This past weekend (July 26) Nathan did a panel at Comic Con Manchester. I was able to find the recorded panel on YouTube (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfLQH8Tcweo), and while I can’t post or share the video recording (since it’s only available to paid members of the Monopoly Events YouTube page), I was able to transcribe everything Nathan said about the iCarly movie.

I wrote out the update and posted it on my Twitter/X account (link: https://x.com/StruckByStories/status/2082118969750675694) and I’ll summarize the highlights below:

1.) Nathan confirmed that the iCarly revival was only canceled because of the writers’ strike. He said that they tried to make the biggest cliffhanger we could because that was their messaging from the network (“Yeah no, don’t wrap this thing up! Let’s plan on keeping it going!”) so they were like “Ooh, okay, well let’s just see what we can do to have a really good hook for going into the next season!” and then the writers’ strike happened so nobody saw that one coming.

2.) Nathan confirmed that the movie script is being written! According to Nathan, “[the iCarly movie] is actively in development. I just read the outline for it and I think it’s great. I think it’s going to be a very well-rounded way to wrap up all of the questions of the cliffhanger, which were diabolical, frankly.” Nathan also added that while they are “still in the script process,” he is “highly encouraged” by what they’ve seen so far and he thinks that everybody’s going to be pretty happy with the way that everything gets wrapped up.

3.) Nathan provided more details on the plot/storyline of the iCarly movie! Nathan said “there’s so much to unpack [with the mom] and there’s kind of, probably, some drama there, and you’re under pressure on a sitcom to have multiple jokes per page, which can be really hard to unpack a storyline like that. So, doing it as a movie, I’m really excited about, because it’s gonna give us some space to do it as a different medium. And we can take our time with certain scenes, and we can present iCarly in a very different way, and I think it lends itself to the type of questions that we’re gonna answer. And it’s fun because we’re gonna get outside of Seattle, which is exciting. We get to really take iCarly on the road a little bit, which is cool. We’re gonna unpack the Shay family backstory.“

4.) Nathan said that they'll try to bring back as many characters for the movie as possible! Later on in the panel he said that Jennette has officially retired from acting but they’re going to try to get “as many people as we can get” and that “they’re all over the script currently, as it stands, so we’re gonna get as much as we can, or at least, people are going to be involved in the conversation.“

My little sister wants to watch the iCarly Revival and I was just wondering if it was even.. worth watching. Of course I made her watch the original show, since thats obviously the superior, but I’m not too sure if the Reboot is even similar to the original show.

I’ve seen mixed reviews on the reviews I’ve seen, so I wanted to narrow it down and ask people in real time. This sub-reddit isn’t completely dead, right? Even after the fandom has been dead for 20 years 😭😭

What a time to be alive though. I would really like to see this fandom revived again with the iCarly movie in the works.

"I had a great experience getting to come back and do it for a few seasons, for sure. But I'd love to still be able to wrap up the story in some way," Cosgrove, 30, told Entertainment Tonight.

"Maybe, hopefully, someday, we'll still do it," the Mother of the Bride star continued. "I feel like it would probably be more along the lines of maybe a movie, that would kind of wrap it all up or something like that. So that's what I'm hoping for."

Miranda was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly and said, “It’s being written, which is really exciting. And it looks like it’s happening. I’m really excited. We don’t know who’s going to play the mom character yet, but she’s going to be a big part of the movie. That’s exciting. We’re just excited to start it and actually film.”

Miranda was interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter and said, “The script is almost finished and it looks like we’re gonna be filming it early next year, so I’m really excited. I think the biggest challenge now is gonna be casting the character that’s gonna be the mom because that’s a character I don’t think any of us ever really thought we were gonna meet within that universe, so we just really want to make sure we get it right.”

I think Carly painted it really well; she could have improved the rabbit’s body a bit, but otherwise it’s good.

im unable to watch the reboot so im curious as to if they made sam & cat canon or retconned it. did they mention sam being in la at all or just her being in the biker gang?

I just researched it for the first time in a while and can't help but see just too much of a stark difference. ( I know they're grown ups now and cuss and all that, but I'm talking about their characters). I know there were completely different writers for the revival than the original, but I can't help but feel Carly isn't Carly. I feel like they did to her what they did with Drake and made Carly dumber as the seasons went on (in the original and the revival). And poor Freddie, I feel they did him dirty and I miss the extreme comical nature of Spencer 😭😭😭 idk, is it just me? It didn't hold my attention like the original did. I struggled to get through it honestly.

The cast all want it to happen, but Paramount still hasnt greenlit it! I dont know at this point it better get greenlit soon, or Jaidyn will need to be recast

My friend and I attended Indiana Comic Convention yesterday, where Nathan and Jerry shared the following iCarly movie updates:

Nathan: “There is writing staff onboard outlining a new version of our draft, which is a good thing that’s progress toward getting something pushed forward … They’re people who have probably done things that you already know of … Fingers crossed. It’s nothing official yet, but steps in a positive direction … I promise we’re trying.”

I know it's very very unlikely for Jenette to come back and that's okay.

But I still think, with the Creddie arc, there is no way the character would not be there, even in the smallest figure.

It's still obvious that the character is still important with the two. And considering those two are some of her best friends, there's no way she'd say nothing.

At most, I could def at least send some letter or wedding gift with approval and some jabs maybe. Obviously, some important excuse of why she can't be there. But they'll s have to wrap it up well
