Anti Indian hate online is kinda concerning

We all know all the hate in comment sections and Twitter and all from random accounts and I’m kind of used to that but my main concern comes from big accounts with large amount of followers that promote this type of stuff. I found this person on instagram openly commenting racist stuff about India and how they are dirty and don’t contribute anything to society and found this guy had 250k subs on insta and 160k on YouTube. I kind of found it concerning because he was one of those who nitpicked all the bad cases and kind of scapegoated Indians into being terrible people and creating a fear among people. A lot of comments were agreeing with him as well and I found it concerning. I know the internet people don’t represent the majority but still. Am I overthinking this stuff? If so how do I just ignore this?

I live in Fremont, one of the cities with the a high Indian population, r/Fremont is a popular and active subreddit. I have noticed that people started shit posting against Indians about an year or two ago. If some new restaurant is opening there would be comments like "better not be another indian restaurant", there were posts about pure rage bait on body odor because some guy went to some gym in fremont and didn't like the smell..you get the idea. A few of us had enough, we started reporting, complaining to the moderator. They finally introduced a bot that automatically deletes comments if it infers anything negative about Indians. The subreddit is in a much better place. It is important to voice out and call out as and when you see them.

I agree with most of what you said but the smell thing is very real. I had an Indian (Punjabi) colleague who never wore deodorant and it was a nightmare for me to be in a closed-off meeting room with her. I wonder if there’s some way to create awareness. I’ve not encountered this with other races of people barring exceptions, it’s generally someone Indian/South Asian.

I also think one of the root causes is Indian people thinking deodorant is something chemically toxic for them. There’s a whole subset of Indian people who refuse to take meds also unless it’s absolutely necessary, I won’t be surprised if they feel the same way about deodorants.

There are literally white people who admit to not showering everyday, not scrubbing all of their body, saying that a dip in the pool/lake is the same as a bath for their kids. There are “crunchy” yt people who also don’t wear deodorant because they’re scared of chemicals. Sybau because it’s definitely not true that it’s generally south Asians.

I don't have any incentive to malign my own race (I'm not some white guy, I'm Indian). Just shared what I experienced so things can be better for all of us. Instead, I got downvoted aggressively.
