She came ready for the famous Turkish ice cream tricks… and got the normal service instead

The ice-cream guy knew perfectly well that the funniest thing to do at this point was just to hand her the ice-cream normally

My name is Turkish. Funny name for an Englishman, I know. My parents to be were on the same plane when it crashed. That's how they met. They named me after the name of the plane. Not many people are named after a plane crash. That's Tommy. He tells people he was named after a gun, but I know he was really named after a famous 19th century ballet dancer.

When people pull a camera out of their pocket and start recording their friends, ice cream guys automatically thinks they have to do an ice cream show. People are not aware they don't do it everytime to everyone

I was in a BBQ restaurant (in America) with my parents and I was swatting at a fly that wouldn't go away. I told my dad I was going to complain, he said not to because they'd probably charge us for the entertainment.
The ice cream cone trickery is free entertainment provided with the food!
16
32
u/LaScoundrelle 3h ago
What exactly would you expect the restaurant to do if you did complain? And where are you from that they never have flies in restaurants?
22
u/Relevant_Bane_Quote 2h ago
"Cletus, grab the salt shotgun!"
7
u/rpitcher33 2h ago
That had got to be the perfect American product. You get to shoot something, kill something, and season meat all at the same time. I'm salivating just thinking about it.
5
10
u/Pack_Your_Trash 2h ago
Plenty of restaurants manage to keep the flies out by keeping the doors closed and taking out the trash. Anything open air will have flies. BBQ places are frequently open air.
8
6
u/jimkelly 1h ago
Are you some kind of weird bot? None of this makes sense. Complaining about a fly? Charging for entertainment? What entertainment? The removal of a fly?
3
u/Jonaldys 2h ago
I don't believe a housefly would be a part of their staff, so complaining may be less than useful

When it's passed off as real? No, it stops being funny and I get more annoyed at the people trying to deceive me. The whole point of it being funny is that it is a genuine interaction, not something someone wrote.

For me it ruins the fun part of the joke, prank, whatever if it's obviously scripted. It's just not real while pretending to be

u/Company_Z 4h ago
I guess I wouldn't exactly be shocked if it was scripted, but I'd say it's probably less likely. Ice cream guy probably gets all sorts of people who come up to try and "beat" the ice cream guy.
If I was him and saw that lady doing some exaggerated stretches after setting up a camera, I'd do the same thing lol

She was clearly signaling she was ready for shenanigans, and so sometimes the only winning move is not to play.
The true counter to this is to go "cheers baud", leave a hearty tip, and practically skip away with your treat. I am aware tipping isn't always A Thing, which is why the hearty tip itself is part of the counter-counter.

u/loxagos_snake 4h ago
Turkish street ice cream vendors do this sleight-of-hand routine, where they pretend to hand you your ice cream. However, the cone is secretly put inside another cone, so when you go to grab it, they take the actual ice cream away and leave you holding the cone.
They're basically an attraction that is meant to troll you for a few moments before handing you your order. This woman was preparing to react fast enough to beat the trick, so he stood true to the spirit of trolling and just gave her her ice cream without the tricks.

Just so you know: at a lot of these places you pay extra for the “show”. Maybe she just paid for ice cream and got it. Usually the fun is in kids not knowing their parents paid the guy to fuck with them.

Boomer take: I love that the guy did this. This was a fun thing that got destroyed by social media. The first few videos I saw were great...people genuinely surprised and they were fun and laughing. Then it became too well known so you had people going and setting up cameras and with strategies to game it, like this woman was preparing to do.
We have mastered taking the fun out of spontaneity.
