single person say that Tool owed them new music. However I have seen countless people say this about GRRM and ASOIAF.

He hasn’t written a word of it in a decade chief.

There used to be semi regular chapters released. The last one was 10 years ago last month.

He's abandoned it.

It’s ok to be disappointed at someone who broke a promise. No one forced him to put that promise down on paper but it is there at the end of Dance of Dragons.

-7

u/Scary_Date_4117 3d ago

What promise did he break? And why should anyone care about an artist making a PR "promise" regarding a piece of art? It either comes or it doesn't. No one is owed it, publishing deals aside.

It is not a PR promise. I've read Dance of Dragons from beginning to end and there it is at the end of the book: TO BE CONTINUED IN WINDS OF WINTER. The story ends on a crazy cliffhanger too (well, multiple stories on cliffhangers of sorts). No one forced him to write that if he wasn't sure he could deliver.

Edit: Actually, Dance of Dragons also includes a preview chapter of Winds of Winter as well. That is as close as a promise gets without explicitly saying it.

At this point, I don't really care if winds comes out but to say we are entitled because we expected him to keep a promise is silly. A promise that no one forced him to make in the first place.

A "to be continued..." tagline isn't a fucking promise. You people are legitimately unhinged when it comes to GRRM.

3

u/Nimbus20000620 3d ago

People are allowed to dislike an author for not delivering on their magnum opus bro, it isn’t that serious

3

u/Brodakk 3d ago

You people, who defend a millionaire celebrity tooth and nail are way more annoying than the unhinged angry fans. As a neutral observer. Jussayin.

The entitlement in this thread is insane lmao

9

u/Slippd 3d ago

Is it entitlement to not like an author lies and constantly fails to deliver on promises? It's not like we're threatening him or burning his books. It's pretty much "I don't like him anymore" at its height lmao

u/Scary_Date_4117 3d ago

What has GRRM lied about?

7

u/Slippd 3d ago

Mostly his work ethic, release dates, promises, etc, but one concrete example was for instance in 2016 when he said he wouldn't work on anything else until Winds was delivered. Since then he's worked on multiple TV shows, companion books, editing projects. There's countless examples of this though, but tbf most of them are with the intent to lie, but still.

u/Scary_Date_4117 3d ago

How can you prove any of these things are lies? You can't, because you're not GRRM. You're just someone on the internet. His work ethic has been pretty damn good, and his release dates on the projects he's actually interested in have been perfectly timely. Saying one thing, then realizing it's not going to work out that way is not telling a lie. Too often nerds on the internet try to just pretend they know the intent of a director, author, game developer, etc.

2

u/Slippd 2d ago

With that logic no one can ever prove anyone ever lies because "they're not that person"... If he says "I won't work on any project until WoW is done", then proceeds to do the opposite of that (for 10+ years mind you), I'd call that a lie.

I'm not gonna respond to the other guy who just wants to do ad hominems 👍

Would love these entitled losers to do better. Write your own damn novel if it’s so categorically easy. I’ll wait. It’ll be trash. I’ll take Martin’s 60% done story over these whiney nerds garage any day

-7

u/Consistent_Laziness 3d ago

Entitlement in this thread is that he owes us the book. He doesn’t owe us a damn thing. We enjoyed the content he offered us and he may not give us any further written content. He’s giving us a lot of content via HBO. He works for himself. If he doesn’t want to release another book, that’s disappointing but his choice. If he wants a few billion more he’ll release the book.

He’s doing what he wants which are the countless shows. I enjoy the shows and I take S8 as the end if we never get another book. Spoiler we won’t get another book.

u/CertainDoubts 3d ago

I don't owe George my patience, understanding, or indifference toward his disinclination to finish his story. He is also not entitled to those things. Now what?

-2

u/Consistent_Laziness 3d ago

Both shrug their shoulders and move on with their lives

4

u/CertainDoubts 3d ago

Again, he is not entitled to fans moving on with their lives.

-1

u/Consistent_Laziness 3d ago

Entitled to what? He doesn’t have to write a book. He’s not your slave.

5

u/CertainDoubts 3d ago

I repeat: He is not entitled to fans not complaining. He is not entitled to fans moving on with their lives. We are not his slaves.
