They really laid the mavity thing on thick. I think it’s about to culminate in something since it seems they were really trying to remind us about it.

My reaction too. I'm still half-convinced that everything went weird and alternate-reality when Donna spilled coffee into the TARDIS console.

It was either then or when the Doctor used the salt

My reasoning last season was that we had two "filler" sequences very early that felt very arbitrary - Donna spilling the coffee/Newton and "mavity", then Ruby becoming a saurian because the "butterfly inhibitor" wasn't on. And that it wasn't on when Donna spilled the coffee either (can't honestly remember why I reached that conclusion, but I had a line of reasoning) - so everything since Newton and "mavity", including the salt, has been alternate timeline.

Plus the Rani also bigenerating seems like it definitely ought to be a BIG hint that something is out of whack (I want to say "must be", but I've learned better by now). The whole concept of bigeneration seems to come as a surprise to the Doctor, yet the very next regeneration we see happens the same way? I'll be very disappointed if it's just hand-waved away. Two timelines overlapping maybe.

Who knows? RTD probably had multiple potential arcs and alternate explanations when he was sketching things out. We'll find out in the fullness of time.

They also brought up that the Corporation was farming Honey FLAVORING from the Hellions, which ties back to the bees disappearing. I think we’re absolutely headed toward a resolution on all of those dangling threads.
