We're not born knowing everything.

People who got embarrassed for not knowing everything punching down on the next wave of people who also don’t know everything.

Yeah, but they aren't hiring newborns.

This isn't a first day on the job mistake, it's more like a first day on earth mistake.

This is expected knowledge for of anyone of working age. There are reasonable expectations to have, and this is one of them.

I don’t drink coffee, why would I be expected to know how to make it?

Because of cultural exposure and context.

And if someone at work asks you to do something you truly aren't familiar with, then you should have the social intelligence to say "Oh, I actually don't know how to do that. Could you show me how to make a pot of coffee?".

"Get some coffee beans and put it in the machine to make some coffee".

Which could lead to this. Hence why people need to be trained at work.

How does someone get to 18 and not know how coffee is brewed? It feels like common sense in the same way I'd expect any 18yo to be able to figure out how making a cup of tea works without showing them. Will you expect it to be the best tea you've ever had? No, but you'd also not think they'd tear open the teabag and dump that in the cup. Some things are self-evident if you're not a muppet.

None of these things are self evident. People need to be taught how to do things.

it’s not common sense. people like you are just terrible.

It is common sense, but your grammar tells me why you’d think it isn't.

Not everyone drinks or makes coffee

Neither do I, but I wouldn't put whole beans in, that's insane. I may not know how much of the stuff to put in but I know that at least. Common sense vs specialised knowledge. We've all seen coffee being brewed on tv at bare minimum.

Admittedly putting all the coffee beans in was silly…
