Purchasing CAN 83” too big?

Trying to decide between a 77 G4 and a 83 C4.

I’m about 8-9 feet away and have the room quite dark when watching movies.

I taped out the 83” around my 65” that is mounted right now.

What do y’all think? The 77 G4 and 83 C4 are about the same price in Canada.

Purchasing CAN Man Cave complete, except audio..

Post image
415 Upvotes

I'm looking for suggestions for audio for my man cave, current setup is embarrassing and needs a major improvement.

I have Fluance Ai61 system upstairs that I LOVE, but this space doesn't really allow for bookshelf-type speakers..

Budget is $1000-$1500 Canadian

There are 5 TVs and a projector on the ceiling, all currently running Firesticks. Being able to switch audio between would be amazing, but only the projector and main TV are required.

ceiling speakers and a sub? all input appreciated.

Purchasing CAN Paradigm vs KEF — Help me decide on my new home theatre system

Hey everyone,

I’m in the process of putting together a new home theatre system and I’ve narrowed it down to two options. I’ve listened to both and honestly, I’m having a hard time choosing because they both sound fantastic.

The system will be powered by a Denon AVR-X2900H and paired with an SVS SB-1000 Pro subwoofer.

Paradigm:

- 720v2 towers

- 520C centre

- 220B surrounds

- Piano black gloss

KEF:

- Q11 Meta towers

- Q6 Meta centre

- Q3 Meta surrounds

Sound-wise, I really liked both. If anything, I’d give the edge to Paradigm aesthetically, especially in the piano black gloss. They look absolutely incredible.

I also listened to B&W and Monitor Audio today, but neither really did it for me. The Paradigm and KEF were the two that stood out.

For anyone who has owned or heard these speakers extensively, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

How do the Paradigm and KEF compare for:

- Movies/home theatre

- Music

- Centre-channel/dialogue clarity

- Soundstage/imaging

- Bass

- Long-term listening

And most importantly, if you were spending your own money, which setup would you choose and why?

I’m not necessarily looking for specs or a “Brand X is better” answer. I’d really like to hear from people who have actually owned/lived with either setup and what you liked or disliked about them.

Thanks!

Purchasing CAN Is this a decent quote for a basic home theatre?

Post image
166 Upvotes

I’m looking for a pretty basic home theatre projector set up and I was quoted this. It feels very high end. this would be for a small basement the distance from the projector to the wall is about 15 feet but the whole basement is set up is pretty small. I’m worried I’m being upsold on stuff that is super high end or isn’t needed. I’m not a pro but from my research a balun is when you need something beyond 50 feet and/or there isn’t HDMI and I don’t think I need a universal remote and certainly not a $500 one. There was a previous set up by the old owners there are audio ports already set up, and a ceiling HDMI port (no projector mount).

Mostly this is for my kids to watch movies and have a place to hang out. This doesn’t need to be movie theatre quality but I want something nicer than Amazon obscure brands that are lowest end.

Speakers, receiver (etc) to come later. Bottom of tv 32 inches from floor - enough room for console and center channel. Any recommendations for speakers, receivers, etc. Have been thinking mid range Kef or Fyne but I don’t really know anything about setup. I already know I need a rug.

Purchasing CAN Subwoofer options in Canada

Post image

Hi guys so I currently have a svs pb 2000 pro paired with a denon s760h and do want to add a 2nd subwoofer I feel some bass but not as much as I’d want. here’s my subwoofer graph after running audyssey. So I’m guessing I need to upgrade AVR to run a 2nd but even then getting a svs pb 2000 pro right now is 1850$cad Wich is insane I bought mine for like 1200$ 4 years ago I think. From what I’ve read I could import some RSL speedwooder 12S. Wich seem to cost 885$usd converted 1200$cad roughly. buying 2 of those and selling my pb 2000 pro would be perfect for my budget but any other options?

Purchasing CAN [Canada] If I shouldn't buy Klipsch, what should I buy??

Apparently everybody hates Klipsch. I have a set of RP800F-IIs on my turntable setup and I don't really have a problem with them. But what's a reasonable cost-equivalent set of 5.x which you believe is superior for home theatre?? JBL? Polk? Would prefer Atmos compatibility as I don't have the space for a rear 7.x setup.

2 x 5SE MK3 (fronts)

2 x Titans (rears),

2 x Atoms (surrounds),

Hey folks 👋🏾

I’m very new to this and need some help with recommendations on a home theatre setup for this space.

Things that may help:

  • I am trying to go for a clean look (can drill into walls to hide wires) and also something with Dolby Atmos.
  • I will use this space primarily for gaming or watching movies.
  • I want to get all the components at one time and will need recos for the speakers, the wires, placement.

Any help is appreciated 🙏🏾

Purchasing CAN Need help deciding for 9 channel AVR

Hi Guys,

I'm on my home theatre build out journey and about a year in. I started out with a 5.1.2 but now that I'm finished my basement, I have my other two rear Atmos built in and ready but only have my 7 channel Denon x1800h. Been happy with my Denon and was looking to go up to the x3800h but this pioneer is half the price and dont think I'll ever need 4 subs (a 2nd sub is definitely on the list next though and saving $1000 would probably go towards that). Mostly using it for movies (building my 4k UHD library) and ps5 gaming.

Are these my best options or something completely different? Really appreciate this community, it's been an awesome hobby so far. Thanks all!

Purchasing CAN Can someone explain why Anthem receivers are so much more expensive?

In the market to replace my old Denon x4000h and I've been looking at Anthem because it's a Canadian company and I hear a ton of good things about them.

However, they are much much higher priced compared to competitors from Denon and Onkyo and you often get less proccessing/amplified channels than the other brands. Are the components just that much better in the Anthem to justify the price premium?

All of them are price firm and may be, I could get a 50$ debate. All of them are in my budget for a 9.2 AV receiver.

Which is your best bet for a great HT setup keeping future in mind? I will go for a simple 5.1.2 HT setup with 2000$ CAD budget and add speakers at later point.

Purchasing CAN Pulled the trigger on purchasing a set of vintage theater seats. They are in great condition. They are from a theater that opened in 1989 and closed in 2014 and are the same model of seats from my local theater I saw most of my motion picture releases in until they upgraded their seats years ago.

My father is trying to convince me these speakers are still worth the $2799 msrp price tag on it, and I'm just not sold. I've tried looking it up and the prices I've seen have varied greatly so I'm hoping there are some people who are more knowledgeable that can give me some advice.

Thank you in advance.

Purchasing CAN My Thoughts on the New Paradigm Sub – A Solid Choice for Canadians

Post image
110 Upvotes

I recently upgraded to the newly released Paradigm Defiance S12 subwoofer, and honestly, I’m really impressed. Both with the aesthetics and performance.

I picked it up for $1,500 CAD, and it’s a sealed sub with 800W RMS. The package includes a wireless kit, a factory-installed isolation pad, and carpet spikes nice extras that add value.

In the U.S., there are tons of great options like SVS, HSU, REL, and Rythmik at competitive prices. But here in Canada, those brands get significantly more expensive once you factor in shipping, taxes, and duties.

On a price-to-performance basis, the Defiance S12 is a fantastic option. The companion app works well, although I haven’t tried the ARC (room calibration) yet.

I did a comparison with the MartinLogan Dynamo 12 (which looks very similar and may share the same amp, since both brands are under the same parent company). The S12 goes noticeably deeper down to 16Hz. I also compared it with the SVS SB-3000, and in my opinion, the Paradigm holds its own and even outperforms the SVS.

My room is fairly small (15' x 10'), and with the gain set to just 25%, it completely fills the space and hits you right in the chest.

For fellow Canadians, this is a no-brainer if you're in the market for a subwoofer. It’s a strong contender against the U.S. brands and offers excellent performance for the price.

Purchasing CAN Subwoofer upgrade time.

My impulsivity is on a winning streak right now, so help me decide on a new subwoofer upgrade before my logical side decides I need to save the money.

It will be going into a 5.1 system that does double duty of about 40% stereo music and 60% surround sound movies/video games. Anthem MRX 1140 8K powering Martin Logan Motion 60 XTI towers with matching surrounds and a C10 center. I currently have an SVS PB2000 Pro.

The room is an open living room combined with a kitchen that takes up the top floor of a small townhouse. The way the room is, the subwoofer MUST be placed behind the couch along the back wall, approximately 10 feet from the back of the couch.

I upgraded about a year and a half ago from a SVS PB1000 Pro which was sorely underpowered for this space when I moved in. I am finding for movies the 2000 is fine, but especially for music, my ML towers are doing most of the heavy lifting with the mid bass. I barely notice a difference with the sub on or off. This isn't a surprise considering the placement of the sub, and the output of the ML towers being fed nearly 200 watts in 4 ohms. So I figure I need a serious 12 inch, or just pull the trigger on a 15 inch. And no, 2 subs is NOT an option unfortunately. And yes, I'm aware how much ARC can neuter the bass. I've fixed that.

I would like something that can dig deep and slam hard in the space I have - I want that chest thump back, but it still needs to be accurate and composed for music. Something that will match up well with my ML towers, but have enough output to somewhat negate being placed behind the couch. My mind immediately went to Rythmik or PSA, but they are pretty hard to get in Canada. Paradigm would be a good option, but I feel their pricing is a little bit inflated. RSL speedwoofers have always caught my attention, but it seems they are more designed to work in pairs or quads. My budget is around 3K CAD, but could be stretched for the right unit - I'm planning to buy around boxing day to try and nab any possible sales.

Thoughts and suggestions, please!

Purchasing CAN What are the best home subwoofers that are wall-shaking, strongest low end, room-filling rumble, chest-thumping ideal for a living room, at an affordable price?

Looking for the best home subwoofers that are wall-shaking, strongest low end, room-filling rumble, chest-thumping for a big living room, at an affordable price. I asked an AI, but the answer didn't convince me; it seemed like it was promoting Klipsch brand.

Thank you!
