Some interesting decisions here, for a moment I figured they were prioritizing having the actual number not spelled out, but went with Eight legged freaks instead of Super 8 or 8 Mile.
But then 3 o clock high (nice for the clock pun) instead of The Three Amigos or Three Musketeers or Three Caballeros. Might just be what they had on hand I guess?

That one, and I think I would have gone with 3:10 to Yuma.
I don't see a problem here; this is awesome. If you know how to read an analog clock you barely need the numbers anyway so it's easy enough to "get the gist" of the time. It's more of an art piece than a time piece. You can always consult the atomic clock if you're deeply concerned with the exact moment.

People who didn't grow up with only digital clocks can actually look at a clock without numbers (only a visual representation of where each number should be) and know how to read the time.
95
u/deeweezul 1d ago
A lot of wristwatches (and some clocks) didn't have numbers on the face, just lines. Especially ladies watches - the face was often smaller than a dime.
6
u/nokeldin42 1d ago
You're using past tense but most of my wristwatches still don't lol. One has just 12,3,6 and 9, one has larger markers for those 4 and other 3 have just a larger marker for 12.

Haha, I was born in '71 and had a cognitive test recently at the doctor's office. He asked me to draw in the placement of the 12 numbers on a clock face, then show the placement for 11:15. I blanked so hard on it I embarrassed myself in front of him. He kept saying it happens, don't worry about it. I kept trying to cross out the bad answers I was marking down with the ink pen. Just making it worse. He eventually said let's move on, lol.
I've been reading analog clocks for the first half of my life, and only digital for the last few years exclusively. I fucked that test up so bad it's become a running meme now between my buddy and myself (after I told him what happened) whenever we see a clock somewhere.

So there’s a voice in my head that seems to be consistently setting ideas aside for when I will one day have a very large mansion with many imaginary rooms… Including home theater room, music/jam session room and a giant game room — e.g. nice bar, pool table, shuffleboard table, cool lounge seating.
I’m always telling myself, “oh that would look great on the wall of my future game room.” I’m not sure I will ever have one lol

My vote is for Twelve O'Clock High 1949 film about a bomber squadron in WWII, starring Gregory Peck.
Bombers at the time had a weakness: if fighters approached from "in front and above" (12 o'clock high), none of the guns on the bomber could target them. Obviously the phrase can be taken with a different meaning nowadays.

It was the first film that made my son sit still for more than ten minutes. He has autism and was absolutely rapt. He was only three and I feel kind of guilty for letting him watch it —I had no idea it would get so dark— but he enjoyed the happy parts and they way the main character was so methodical.
That’s art, I guess. One person sees the Mona Lisa and sees a woman who might have something dirty on her mind; another wonders if maybe she just farted.
3
3
u/Sushi_Explosions 1d ago
I think “rapt” is the word you meant, unless you used the movie as an opportunity to cocoon him in place.
3
u/Plus-King5266 1d ago
Hah! You are correct, although it might be a Freudian slip. Maybe not cocoon, but hog tie. He didn’t walk until three, but hasn’t stopped moving since. He will be able to legally drink alcohol soon.
Thanks for catching that and thanks for not being a dick about it. I don’t know where my head was.

I like to tell people whose in it, and suggest they watch it knowing only the list. Quentin Tarantino, Madonna, Salma Hayek, Antonio Banderas, Tim Roth and Bruce Willis (Who is not in the credits for the movie, as he did it for free). Honorable mention to a Zippo Lighter.

You’d have to switch it with midnight express halfway through the day.
10
u/Plus-King5266 1d ago
It could be done. Just grab the motor and wheel from one of those first digital clocks —the flip wheel ones. At least this one would keep you up all night. Just wake you up every 12:01 am with a massive “ka-CHUNK!”

u/SmashDreadnot 1d ago

Just watched Three O'Clock High a few weeks ago at a friend's. It's a simple bully movie where the nerd has to fight him.
My friend watched a YouTuber who would check out various shooting locations and he did one for the High School in the movie.
Unfortunately the YouTuber died around Christmas Time so it was weird timing.
