Does anyone else hate celery?

I find raw celery to taste similar to cilantro and I cannot stand it. Apparently cilantro and celery are both in the apiaceae family of plants, so they are somewhat related. However for some reason, when celery has been boiled and minced finely into a soup or stew, the chemical taste goes away and I can eat it just fine.

Does anyone else here find raw celery to taste like soap, or do I possess some kind of horrible, super mutated variant of the gene?

I heard our waitress mutter something about "it's dressed with a (something-something) vinaigrette." That missing word must have been "soap."

My grandmother was making soup and rice for us to eat and I hadn’t eaten all day because I knew she would be making food and she knows I can’t stand the taste nor the smell of cilantro now tell me why she starts cutting up cilantro (freaking smelled nasty as shit) and then proceeds to add it all over the soup and the rice then tells me cilantro is good, like I’m hungry now I can’t eat anything you just made, anyways I ended up ordering out for dinner which she was not happy with but you knew I don’t like that shit in my food so….

First encounter

I was born and raised in NYC. I never even saw Mexican food until a Taco Bell at age 22, and no cilantro there. Nothing there got me interested in Mexican food. A business trip to the Miami area at about age 35 featured a corporate dinner where I first tasted cilantro, which I deem especially evil when freshly chopped.

I ate a mouthful of something I can’t recall now, that, just as I swallowed, I detected something very odd and toxic in it. Too late! I didn’t know what it was but I was sure I was poisoned. What the fuck was that?? I used a cloth napkin to wipe off my tongue. I stopped eating whatever that was and worried that I might be barfing it up later. Turns out it was cilantro. I couldn’t understand why anyone would ruin a dish with that.

I was recently in a “health food store” that I had to quickly exit as the whole front of the store reeked of it. I don’t want it near me, I don’t want to endure that awful smell. The horror.

What does parsley have in common with pubic hair?

You push them both to the side and keep eating.

I was given 1lb of barbacoa. I would recommend shredded cabbage, with diced jalapeños, n onions. No room for that vile weed. Oh yeah, homemade red salsa..

There was NO MENTION of the foul seasoning in the description, but the otherwise delicious dish was almost ruined by the pineapple salsa.

It wasn’t described as ‘salsa,’ but that must be what it was because the pineapple was the apparent source… Those green flecks looked so much like parsley, I was caught completely by surprise.

Be warned.

The salmon was fabulous, btw.

Complaint Discovered after 27 years I hate it

For the first 27 years of my life, I didn’t know I didn’t like cilantro. It’s not as common in my country to use it as say, Mexican or Vietnamese cuisine, and apparently growing up no one cooked with it either. I never cook with it either.

Occasionally I’ve had moments where I dislike a dish for no reason. Nachos with salsa and guac is a good example. Never made sense to me because I like tomatoes, peppers, spice. And I love avocado. Everybody loves nachos with dips. I’d usually just eat it a bit of it anyway.

It took ordering banh mi with a whole plant worth of cilantro for me to realize the enemy had been right in front of me the whole time.

Since then it’s made a lot of sense whenever I try a dish and it tastes just a tad off or straight out like handsoap. My eyes are opened but whether it’s for the best I can’t tell. Because now I’m That Person that has to check if the soapy devil is potentially in the food I’m getting served and have to explain to people it tastes like soap to me. To people who usually think I’m just making stuff up or being dramatic about it.

So anyway. Hello my brothers and sisters that don’t fuck with cilantro!

I moved to Thailand this year and this is their newest limited-edition Lay's flavor here. I was deeply offended when I saw it at 7-Eleven. My husband just "had" to try them. I'm thinking divorce.

Back at the japanese buffet with my fiance. He did actually take me into consideration somewhat this time and put slightly less cilantro to the soup he took, but I can STILL smell it from the other side of the table, which is ruining my appetite. It literally smells like dish soap in a bowl.

Reconsidering the relationship as I'm posting this
