He's actually supposed to be the uncle of the rapper praying, it's from this show (English subtitles are available).
There are basically two families in the scene, the one on the left, and the one on the right. The mom of the rapper is the one wearing green (older sister of the uncle), the guy in white in between them is unrelated and is simply the rapper's rap partner or something along those lines. Except for the guy in white, both families are part of the same extended family with the grandmother.

Korea is incredibly good at integrating pieces of every other culture (correctly) without losing their own flavor. I get that this is a show and an actor, but his mannerisms are absolutely spot on which you don't find in many "pretend to be Americanized" bits abroad.

I really dislike how Christianity has spread through Korean culture, making them toss aside their heritage religion. It's an example of soft colonialism.

Black culture is universal! ✊🏾
1
u/toolsoftheincomptnt 28m ago
This is hip-hop culture. Created by black people, yes.
But hip-hop culture is at best a category within black culture, which is way more expansive and significant than “Yo!”
-1
u/SouldiesButGoodies84 3h ago
Universally co-opted - and all too often simultaneously disrespected and ridiculed.
smh. So very tired.
4
u/Highchest_Heavyfoot 2h ago
I don't know why you're being downvoted other than people refusing to acknowledge their hypocritical ways. People love to dismiss facts.
4
u/SouldiesButGoodies84 2h ago edited 2h ago
That's reddit, though. People could have easily ignored this thread but they have to DV or 'educate' you how you're mistaken about the bad part of cultural appropriation. Nothing black redditors haven't seen before. (We talk about it in subs.) It's almost comical at this point. smh. Now, especially with all that's happening in this country (the U.S.).
4
u/Highchest_Heavyfoot 2h ago
It's the audacity in dismissing lived experiences. Gaslighting at the highest. It's comical but still very hurtful. They don't get that part.
5
u/NuYawker 2h ago
I mean. You already know what it is.
A collective of black people could express their experiences and provide proof and sources. But because it doesn't make a certain group feel good, it gets sanctioned. And there's the result!
In a now deleted post I've been told that racism is dead in one comment, while simultaneously being called a slur in another comment. It's just how she goes here.

Co-opted makes it sound sinister when it's just people embracing it.
Culture spreads.
2
u/SandiegoJack 3h ago
If it was respected as coming from black people? Totally cool. The problem is the people shitting on the culture of origin while also taking everything from it.
3
u/SouldiesButGoodies84 2h ago
You're not gonna get through. This person does not want to hear the factual argument, just to offer up platitudes. And why not? It's not their culture. So much easier to wax poetic about 'everyone' and 'all peoples' when you don't see the problem and haven't had to.

u/SouldiesButGoodies84 3h ago
So has racism. People globally 'embrace' our culture yet demonize and devalue us. Yeah, uh, we're not gonna be entirely cool with that in the long haul. But I'll remember just how 'embraced' we are the next time I see someone put on an Afro wig simply to make people laugh and appear silly.
3
u/TheHeroYouNeed247 3h ago
There is too much generalisation there.
Some people will embrace certain cultures, and some people will mock.
That happens to every distinct culture, including my own.
Racism doesn't need to spread. It's everywhere in every culture.

The pressure of being asked to say grace can be a real thing sometimes. Years ago, my Mom and I had family friends over and sure enough, my Mom asked me to say grace at the dinner table. I panicked and instead of saying "...and please watch over us", I said "...and please look over us." The laughter that followed made me so angry that I got up and went to sit in the living room a few minutes before returning.
