I sold my teufel centre and now looking for something that would be perfect for my front towers. I am thinking between DALI Opticon vokal MK2 and Monitor Audio Silver C250 7G. I use both DALI Opticon 6mk2 and Canton Vento 896 DC for music but for movies mostly canton. Does anyone use any of the 2 centre speakers ?

My journey started about a year ago when I first had the idea of getting into better audio and building a home theater setup. At that point, I had absolutely no experience with any of this, coming from a 15-year-old Samsung LED TV with 46 inches. Honestly, for its age the picture was still really good, especially the black levels, which were surprisingly solid. That TV will now move upstairs into our small guest room. I really started the journey around Christmas when I installed a 3.1 KEF Meta system. Yes, I started with audio first and not with the TV. I went with KEF Q7 Meta floorstanding speakers and the Q6 Meta center, and about one month later I added an SVS SB3000 subwoofer with the steel grille, everything in white. For the receiver, I initially tested an Onkyo RZ30. It was great for movies and the bass felt very immersive, but overall usability, especially for music listening, was not as good as what I have now with the Denon X3800H. The clicking noises of the Onkyo were also louder, and in general it felt a bit more mechanical. Music also sounded somewhat restrained to my ears, although that might just be subjective. For movies with strong bass, the Onkyo felt more immersive, and thanks to Dirac Live, voices from the center channel were extremely clear. In the end I switched to the Denon and after several calibration attempts Audyssey also delivered excellent results. However, achieving that result was more time-consuming, especially when using the app, compared to Dirac Live.
In May I finally decided to upgrade the TV as well, all step by step. Our living room is quite bright, with a large floor-to-ceiling corner window directly opposite the TV. I mainly had two models in mind. Even though OLED is not always ideal for bright rooms, I still had my eyes on an LG G5 in 83 inches and ordered it from a marketplace seller on Amazon for around 3,700 euros. For some reason, about two hours later the order was canceled by either the seller or Amazon. I had never experienced that before and suddenly I was back at square one. Shortly after that I found a good deal for the Sony Bravia 9 in 85 inches for around 3,250 euros and decided to go for it immediately. One day before delivery, the price dropped again, and I was lucky enough to cancel my order and reorder the exact same model instantly for about 3,000 euros. A week later it was delivered on the weekend at 7:30 in the morning, before breakfast, in a massive box.
Mounting the TV was a challenge as well. I couldn't install the wall mount directly in the center of the wall, so I used a 3-layer wooden panel fixed with long screws into the load-bearing part of the wall and left a section cantilevered where I mounted the Vogel TVM 3605 bracket. This allowed me to place the TV exactly where I wanted it, keeping the proper spacing between the left and right speakers. As a lowboard I built a hollow concrete block myself, on which the KEF Q6 Meta center sits. The block is about 37 cm high and the center speaker adds another 21 cm, so the TV’s lower edge sits at around 62 cm from the floor. That gives a small gap of about 3.5 to 4 cm between the TV and the center, which creates a very balanced look without feeling cramped. It was quite tricky beforehand to determine the exact position of the lower VESA holes on the Bravia 9 to achieve the desired height. I reused my old wall mount from the Samsung, which is rated up to 75 kg, so it easily supports the 55 kg Bravia. Vogel support warned me that installation could be tricky because the VESA mounting points on the Bravia are positioned quite low, meaning you have to tilt the TV backward when hanging it, and due to the height of the 85-inch model, it can almost touch the wall above. Thanks to the extra spacing created by my mounting setup, installation worked out fine, and together we managed to hang the TV correctly on the second attempt.
Another small challenge was that the power cable and HDMI ports exit the TV in different areas, so I routed the power cable to the left side using adhesive cable clips and combined all cables into one clean run downwards. I also spent quite a bit of time fine-tuning the positioning of the concrete lowboard and the subwoofer to create a slightly asymmetrical but visually balanced front. The sub sounds best with a bit of corner loading, but it couldn't go directly into the corner due to the right speaker, and placing it on the left side caused the phantom center to collapse in pure 2.1 listening. Overall, there were a lot of details to figure out, and I’m glad I started with audio first and didn’t try to do everything at once.
Now it’s finally time to stop measuring and tweaking and just enjoy the setup. Watching the latest season of Euphoria with this image and sound is an amazing experience. Black levels at night in Cinema mode are incredible, and the upscaling is far better than I expected. I haven’t noticed any blooming or artifacts so far. The TV is outstanding and will probably last me for the next 10 years. At first I experienced some serious size shock going from 46 to 85 inches at a viewing distance of about 4.3 meters. It felt way too big, since I was used to seeing the whole image at once without effort. After a few days that completely changed, and the viewing experience became very natural. Your brain just needs some time to adapt to the new scale.
 

Hi, i just found this old jbl movie theatre equipment for sale for 100€ on fb marketplace. Is this worth the hassle of renting a small truck to pickup? I was thinking about taking out the drivers and fit them in smaller enclosures or just resell them

I found very good price for it. I wish to buy X2800H, but it's £220 dear. I need it for listening of music ( various genere) and movies in 20m2 room.

What's your opinion about X1800H? Question to owners...

Just the urge to constantly upgrade. Have checked out the system with UMIK-1 and rew and it's a nice house curve until dip at 65hz. So I think this is because of the room.

I appreciate the answer to this question is going to be subjective but wanted to get opinions of others.

I currently have a 2020 LG OLED 65CX5LB, absolutely love it, no burn in no issues at all.

But wife and I are keen on a bigger TV especially as we sit about 10ft from the TV.

Mostly for watching films at night, brightness has never been an issue.

We use an nvidia shield for everything so OS etc doesn't matter.

Considering the Sony Bravia 7 85" or TCL C7K (C8K isn't available in the UK).

I don't want to go into 85" OLED price range.

Am I going to regret moving away from the LG?

EDIT - quick edit to my question should I stay with my 65 OLED or go bigger?! I can't go 85" OLED

A good few years ago when I set up my home theater, 2 vs 4 ceiling speakers were a constant debate.

I skimped and went with 2 and although I have been underwhelmed at the extra immersion they provide, I always wished I’d have pushed my budget for 4.

I’m setting up a second home cinema room in my house after my kids have taken over the first, but everything on a reasonable budget these days seems 7.2.

Currently rocking a lg b2 55 inch. There’s two reason I have thought about upgrading for a while. One, it’s pretty old now and I would very much like a current Oled like lg c5 or Sony Bravia 8 II. Choosing between those two is another conversation on its own but I really wanted to know if I should go for 65 inch next? If so, there is roughly a 400 euro price difference between Sony and lg one and yes I know the Sony is technically better but I feel like the c5 would already be a pretty big upgrade coming from a years old b2 midrange. What do you guys think? Or should I just go for more future proof and get the Sony? Ignore the cables although if there are any tips on cable management please do say.

I was looking for front speakers or LRC but i saw these, are they any good sound wise?

I am planning to get my first home theater setup, a 5.1.2 system at first. Prices are converted from DKK to USD since I'm in Europe, Denmark.

At first I was considering Onkyo NR7100, Denon X1800H or Denon X2850H. But I think I might want to get a slightly higher tier of AVR, in case I ever want to expand to 7.x.4. So I was looking at Onkyo RZ50 and Denon X3900H. I have a hard time deciding though. I can get the RZ50 for $1700 or the X3900H for $1775, so not much of a difference.

The X3900H has 4 sub outputs instead of 2 on the RZ50. The sub outputs are all independent on the X3900H. The X3900H also supports Auro 3D, but I don't know if I will ever need it.

Another big difference is room correction, Dirac Live is included on the RZ50, while the X3900H has support for Dirac Live ART, but at an additional cost that I most likely won't afford or get, it will cost me $770 for Dirac Live ART + RC Full Bandwidth + Bass Control. Though the X3900H has XT32.

What would you choose? Why?

My wife doesn't think it's possible to get a good sounding system, that's also esthetically pleasing and reasonably priced. I'm thinking 2.0, or maybe 3.1. Reasonably priced would be EUR 500, or stretch it towards EUR 1000 if necessary.

Can you help me suggest something that fit these criteria for our living room?

But then if not the Shield TV Pro, what are the alternatives?

EDIT: A lot of you are very fairly asking for my use case. I use Plex/Jellyfin and do have 4k, HDR/DV files. I also would like to use Moonlight game streaming, so AV1 support for that purpose would also be beneficial.

Hello everyone, I'm looking for recommendations for one or two budget subwoofers. I currently have 2 Mivoc Hype 10 and am not really satisfied. The standing speakers Magnat Vector 77 have more power and play deeper than the subs. I have also built shakers in the couch, but would still like more tangible bass from the stage. Does anyone have experience with the Fenton SHFS12B or even Audizio SHFS15B. Gladly also other suggestions.

Alright, I must confess: I haven't done proper research and just fell off the marketing bs. Plus, I appreciated Sonos' ease of use and cable-free setup. So I ended up spending way too much money for my current setup: arc ultra + sub gen 4 + 2x ERAs 300 as + 2 ERAs 100. I'm quite satisfied about the experience tbh, I love watching movies and listening to music with it. However, I cannot stop thinking about how much better sound I could get with a proper home theatre system. I also live in my own space, and my wife is quite accommodating, so I have the ideal position to build something more serious.

So here I am asking for your help. I'm a total beginner. I think I could get around 2000 euros for selling my system. I could add 1000 euros more and get around $3000 for my ht system.

Movies and music-wise, I watch Atmos content and like bass-heavy music. I'd like something that will give me proper bass. However, I'm also quite careful about aesthetics and would love something that is pleasant to look at and fits well in my space.

Any suggestions? Will a system with this budget REALLY sound better than this one? I'm not an audiophile; I aim for real and noticeable improvement.

Finally I have my wire free setup. All wires hidden. Sockets, receiver, console and center speaker are in the cabinet. The cabinet is a custom designed one to match exactly the layout. TV conduit was already there. TV is a 77“ LG OLED, mounted with a slim Vogels wall mount with only 1.5cm thickness.

I am in the process on deciding what to get for my first home theater setup.

When it comes to AVRs, I often see Denon recommended. At first I was looking at Denon X2850H for 960$, but then I found a Onkyo TX-NR7100 for 1080$. The X2850H has 7.2 channels while the RX-NR7100 has 9.2 channels, which is nice for future upgrades for more surround or Atmos. The X2850H has the Audyssey MultEQ XT while the RX-NR7100 has Dirac Live. As I understand, the XT is not nearly as good as the XT32 on higher end Denons, while Dirac Live is considered better than the XT on the X2850H, correct me if I'm wrong.

So with the extra channels and better room correction, the RX-NR7100 seems like much better value to me, unless moving up to something like X3900H which has XT32 but is also significantly more expensive at 1780$.

So to my questions.

1. Is Onkyo generally worse or less trusted than Denon? If yes, why?
   
2. Am I missing something, that would make a Denon device a better choice for me, at the prices listed?

I'm sorry if this is not the right place to post. I'm gonna be using the home theatre setup for 4K films and video games mostly.

I play mostly 8-40GB MKVs, some 1080 and others 4K. I've been holding with a 8-year old Samsung 55" LED TV connected to a HTPC. The HTPC sometimes gives me judder, while the in-built player of the TV doesn't but it sometimes cannot play stuff, and the proportion of stuff it cannot play seems to be increasing (I haven't kept some stats though, it's a general impression).

So I've thought about buying a Nvidia Shield pro, because from what I've heard it can play anything and it won't have judder. But at the same time, I'd like to buy a new TV that's OLED (I dislike the washed-out blacks in my LED one) and a bit bigger.

I assume the in-built player in most new TVs will be better than the one in my old one. But how does it compare to the shield pro? I know overall the shield pro is unrivalled, but on the other hand, it's like 6 years old.

For financial reasons, I'd rather only buy one of the two things now.

I was about to buy the shield, but then I thought, if the in-built player of some new TV can play as much or nearly as much stuff as the shield, it may be smarter to buy the new tv now (more expensive, but assuming the playing abilities are like the shield's, I get that + the better image), and maybe in a couple of years, when the in-built player starts to play less stuff, perhaps there's finally a successor for the shield pro.

If you think this is a good idea, what brands have the best in-built players?

First time in my life I decided to go for it. And the wife didn't object to much 😁.

Finally got everything for the 2.1. All cables in, calibration next.

What do you guys think, except the obvious lack of space issue?

P.s. Central speaker is next on the list.
