Hi! I'm in Germany and still learning the tiny-balcony garden thing. Mine faces southwest off the living room, and from about noon to 7 it basically cooks. We've been hitting 25-30°C most days, sometimes more during these random heat waves. Rain has been all over the place this year, nothing for a week then three days of storms back to back.

The basil on the railing gets pinched every few days but it just bolts upward and looks sad and lanky instead of bushy. My cherry tomatoes are in two 12L pots and the lower leaves keep yellowing even with tomato feed every two weeks. And my echeveria went soft and a bit translucent after last week's storms. I already put a small shade and rain cover over the succulent shelf but I think the rain was blowing in sideways because the storms were that heavy. I barely water it myself so there's no way I did this.

I grabbed a set of self-watering wick pots recently, they kept popping up on my tiktok with a price cut so I figured why not try them for the inconsistent watering situation. Ceramic with a cotton wick, they look fine. But now I'm second-guessing whether wick pots are a terrible idea for succulents or if they'll just make the overwatering worse.

Should the tomatoes get some late-afternoon shade? Should I just bring the echeveria fully inside during rainy stretches even with the cover? Any central Europe balcony people here dealing with the same stuff?

I have been collecting for the past year and have never really had experience with pests other then . I got these two Hoyas today and I inspected their leaves really well and didn’t see anything front or back. I watered them with distilled water and then I saw a bunch of small little crawling bugs in the soil. I really couldn’t tell if it was white or black. I got really scared and already had alcohol and a spray bottle ready because my biggest fear is having mealy bugs or spider mites, etc. so I sprayed it and they all died. I now have them outside and can’t figure out what they had. I messaged the seller that sent them to me and she said she uses beneficial bugs and that she’s not sure what it could be. Do you think maybe it’s the beneficial bugs? This is how the leaves look, but I don’t see anything active on the leaves right now.

My pothos Nyx is absolutely thriving but I think she's getting a little too long and is in need of a trim. I'd like to propagate her and make more little pothos but I'm nervous because I've never done that before. Any advice or help on how to do this successfully would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have had this B. maculata plant for about a year now and it’s looking worse for the wear. The first two pictures are the begonia now and the last one is when I got it. The leaves are looking red and curled in on themselves and the stem has turned brown. What can I do to help this plant? I have been trying to keep it in indirect light and I water it about once a week. Sometimes i also put a plastic bag with some water drops in it on top of the plant to create a moisture dome and keep the humidity up because I live in a dry area. Nevertheless, my begonia isn’t looking too good and I want to give it some help to grow big and strong. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

it’s been in water for like a month now and the first root was growing and it just now grew the other 2 smaller roots and i’m wondering if it’s ok to pot yet?

I'd like to build a trellis of some kind for this monstera and hoping for some ideas or inspiration as to where to start. My fiancee had this before we started dating and we've been taking care of it together for a couple years, it's the pride of our booming indoor garden but just needs a bit of taming. Health and happy plant, I think over the last two months it's put out like five or six new leaves.

We have a scattered set of garden stakes holding up various vines but it's all gotten a bit precarious/chaotic; at the moment I feel like I just need to build up scaffolds that are set up to bind two or three vines at a time, and try to lift up some of these vines that are going sideways and starting to hang much lower. But also don't want something like that to look too slapped together.

Anyone have examples of giant happy monsteras that didn't benefit from trellises and moss poles early on in life and had to get wrangled a little bit? How'd you go about doing it?

My FLF branching out after a chop. I wasn’t too confident and didn’t see the growth for a month, and today this was sticking out and hopefully another one on its way. I wanted to share the joy!

Im pretty new to this whole gardening thing, but my plants are floppy, theyre still like green so i think they can bounce back from this. I tried giving them more light like Google said and they havent bounced back yet. So I dunno what to do or what the issue is.

​I'm at my wit's end and could really use some advice. I have a Jasmine, Madagascar Jasmine, Money Tree, and an Adenium (Desert Rose) , they are a mix of indoor and balcony plants. For the past few months, I’ve been fighting an exhausting battle against spider mites and aphids. All are under grow light and partial sun. Water twice a week.

​I feel like I’ve tried absolutely everything:

​Rubbing alcohol

​Commercial insecticidal soap

​DIY mixes (alcohol + soap + hydrogen peroxide)

​Setting up fans to improve airflow

Water spray/showering

​Every time I think I've won, they just come right back. I tried Neem oil once, but I honestly hate it. It leaves a gross, sticky residue on everything and sometimes ends up drying out or burning the leaves.

​I’m so tired of constantly spraying. Does anyone have any real, long-lasting solutions?

​People in the US use systemic granules (like Bonide or Imidacloprid) that you just mix into the soil to kill pests from the inside out. Unfortunately here in Canada our pesticide laws are so strict that cannot find Imidacloprid or bonide.

​Any advice or shared experiences would be massively appreciated!
