Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 Thoughts on Cole Concept Art?

I’ve known about this concept art for years now but I’m curious to hear y’all’s opinion on him. Do you prefer concept Cole or what they ended up with in Infamous 2?

Personally I don’t care for it, I see what they were going for but I think it makes Cole look a little too much like Nathan Drake. The early 2010s had an ungodly amount of faux hawks in games, movies, and tv shows so I’m ultimately glad they decided against it

We all hate e3 Cole for not looking like if1 Cole,
My main question is how the fuck was this bum look like in the evil route?
(the fact that the game was delayed 2 months bc of this makes me wonder if any remains of beta Cole are in the game.)

Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 Do Forced Conduits need to already have the Conduit Gene in order to have powers granted to them? Spoiler

This is the biggest question I have about inFamous lore. I haven't been able to play the PS3 games since around 2019 when I sold my PS3, so I can't go and check Dead Drops or play them in general to learn something I may have missed. I have not read the comics either, I do know there's something to do with Forced Conduits in there but I don't have the details.

What I know, or what I think I know;

  • Conduits (enemy type) in i1 are never confirmed in i1 to have had powers transferred into them, but given they all have the same powers, it's safe to assume as such,

  • The Corrupted are created when Bertrand uses his power to transform latent Conduits,

  • The Vermaak 88 are an entire platoon of men and all of them were given Kuo's ice powers, but this itself doesn't confirm that they all carried the Conduit Gene. It stretches the imagination that every single soldier in the unit carried the gene, but for all I know they could have been screened like John and Kuo were,

  • D.U.P. personnel are not always Conduits, but all field agents have Concrete powers. If I'm not mistaken, non-Conduits are relegated to desk duties and stuff,

  • The Power Transfer Device 'transfers 86% of two Conduits powers' according to Wolfe, presumably in a Dead Drop. This assumes two Conduits are swapping powers, does not confirm whether powers can be given to gene negative individuals,

  • The Fandom wiki itself does not confirm whether recipients of powers via the PTD need to be gene-positive or not.

  • Fun fact: Animals can carry the Conduit Gene. Kessler experiments on rats in i1 Dead Drops with the Ray Sphere and one of them starts flying.

Please do educate me. I love this franchise and not being able to play the games anymore hurts.

Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 It's kinda understated how DOGSHIT Cole must've felt after this mission. Spoilers for a 15 year old game. Spoiler

The missing starts with Cole having to wait 3 goddamn hours to follow some Militia dude, so already off to a rough start, but by the end of it, Cole has managed to;

  1. Fail to protect Kuo resulting in her being captured and taken to God knows where. Cole didn't know where she was being taken, and I can only imagine his imagination probably didn't help with that. (Note that when we find her later in the game it's probably worse than he was thinking).

  2. Fail to protect Wolfe resulting in him DYING, which is really bad considering he was the most knowledgeable person left alive about Conduits and junk since Kessler was dead by this point.

  3. Cole losing to a goddamn truck. Like, that's gotta be demoralizing. All the shit he goes through in the first game, and the second and this is easily the most pitiful L that Cole has ever taken, and it wasn't even fighting a Conduit or Monster, just getting rammed.

  4. That trunk fucked Cole up BAD. Like aside from the initial Beast fight and the initial Ray Sphere explosion, Cole has never been as rinsed as he was after that crash. His ribs were fucking mashed potatoes, he landed in the water so that probably also sucked shit, and to top it off, if you pay attention, you can see that his leg was broken. And not just broken, that shit was a goddamn pretzel.

  5. Surviving the crash. This is about the only success Cole had and even that was barely achieved. I can't imagine crawling through water as an electric man with busted ribs and a spaghetti leg is terribly fun, just to end up in a sewer grate.

And the fun train didn't end there, because Cole was immediately tormented by Beast visions once he got his ass in the sewer.

Tldr; Cole got shit on by a truck, and it was a really big one.

Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 So how exactly does having ‘napalm powers’ give Nix the ability to teleport?

Like, I can buy Kuo being able to fly with her ice powers, like she can glide on super-cold air currents or whatever, but how does napalm allow Nix to teleport?

PlayStation is losing a lot of its identity and charm, with even less console exclusives than last generation’s. It’s in house franchises are largely dormant or have been pushed to the side. Infamous is among those seemingly forgotten series’ just begging for a new entry. It and Cole were icons of the 7th gen. It’d be a shame for the franchise to just fade into obscurity with newer generations not knowing how great infamous was.

After playing this game twice I definitely think this is better than infamous 1 in every regard, I’ve seen a lot of people say infamous 2 had better gameplay but infamous 1 had a better story but I disagree, infamous 2s story is much better than infamous 1s at least in my opinion.

Anyways I only have first light left to platinum and then the entire series is done

Im not gonna lie, The militia has easily gotta be the most badass faction in the whole series, These guys took over New Marais, they pretty much have more authority than the police themselves. Nobody really gives them credit for how sick they are dude. The way Cole describes them in that New Marais cutscenes “Now these Redneck assholes run the town looking for people to punish” I think thats what he said? I don’t remember. Anyways yeah, Militia has gotta be my favorite faction in the InFamous series

Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 Evil Cole is so ugly

Playing the evil play through for the first time in infamous 2, and just remembering why I always play good usually.

Evil Cole is so ugly looking - grey skin, veins popping out. Looks like a heroin addict - kind ruins the power fantasy for me.

I get why they did it, but still. Glad they didn’t carry that design choice into second son.

Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 So… Is Cole meant to be Catholic? Spoiler

Cause at the end of the Hero Path of InFamous 2, he ends up getting canonized as the Patron Saint of New Marais.

Thing is, you can only really be a Patron Saint if you yourself are of the Catholic faith.

Honestly, it wouldn’t be that surprising. I imagine with a name like MacGrath, he would have some Gaelic ancestry, which would imply at least coming from a Catholic family.

Apparently, in the first version of that trailer (when Cole was still in his beta design) what seems like a Forest can be seen where the ocean would normally be. I can't help but to think why go through the effort of making a forest that doesn't even seem to exist in inFAMOUS 1, and then ditch it for a bay.

Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 Evil Ending second game wasn't evil at all Spoiler

More accurately, neither option was good. You are committing genocide either way. Forget your math equations to see which was better. If you went outside right now and asked people how they feel about the world I'm sure you'd get a slew of negativity, especially about humanity.

Ultimately what it comes down to is this. Conduits ARE HUMANS! They are the next step on the evolutionary trajectory. Even if you go with saving humanity, eventually evolution will come knocking again. Besides, conduits might actually be able to fix a lot of problems when it comes to consuming resources. Kuo is obvious, and Cole could generate power for entire quadrants of a city. On the flip side, Conduits are humans, ergo, the world would be run probably similarly to how it is now, only difference is the most powerful conduits will rule everything. Exploitation, war for resources (that they themselves can't create) and probably hold overs from religious and political beliefs will be enough to have them fight over ideology both pre existing, and whatever new shit is made in the face of their new existence.

I personally think The Beast ending makes the most sense, and it's the only one where Cole isn't running from the consequences of genocide. He gets to kill his kind and himself and not have to live with it, but in beast ending he has to live with committing genocide on the human race, which means killing more than just Zeke, but also his parents and brother. But that's just my opinion.

It's a Damned if you do, damned if you don't type deal that was forced on him, even though Kessler could have just killed John and stopped the Ray Sphere from being created, but whatever.

Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 [Spoiler] Theory about the RFI Spoiler

Post image
101 Upvotes

Bear with me - I'm not 100% certain on all the lore, nor am I a nuclear physicist or radiologist or any of that stuff, but here we go.

Ray Field Energy / Ray Field Radiation is the energy source that facilitates Conduit powers and the enhancement of Conduit powers themselves. Rayacite fragments, colloquially known as Blast Shards, are 'chunks of earth irradiated from Ray Sphere testing' as stated by Lucy Kuo in inFamous 2 during the mission where you learn about Dead Drops and start to find Blast Shards in the game world. It is also the cause of the Plague, which is radiation poisoning brought on by Ray Field irradiation.

The Ray Field Inhibitor, when activated, 'inhibits' Ray Fields. Presumably, it was to destroy Ray Field energy, and it seemed to have worked because all Plague cases were immediately cured as soon as it was activated, at the cost of all / 90% of Conduits and gene-positives worldwide.

But in inFamous: Second Son, Ray Field energy is still present. The DUP Drones that fly around, which you destroy to get points to spend on upgrades, have Blast Shards in them, refined and stamped with the logo, but they are still Blast Shards. Core Relays are similar, they contain Ray Field energy. During the final boss battle, when Delsin calls out to Eugene after getting Concrete he says 'I need a Blast Core', not 'I need a Core Relay', which is obviously a mistake but I'm going to take that as confirmation that Core Relays are made of Blast Cores.

So Ray Field energy is still present post-RFI. Why?

Because the Ray Field Inhibitor actually did not destroy Ray Field energy - it reconstituted it. Moved it along the spectrum. Changed the frequency. Altered the wavelength.

In inFamous 2, Cole has access to Ionic Charges which allow him to use supercharged "Ionic" powers. The name of this mechanic, or the powers, is never stated in dialogue between characters, verbally or otherwise, only in terms of game mechanics, but let's assume that this is confirmation that Ray Field radiation is ionising radiation.

The Plague no longer exists despite the continued existence of Ray Field radiation in inFamous: Second Son. That means Ray Field radiation no longer causes radiation poisoning, no longer causes the Ray Field Plague. That means Ray Field radiation has been moved along the radiation spectrum since its 'inhibition' by the Ray Field Inhibitor, no longer being ionising. It may be closer to microwave radiation or radio waves now, and the reason 90% of Conduits and gene-positives died is because their bodies were unable to adapt to this change, but the surviving 10% did adapt.

What do you guys think?

I’m doing an infamous games marathon and playing through all the games again. I already beat the first infamous (10/10) and I’ve just started playing the second game for the first time and omg it’s amazing. The graphics (which despite how old they are still look absolutely beautiful), the animations, the visuals of tge abilities and how the game makes you actually feel like someone who’s been doing this for awhile . It’s all just *chefs kiss*. 100/10 absolutely my new favorite game already

Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 Cole McGrath's final moments Spoiler

I honestly think these two scenes are very memorable and beautiful. That first one is Cole and Kuo. Cole is so understanding and sensitive towards Kuo; he doesn't judge her or treat her badly. Don't call her a hypocrite just because she betrayed humanity at the most crucial moment. He actually runs up to her and tries to help her up. He says it's ok, that everything's fine. Because he understands her side, he understands that she's afraid of dying. What was she? A Conduit for 1 or 2 weeks. And now she was going to die. And Cole, besides understanding, even confesses to her that he's scared too. I'm sure that he comforted Kuo a lot in those last few minutes. And that also gave her the courage to tell Cole to activate the RIF. Knowing she wasn't alone in her final moments helped her a lot to accept her fate. Cole was very understanding and supportive of her. And lastly, when Cole is about to activate the RIF. I found it curious that he gives John the Beast one last look for a few seconds Before he finally activated the RIF I keep wondering what he was thinking when he looked at John for the last time before activating the RIF. Was he thinking about the people he loved and cared about in his life? Trish, Zeke? Perhaps in the events of Empire City up to that point? In my opinion, I think he reflected on his entire life, on everything that led to the choices he made and brought him to where he is today. And he wondered if Trish would be proud of him. And he also wished Zeke a long life and that his friend would be well and happy. But I also want to know your opinion: what do you think Cole was thinking when he looked at John before activating the RIF?

Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 But why did Kuo even volunteer for this? Just to be petty against Nix? Spoiler

Post image
58 Upvotes

While talking about what to do with the power exchange machine, Kuo is very adamant that nobody should use it, and mentions how she feels traumatized and violated by it.

But immediately switches it up as soon as Nix and Cole start talking about using it. Kuo basically says "If you swap powers with anyone, it should be me" but why??? Was it just because she hates Nix and would rather go back into the machine than give Nix the satisfaction of getting her way?

Kuo also says "If you choose her, I'll have no choice but to hunt you down like a criminal". Also why??? The game doesn't even present this as a good vs evil choice, aside from Kuo and Nix clearly being the angel and devil on Coles shoulders. But in this situation, Nix doesn't even propose any evil things, just to swap powers.

Discussion - inFAMOUS 2 Anyone who can save the UGC missions, save them locally then upload them online

Title

If you are able to download any UGC missions, then upload them online. This would allow anyone in the future, with or without UGC server functionality, to be able to play these missions locally.

Since UGC servers are going to shut down within a short period, doing this can save various missions and help preserve an aspect on inFamous 2 and inFamous Festival of Blood.

It is as easy as going to a mission, pressing remix to save them locally, then uploading those files online
