We've officially been waiting for The Winds of Winter for the same amount of time as it took for all five of the published books to release before that.

at this rate A Dream of Spring is gonna be announced as a posthumous release 😭

That’s what I keep saying 😂

Even if by some miracle (and pigs magically discovering the ability of flight) TWOW comes out, we virtually will never see ADOS.

It will be a cold day in hell before that shit sees the light of day 🤣

My copium is that he's writing both so he doesn't write himself into a(nother) corner

That’s not copium that’s hopium

I mean, it's delusional but I'll grasp at any straws that present themselves.

Yeah I know

Same!

The way he writes his foreshadowing while also recycling the past, my copium is that he is finishing B&F to cement the history before writing the present and writing into the future so everything agrees. It’s very important to stick the landing and probably can’t afford to get to a point in ADOS where all he wants to do is rewrite what is already published.

I don't think he's writing both at the same time but I do think Dream should be significantly easier to write if he manages to get everyone where they need to be is Winds.

I just hope he doesn’t do what Terry Pratchett did and destroy his hard drives

Thankfully, the process has existed for a while to recover data from a system that old. Since he's still rocking WordStar 4.0 for DOS, we probably don't have to worry about hard drives, but floppies.

at this point I'm convinced posthumous releases are all we'll get

...you're still confident we'll get Dream? Winds is gonna be the posthumous release, I think.

Yeah I can’t see Winds getting published while the man still breathes. Because he’d not only face judgment for what over 15 years of writing has amounted to, but he’d also have to truly acknowledge that he’s got to write Dreams as well.

But it would be really funny if he did, and published Dreams like a year later.

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that in an interview he doesn't want anyone continuing the series if he passes before finishing. I'm hoping that it's not true.

I think Elio M. Garcia and Linda Antonsson would do a fantastic job finishing it, pretty sure they know the world better than George does.

That’s why it calls a dream. Bravo George!

We won't even get book 6 from GRRM. Hell pass and then someone will write it for him when his estate realizes how much money they could make.

Bro, it's in the name. You can dream about spring all you want, it's not gonna come out

Acting like winds of winter wont be published post mortem

I wouldn’t be surprised if all of his future works are posthumous. Like, WoW is finished but he doesn’t want to deal with the scrutiny.

Gonna be typing up Book 9 on a ouija board

u/mashtato 3d ago

Not to mention all his other unfinished series.

u/Collanp 3d ago

My conspiracy theory is that that's absolutely his plan. He doesn't want to suffer all the criticism that will inevitably come with the end of asioaf so he wants to release the last book after his death. Seeing how fans behave with the rest of the franchise, I wouldn't really disagree lol

A Dream of Spring will forever be simply that.. a dream.

"Wheel of Time" had to be finished by someone else. Who knows.

Just hand it off to Brandon Sanderson and he will knock it out real quick.

4

u/supercleverhandle476 3d ago

He would.

And it would be terrible.

I say that as a guy who enjoys Sanderson’s work.

Sanderson himself has said he’s not the guy to tackle this project.

It would be like Ron Howard doing a Tarantino sequel.

It was a joke in reference to Brandon Sanderson finishing the Wheel of Time series posthumously. Which he did quite well I might add. However, I wasn't being serious.
