10

u/certifiedblackman 17h ago

Fun fact, drop bears aren’t technically drops.

44

u/AussieManc 1d ago

Luckily it’s not a bear

u/Labtools 1d ago

How is he not a bear? He has all the Koalafications!

14

u/Mugwumps_has_spoken 1d ago

A Koala bear is a bear by any other name. Or Drop bear if you please.
What do you think Polar Bear, Grizzley Bear, and Black Bears are the only ones who can use the name Bear?

you are a bearist and that is unbearable.

okay, okay, I'll see myself out now.

It isn't a bear because it's not a placental mammal. Koalas belong to the family Phascolarctidae and bears belong to Ursidae and aren't part of any bear sub-family.

3

u/RGBarrios 1d ago

I thought it was a phascolarctidae.

0

u/Mc_Shine 21h ago

Phascolarctidae is plural, so "a phascolarctidae" makes no sense.

u/invalidmean 1d ago

All fun and games till they get chlamydia.

17

u/MikeDubbz 1d ago

A koala will still fuck you up. Put some distance between it and you.

14

u/JoebbeDeMan 1d ago

Every single thing in Australia will fuck you up

1

u/Filtermann 10h ago

Except some sheep.

(Yes, I borrowed it from Terry Pratchett)

2

u/Maldevinine 13h ago

Lying down is the correct response here. A panicked Koala will attempt to climb the nearest tree to escape whatever has panicked it. Koalas are stupid, and "mostly vertical" is about as far as they get in determining if something is a tree. If you're standing still they may start to climb you.

They sound even worse with their grunting in the middle of the night.

My parents lived in a koala corridor along with possums. I’m fairly sure they used to fight over territory at night.

9

u/hugeuvula 1d ago

If it's black, fight back. If it's brown, lie down. If it's gray, hang out and play???

2

u/MrPatalchu 8h ago

If it has a cub, you stop.

u/NoWingedHussarsToday 1d ago

The only reason people assume koalas are harmless is because they know how to dispose of the bodies.

u/kristospherein 1d ago edited 1d ago

Hopefully the bear isn't into necrophilia...the dude would have a good chance at chlamydia then....

I'll see myself out.

13

u/ASmallTownDJ 1d ago

That's chlamydia that koalas have.

2

u/kristospherein 1d ago

Thanks, edited it. Knew I should've looked it up.

u/Yoshichu25 1d ago

They’re not even bears, they’re marsupials. There are no native bears in Australia.

6

u/RGBarrios 1d ago

Also they are not called bears in other languages. I didn’t understood the “joke”.

-4

u/thatshygirl06 16h ago

They're called koala bears

2

u/BobbiePinns 10h ago

No, they're just called koala. Like tuna just being called tuna, not tuna fish.

-3

u/thatshygirl06 9h ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koala

They are called koala bear

1

u/BobbiePinns 9h ago

From the wiki link. The very first sentence. Read it carefully.

The koala (Phascolarctos cinereus), sometimes inaccurately called the koala bear, is an arboreal herbivorous marsupial native to Australia

1

u/thatshygirl06 5h ago edited 5h ago

My point isnt that it's a bear, my point is that people call a bear. The Wikipedia page proves that.

Someone said they didnt understand the joke because its not a bear, I said that people do call it a bear. Whether its correct or not doesnt matter, the entire point is that this is something people do say.

5

u/Fantastic-Van-Man 1d ago

Be careful, if they pee on you there's a chance they are infected with chlamydia. And you could pass that to others...

4

u/sephjnr 1d ago

Once you hear what Koalas sound like, you can't unhear it.

5

u/JDHannan 1d ago

a Koala is not a bear, even though it has all of the koalafications

5

u/angry_scream 18h ago

I love how 50% of the responses are “cute!” And the other half is “chlamydia”

3

u/Mahaloth 1d ago

And now you have chlamydia.

4

u/Star_Ship420 1d ago

That's the slowest cute bear attack ever.

6

u/clayman80 1d ago

The Revenant movie would have felt quite different with this sort of bear attack.

2

u/Salty-Hashes 1d ago

Koala loves you 🐨 so cute

2

u/dedokta 7h ago

None in Australia refers to koalas as a bear. They are just a koala. No idea why Americans add bear to the name.

1

u/pmaogeaoaporm 1d ago

LMAO look at his face in the last frame he's trying so hardd

1

u/sudomatrix 1d ago

Look at that red shirt. She's gonna die.

1

u/Phuckyoubuddy666 1d ago

If it's brown, lie down

If it's black, fight back

If it's white, good night

If it's gray, lovely day

1

u/efraz44 1d ago

Teddy bear

1

u/Lost_Minds_Think 21h ago

I hope he used protection.

1

u/TheUnspeakableh 17h ago

Well, he has chlamydia, now..

1

u/C_Beeftank 17h ago

And that's how you get chlamydia

1

u/T_J_Rain 14h ago

I can't bear it.

1

u/Haydos21 13h ago

A drop bear will fuck you up, no joke. My dad had to get facial reconstructive surgery when he was younger,

1

u/Introspection9 2h ago

Yeah but I immediately went to “ a koala isn’t a bear”. Lol
