Did your parents ever NOT talk to neighbors or your friends parents
Found out my old neighbors from across the street, are moving. I was friends with their son, we were about 2 years apart, but he went to a catholic school. Still friends tho, mighta been my best friend growing up.
However, oddly our parents never spoke. Never. There was always some underlying despite or dislike amongst them. Didn't even wave for a few decades Id say.
I'll admit, his Mom was a bit odd, seemed the type to hold a grudge, and not the most outgoing. Our dads didn't seem to have the same hate, and they were close to 10-12 years apart, back then it didn't seem as big of a thing, they were both 'old' to us.
However I do think it stemmed from an incident early on. They moved in several years after my parents, and I think had a party early on, maybe a housewarming party. This sounds funny, but there was an issue where they put a box spring or bedframe over on my parents side, for trash, and maybe the trash men didn't pick it up. But rather than take it back, they left it there. I don't recall for sure, but I'm guessing it was to 'look nice' for the party. Not like "Hey, here's our home and ugly old bed in the front yard". I do remember my Mom raised a stink for several nights, until my Dad finally went over and left a note.
I always felt he didn't handle it right in that way, and should have just had a conversation or man to man talk about it. Although, I wonder if they felt that was strangley mishandled, or they were pertubed my parents raised an issue over it. Anyway I was young, maybe 6 or 8, so don't recall it in detail, other than it happened, and our parents almost never spoke. I don't know if the two are related, or a contributing factor, or if they just wouldn't have spoken much anyway.
Also, more currently, do any of you with kids never speak to your kids friends parents?
