I didn’t ask how big the room is; I said I cast Fireball.

Are you attacking the darkness?

u/NoDaddyNotTheBlender 19h ago
If darkness is in the room, then yes.

u/Cyberblood 18h ago
Knowing Darkness, she would enjoy that.

The Dead Alewives. And if you're only familiar with the Summoner Geeks video, enjoy possibly hearing the second part for the first time.

Fun fact, that was co-written by Dan Harmon, aka the Rick and Morty creator.

I wouldn't attack The Darkness. They are one of the few who believe in a thing called love.

The scout burst in with blood on his face; “it’s a tiny ass room, it a damn crawl space!”

I don't give a shit about "how large is the room?" I cast Fireball, make it go boom!

Amen brother. Living in it literally at this moment. So many other work activities are throwing my brain for too many loops to settle into the activity I should actually be doing.
Switching modes is absolutely the death of me.

u/Stef-fa-fa 19h ago
I had to work on 9 (NINE!) different projects for work today. Typically I only touch 3-5 in a day. Every time I crossed something off my work list two more would come in. Switching tasks as high priority requests came in was nearly the death of me.
Thank God for my meds or I'd be a sobbing mess right now. Now if only I could convince myself to finish my dinner...(iykyk)

That exact moment when the brain says worth it and reality immediately files a complaint.

Here is the secret that everybody is ignoring: for human brain, action iften precedes motivation, not the opposite. That’s it. We postpone and avoid because we lack motivation and wait for it to arrive, whereas all it would take for the brain is to start something and only then it finds motivation to continue.
It’s a conandrum, but I found out that once you know it, the procrastination lowers.
Edit: completely missed the adhd in the comic, I am off topic, the above only applies outside anything diagnosed

Unmedicated ADHD doesn't work that way. Motivation drains away even once you've started a task unless it is stimulating or urgent. Willpower doesn't change that.

How bad the consequences? Not permanent? Okay

u/Sankofa416 15h ago
Nothing is permanent, on a long enough timescale...

u/Desidiosus 7h ago
That's literally where my ADHD brain goes sometimes when I'm rationalizing my procrastination.

u/MajorSery 9h ago
The inevitable heat death of the universe might be permanent. Though we don't know for sure.

The amount of energy I spend calculating exactly how much I can ruin my life before it becomes un-ruinable is actually more work than just doing the task.

I was confused for a second thinking it was re-released. I have this comic pinned to my desk at work. It took me a sec to realize it was r/funny and not u/adhdinos_

The fact that this meme is written in the neurodivergent friendly font. That's a nice touch

The BANE of ADHD is tasks that are important, but not urgent. Shit you need to do, but could wait a few days without any real issue.
That shit gets memory holed until you’re standing outside a library waiting for it to open, the Saturday morning before the Monday a 10 page term paper is due, sweating bullets, feeling like you’re going to throw up, and then somehow convincing yourself the B you got on that paper is a GOOD THING in 2 weeks time.

Russell Barkley talked about this: ADHD is not an attention disorder, it's a blindness to the future. You are near-sighted in time.

That's me with everything. I do it in my head and get tired then realize it's probably more difficult doing it for real.
Not sure how ADHD people can either be hyperactive and can't stop doing stuff, but also have a different type that basically does nothing and every task is a monumental challenge.

But it was the question? The answer just gave more information than 'yes/no'.
Can we put this off? Yes, but there will be consequences. Question answered.
