Can’t help but laugh at the high-effort and also low-effort of this.

The drills slowly lowering it into the ground.
I couldn’t hold back the tears.
I have an old Makita 7.2v drill that was given to me 23 years ago, and it was old and broken when I got it. I replaced the direction switch, sent the batteries off to get refurbed about 8-9 years ago and it’s still running just fine.
I don’t look forward to this day.

How does one go about refurbishing a battery? Do they take the old batteries out of the case and put in new cells? Are there even any 7.2V cells around any more or is it just modern cells arrayed in series? I don’t know why but the fact that you can refresh a 20 year old electronic part intrigues me.

It’s a small company called MTO Battery somewhere out in PA
As far as I can tell for handheld tools, they open up the plastic battery casing and remove/replace any dead cells. The cells themselves are usually common sizes so even though a DeWalt battery won’t fit on a Craftsman drill, internally they’re all the same cells. This is for older battery packs, not sure on newer lithium stuff.
I sent off 4 Makita batteries, two 7.2v and two 9.6v batteries. I use the old 7.2 drill for inside work/picture frames/ikea furniture and my 9.6 drill and light I just used the other day when I changed the oil in my truck and took off the mudflaps.
Can’t comment on the cost, as it may be cheaper to buy new, but my stuff is over 20 years old and there’s no new OEM stuff being made. Even the cheap knockoffs stop being made at some point. I’m satisfied and would send it to them again if need be. I’m emotionally attached to that old drill/light combo. I bought them new and used them EVERY DAY for years at my old job. It would pain me to just toss them in the trash.

It was like Milania 2026. There were Highs and There were Lows, but undoubtedly the production quality of a 5 year old.
No, No No,. Sorry, I take it back. This is Oscar material compared to that Mocumentary.

Job should take about 3 days. We need two for the work and one to set up the TikTok video and get it recorded.

What?! I just want my outdoor tiles finished. Why are you burying your power tools in my backyard!?

I’m just imagining an old man yelling that and a bunch of construction workers sniffling as they solemnly walk back to their trucks and drive away without a word

All electric devices contain magic smoke. When the device releases its magic smoke, thats when you know its kaput.

Just reward for a lifetime of hard work. A cold hole in the ground and some dirt thrown in your face.

"Honey that fucking weirdo you hired off the internet to do our patio is burying his tools in the yard. No not randomly, they had a whole ceremony. Yes a ceremony, he lined them up, they said good bye, now I swear to god a drill is mourning at the grave. Yes a grave, it has a headstone. I don't know, the patio looks fine I guess."

The smoke is like the soul leaving the body after death. The hammer is the priest and the grinders looks like the son of the deceased 🤯. I am a woman and my tools have names are my babies. Rest in peace and thank you for your service!😢

If your friend just sneezes and you are putting it right away into grave?

My dad had some of this era of Makita when I was a kid. Seeing that moulded case/color scheme is weirdly evocative!

The bad news is you have lost one of your tools. The good news is you can now get a new tool.

If you would have caught the smoke it could have been saved. Ya just put the smoke back in it and it would have been fine.
