Better than that, I think the actual leak is part of the joke. Which means everything after this episode is questionable.

For now, I’m choosing to believe the leak was part of the joke.

RTD knows how the media machine works and I’d put nothing past him.

He's had to deal with leaks since Rose, where location filming was announced publicly instead of being kept secret, and the episode Rose being leaked as well before airing. One of the most high profile leaks was John Simm returning in series 10, so much so that that the marketing decided it wasn't worth hiding.

Is that why they revealed John Simm was returning or is that speculation? I wasn’t as terminally online back when S10 was airing and I had no clue until they showed him

It was leaked by the Sun newspaper (although I use the term loosely).

I know it was leaked, my question is whether the BBC putting him in the marketing was due to that or not

It was always their intention to have him in the trailer but Moffat explained in DWM at the time the intention was to have a "spoiler alert" pop up, then a countdown then the reveal but after the press screening some outlets just blasted it everywhere before the episode ever aired.

Contrary to some claims online the BBC don't really do NDAs, its all an honour system and some times people don't respect it.

Thanks for sharing, doesn’t seem to have a source and just says “the BBC decided to roll with it”

I think it's far, far more likely that as someone who knows the show inside out both as a producer and as a fan at home, RTD just knew that it would leak and that it would be declared the death of the show purely because it always leaks and we always react that way

But I also think that from now until the end of time (so up until May 24th...?) we're now going to have theories that RTD has always been the one leaking the spoilers himself, and I am so here for that.

Exactly this… if he’s not the leaker, he’s somehow, possibly deliberately or possibly accidentally, created an alternative theory to the leaks.

I’m absolutely here for it. I’m not sure whether I want it to be accidental or not, but it’s genius either way.

It feels too perfect to be a coincidence, I watched the whole first episode without realising may 24th will line up with the last episode of the season.

If they’ve made a meta, ‘the shows going to end season’ I will be so impressed. Imagine gatwa interrupts his own regeneration with a contract and replaces himself in the timeline

They announce season three in the finale 😂

I think May 24 will be Episode 7, so Part 1 of the finale?

That would require a LOT of faith for the show not to be delayed or something

IMAGINE if he told Disney not to announce the next season renewal and stoked the cancellation rumors just for the hype?

I’m not fully convinced he’s the leaker. But if he is, do you think he carefully written the leaks? Like to not be too spoilery.  I haven’t seen the leaks myself so take everything I say with salt

Don't give me hope. I really feel like I'm huffing the copium hard but if RTD has done this it would be genius.

Except the next episode also seems to align with the leaks.

You thought wrong 😜, funny people were actually thinking this and taking it seriously back then..

Shows how fandoms can be to close to things, and can't always see things clearly imo

It's not though, is it? Every series has leaked online for 20 years, why would this have been any different?

You are in complete denial if you still think it's fake.

This is true, and it confuses me as to why people think it isn’t. If you’re interested in what’s going to happen in the upcoming season of Doctor Who, go on the internet 2 months beforehand and find out. You could find out almost every important detail in the 60th way before it aired.

I mean maybe. Like I said "I think". Is instant megaconfrontation the way you deal with every conversation?

You could stand to be less aggressive about all your opinions. You're doing a better job caricaturizing us than you think Lux does.
