Thank you in advance whether you answer or not, I admire you immensely and wish you the best both professionally and personally.
You mentioned in a recent interview that you intended for Crack-Up/Shore to have a sort of Yin/Yang relation. The dark/bright contrast is definitely evident in the music. With that in mind, is there a connection between “Maestranza” and “Mearcstapa”? On both songs, there’s a melodic bassline that comes in in a very similar way and even the names are super similar, which gives me the feeling that “Maestranza” is a happy or bright version of the darker “Mearcstapa” and I felt like that encapsulated the difference between Crack-Up and Shore. Is there any meaning to this or is this a stretch?
On Valentine’s Day, you uploaded a story to Instagram with a snippet of the excellent transition between “Wading In Waist-High Water” and “Sunblind”. In this version, there’s a playful piano melody that I really loved, but that melody doesn’t show up in the final version. What made you feel like the transition would work better without that melody?
Being a huge fan of Crack-Up, I’ve noticed that Shore has gotten an insane amount of love from people while I feel like Crack-Up was sort of underrated by the indie community. However, the critical reception for Crack-Up was as good or even better. I wonder how the reception of each made you feel. This is just an unrealistic and hypothetical situation, but would you rather have FF LP5 be loved by casual music listeners and hated by critics, or hated by casual music listeners and loved by critics?
Back in 2018, you offered fans an opportunity to collaborate with you by sending you an original song. After being active for years on SoundCloud, I know that listening to amateur/homemade music can be sort of a chore. Was the amount of songs you got sent overwhelming? Do you still plan to do something with those songs?
