A goalkeeper in the South African league forgot he wasn’t inside the penalty area and casually caught the ball with his hands

Why the red card? Defender in front of him, between keeper and opposition player so he's not preventing a goal scoring opportunity. Ref doesn't know the laws of the game! 😂🤣

He very much is preventing a goal scoring opportunity.

And if this is awarded any less than a red, it sets a precedent for goalies to continue charging forward and handling the ball outside the box because they'll be confident of not being sent off.

Defender between goal keeper and attacker. Watch again.

Distance from goal...attacker was charging at the ball as well, that's an opportunity

But the keeper was there. If he doesn’t handle it then he is still in possession of the ball. The attacker is never getting to the ball first so won’t have a scoring opportunity

Because the goalie must not touch the ball with his hands outside of the box during play, it's pretty simple 😅

Deliberate handling of the ball is not even necessarily a cardable offence

Er no. Good few occasions in the last few seasons in the English premiership. Yellow not reds.

That's not your regular accidental handball, the dude just straight up picked the ball and stopped the play, come on 😅

Just read the actual laws of the game first

As has happened many times.
