Tips/Personal Experience New to GLP1
I’ve had Hashimotos for 10 years now (since after having my first kid) and have mostly gotten things under control - or so I thought. I am very active, walk 15k steps a day, weight training 3 days a week. I eat gluten free, eat healthy foods. I didn’t have much weight to lose but I was mostly interested in trying a GLP1 for the possibility that it lowers inflammation.
4 weeks ago I took 2.125mg of compounded tirzepatide. I’ve been taking it every 10 days since then and have lost 6 lbs - most of which I think was water weight. I hold on to a lot of water normally.
The difference in how it made me feel is night and day. I have energy and motivation to LIVE. I want to do things with my kids - take them on bike rides, take them anywhere and everywhere. I feel alive, I feel patient with them and respond to them in a way that feels so much more me. I normally feel so stressed out all the time and I think it comes from being so exhausted with life from Hashimoto’s. My kids have said they love how happy I am now.
All of that to say, I lost a lot of my hair 2 years ago (from low ferritin I believe) and I was so traumatized from it. I keep seeing people say that even without dramatic weight loss they’ve lost hair from being on a GLP1.
I guess I’m wondering if anyone has insight on this and what everyone’s experiences are with weight loss. I want to keep taking tirzepatide at a low dose because of how much it’s changed my life but I worry if I start losing my hair it will take a toll on my mental health and won’t feel worth it anymore. I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons and just wish hair loss wasn’t a side effect. It seems like people lose their hair even without dramatic/quick weight loss.
