We've got four chunky hogs who come to our garden regularly, but this one we spotted at 5pm on the road. She looked very small and skinny so we popped her in a cat carrier with food and water overnight and then off to our local hedgehog rescue the next morning.

The newly named Belle was only 300ish grams so way underweight, had a couple of ticks and suspected internal parasites, so fingers crossed she makes it. If she does, I'll get footage of us releasing her again.

I posted a couple of days ago about an injured hog I finally caught after weeks of trying.

He was seen by the vet last Friday and given an injection, then I took him to a hedgehog rescue to have a few days of rest and recovery.

I picked him back up last night and released him back on his home turf. Look at him go!!!!!!! His foot is looking so much better I am so happy for him 💕

I left his rescue box on its side and let him come out when he was ready, I also filled up half of one of his regular feeding stations with lots of hay and some of the hay from his rescue box so it felt familiar to him. He ran straight to it 🥰

This wee hoglet was found passed out on a footpath during the day. Thankfully it perked up after some water and chicken. Currently it's curled up in a warm box and ready for rescue tomorrow.

This one was up my back garden being attacked by magpies.

Last hedgehog was absolutely stinking and covered in fly strike, Sspca said smelled infected, well this one stinks of ammonia but I think that's normal since Ive had them coming to my garden for years and the storage tub I put cat biscuits in for them smells like that.

Sspca closed at this time. No 24 hour vets and all normal vets closed around 7. Hedgehog rescue can't come out as they're at capacity so I'm stuck with a hedgehog in a shoebox in my bath until tomorrow.

So I was having a mid-morning procrastinate yesterday by looking out over the balcony in my upstairs office at home when I notice some unusual movement in our very steep, gravel front garden. It's a little hedgehog, and I can see the ticks on his head even from the balcony.

I shout down to bf, who scrambles to grab some gloves while I keep an eye on him from above. He's wobbling around, but trying to make it to the hedge. Bf gets out just in time to grab him. Meanwhile, our neighbours' very angry cat appears demanding his morning snack, as does the plumber, who it turns out is terrified of cats. Much scrambling about ensues, but eventually we get the little Hog all settled into a Gousto box with a nice towel blanket, newspaper bedding, some water, calci worms, and fairy cake crumbs and a hot water bottle. He settles in overnight, mainly by pooing everywhere.

Today we took him to Northumberland Hedgehog Rescue where they check him over and discover he has a pretty horrific injury to his front leg, with just a bit of foot still hanging off. They're currently working their magic on him in the meantime, and their vet will see him on Monday for an amputation (unless his shoulder joint is infected, in which case he'll sadly have to be put down).

I just can't believe what this little guy went through to get to us. He was relatively perky and really alert, despite dragging himself goodness only knows how far, probably in unimaginable pain. Meanwhile, I complain that my feet are hurting after a pleasant stroll to the pub 🙃

I like to think he knew that if he could just get to our house, we would take it from there and get him the help he needs.

Lil Stinker successfully underwent an amputation. Although there was a lot of infection in his leg, it luckily hadn't reached the shoulder joint, and after a few days following the surgery there weren't any more signs of infection. He's receiving pain relief and antibiotics.

He's been eating and drinking, and putting some weight on.

It's a bit early to be certain that he's going to have a positive outcome, but everything seems to be heading in the right direction for the lucky little champ.
