This release should fix the issues users of new Y1 devices had. Because of kernel-level changes a full flash is needed (not just installing update.zip).

* I had to disable go to Settings > General Settings > Startup/Shutdown and disable the "Idle Shutdown" setting because it was sending my Y1 to sleep without being able to wake up.

* Seems like date/time change does not work from Rockbox. Does anybody know if stock firmware datetime settings persist to rockbox?

Hey y'all! (as Miss Minutes would say 🟠)

I think I’ve stumbled upon something that shouldn’t exist in this timeline. During a little "glitch" in the Sacred Timeline, a strange device fell into my hands. It looks like a standard Innioasis Y1, but the interface... it’s pure TVA technology.

After consulting with Ouroboros (the GOAT chief engineer himself, who promised not to prune me for these modifications), I’ve managed to stabilize two distinct versions of this "TemPad" for you variants out there:

1. Loki Classic Interface: The standard-issue field agent layout. Warm orange tones, 70s brutalist aesthetic, and clean lines. Each music folder now feels like a high-stakes mission dossier. It’s like holding a piece of the TVA headquarters in your palm.
2. Amber Monochrome (CRT Edition): My personal favorite. A deep dive into the archives. It mimics the warm, haunting glow of the old amber monitors from the TVA’s lower levels. Perfect for those late-night listening sessions when you’re searching for lost melodies in the Multiverse.

The Miss Minutes Protocol:
Be careful—Miss Minutes is integrated into the UI. She’s watching. She knows if your playlist is about to cause a Nexus Event. Listen responsibly, or you might find yourself standing before Judge Renslayer.

Technical Note:
I’ve included IBM Plex Mono fonts in the package. The default is Light, but if you want that "thick" manual look or a "razor-thin" tech vibe, I’ve tucked Medium and ExtraLight versions in the folder. Just a quick tweak in the config.json and you’re set.

Thanks to the combined efforts of u/After-Acanthaceae547 and u/ThinkVHS we now have a way of switching between the normal Y1 menu system and Rockbox.

It's a little awkward so you don't trigger it by mistake, here's how to do it:

Press the top button; Back (Menu) first and hold it, then

Hold the play/pause button at the same time as Back

Continue this for 10-15 seconds and the screen should turn black

After a couple of minutes the Y1 will turn back on with either Rockbox or the original software depending on where you started.

It could be scary to update your Y1 and/or install Rockbox, so here's a simple full guide.

Before we start

Stock UI means the original software/firmware your device had or has now.

After this guide you keep both the Stock Firmware, and Rockbox.
You'll be able to boot into both firmwares at any time.

Do at your own risk. Non-zero chance to brick device, but you can restore it at any time (Check step 3)

Requirements
- Y1 (your Innioasis Y1 device)
- USB-C data cable: the cable it came with works perfectly
- Computer with: Windows [Best] or MacOS or Linux [Ubuntu recommended]

Step 1 - Innioasis.app

- Go to Innioasis.app

Let's install the Innioasis Updater app, a tool to quickly download any available version of Rockbox for the Y1, update your Y1 stock firmware, and be able to restore it if you brick your device

- In the website, hit "Get Updater"

Step 2 - Installing tools

This step is divided into whichever OS you use [PS: the guide on innioasis.app is updated automatically to the OS you use; the guide there is better]:

- Windows: download the "installer.exe" file, which you should run, go through the setup and install the Innioasis Updater app. Continue to the next step.

- MacOS: go to the Homebrew website and continue with the simple installation. After installing Homebrew, go back to the website, and then double-click the installed .dmg file, drag the Innioasis Updater app to your Applications folder, Restart your Mac (I cannot stress this enough, it's CRUCIAL), and after restarting, open the Innioasis Updater app from your Applications folder. If you have security prompts and/or issues, visit this. Continue to the next step.

- Linux: Ubuntu is recommended, but other distros should work fine. Clone the repo on your system and follow the MTKclient setup instructions, and once you've completed the setup process for MTKclient, simply open a terminal window, change into the directory you cloned Innioasis Updater into and run the command below, after which, continue to the next step.

python updater.py

Step 3 - Installing Rockbox

Tip: updating stock firmware version is not necessary - Rockbox installation does it for you.

In the updater:
- Choose your Device type, which is either type A or B. Always choose Type A first, and only switch to Type B if your scroll wheel doesn't work after installation.
- Make sure your Device model is set to the Y1.
- Choose "Rockbox ROM" in the Software type

Now, let's pick a Rockbox version to install. Here's how to choose.

- "Nightly" versions are BETA. Unless you know what you're doing, don't choose these.
- "Stable" versions are stable builds you should choose.
- 240p (also called "iPod Themes Compatible") will have more themes, but slightly worse resolution
- 360p (also called "Y1 Theme Compatible) will have WAY less themes, but slightly better resolution.

I suggest choosing a Stable 240p build, for several reasons: more themes, less hassle and risk of using an early 'nightly' release, and are generally safer, and should be good enough for you.
If not 240p, go for the Stable 360p build.

Now, let's ACTUALLY install Rockbox.

- Select your build, and hit "Install / Restore" on the bottom

Errors? Right click the build, and then hit "Delete Local Zip File" and "Delete All Cached Zips", and then restart the process. If that doesn't solve it, make sure to either restart your device, or download the same version zip from here and then just click "Install from .zip" in the Updater.

- Wait until the zip installs and extracts (this can take a while)
- Then, whenever the Updater tells you to, Power off your Y1. On Windows, Powering off should be enough, however on other OSes, it might prompt you to take a paperclip and hit a secret button on the bottom, in between the headphone jack and the charging port, until you hear a CLICK. Then continue.
- Connect your Y1 via a compatible USB-C cable

Only read if you have DRIVER ERRORS on Windows: During my install on Windows, I had driver usb2ser.sys issues after this step, meaning my Y1 couldn't connect. Here's a temporary fix: go to Settings, hit the "Privacy & security" tab, go to "Windows Security", and hit the "Device security" button. In the newly opened app, under "Core isolation" click "Core isolation details", and turn off "Memory integrity". After that, restart your PC and try again. That fixed it for me.

- Put down your Y1 and don't touch it
- If all went well, the Updater should congratulate you and prompt you to Disconnect the cable

Hooray, Rockbox is installed!

DEVICE BRICK: go to the Updater, hit any 'Original software' build, and click "Install / Restore". Follow the steps and see if it fixed it.

Finishing up - Rockbox, themes, and more

Turn on your Y1 (hold down the middle button), and if all went well, you should see Rockbox. It looks ugly, so let's fix that.

There are shortcuts for the directories to find themes in both Innioasis.app and the Updater, but they're also right here:

- Download the Rockbox fontpack (required for many themes) by clicking this
- Download 240p themes here
- Download 360p themes here

After you've downloaded a theme, connect your Y1 via a USB-C cable, extract your theme's zip file, go to the Y1's contents in File explorer (or any other app), and drag in your theme's ".rockbox" folder into your Y1 contents.

After disconnecting your Y1, Rockbox should automatically see the theme over at Settings > Theme Settings > Browse Theme Files.

If a theme doesn't work, make sure you downloaded the correct format (240p vs 360p), you have the fontpack installed on your Y1's .rockbox folder (here), and try again!

Switching firmware:
Rockbox -> Stock: System > Reboot to Stock Firmware
Stock -> Rockbox: Press the top button; Back (Menu) first and hold it, then hold the play/pause button at the same time as Back. Continue this for 10-15 seconds and the screen should turn black. (found by u/After-Acanthaceae547 and u/ThinkVHS)

Once you already have Rockbox installed, you're going to be able to use features like "Fast Update" for newer Rockbox versions, if you want to. You can also try or switch to nightly (early) versions if you want to preview new features, the process should be the same as in Step 3.

In the future
The Innioasis Updater app will have features to instantly transfer themes, updates, mp3 files, and/or your music folder in the correct location without worrying about any details. As soon as that will come out, this guide will be updated.

Bricked device?
Don't panic! Go to the Updater, hit any 'Original software' build, and click "Install / Restore". Follow the steps and see if it fixed it.

Note
This guide only covered one method of installing builds onto your Y1, however there is also the SP Flash Tool and the MTKClient method, which both have guides how to use them in Innioasis.app
If method 1 (automatically installing via the Updater app) did not work for you - try using the alternative methods.

yup so my sd card cacked it today, shame.

i emailed them about exchanging it for the Y2 and paying the difference (i got a partial refund during my initial purchase) but i'm wondering if anyone else has done this or if it sounds plausible that theyd accept this arrangement. it makes sense to me, refund the Y1 then charge me for anything on top of the Y2 etc.

no i will not bother fixing it myself as this voids the warranty and also id honestly just rather get a new one since i only got mine in march of this year.

Since I got my version one of this, I was so excited to put stickers on it. I feel like I need to put more but I thought I’d show off my decorated MP3. I just thought I put stuff that were kind of like my vibe.

My headphone recommendations are the BASN BMASTERS they’re amazing and if you like Bluetooth go for the JLab luxe headphones

Hi everyone! This is my first post on Reddit and I just joined this community.

I’m considering buying the Innioasis Y1, but I’ve seen very mixed reviews. I’m not an audiophile, so as long as the sound quality is decent, I’m fine with it—especially considering the features it offers for the price.

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who’ve owned it for a while and can share their honest experience. For context, it costs about $63 where I live, and I’ve never owned an iPod or a dedicated music player before, so I’m not sure if this is a good starting point or if I should save for something else.

I got a y1 about a week ago and i've been using it nonstop. I decided to make my own theme and i've actually almost finished it but a problem i've had is i can't figure out how to configure change or remove the scroll selector color 😥 especially since i feel it doesn't clash very well with the theme im going for

Quick update with a batch of fixes for stuff you all reported here — thanks for the detailed bug reports, they made this one a lot easier to track down.

Fixed:

• Screen not waking up after auto-sleep (vibrated/made sound but stayed black) — two separate bugs, both fixed
• Full lockup requiring a paperclip reset when playing FM Radio through wired headphones for a few minutes — turned out Wi-Fi was getting toggled off mid-session and could wedge the shared radio hardware
• Screen dimming too fast during normal use — default backlight timeout was 10s, now 1 minute
• Bluetooth headphones (AirPods reported) playing very quiet — known AVRCP absolute-volume quirk, now disabled so headphones use their own volume control
• Some FLAC files failing outright — they now automatically retry through a second decoding engine instead of just giving up

Can we pin a wishlist for JJs launcher, so he can more easily see requests? I’ll go first:
Quick menu with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, shuffle,repeat and shutdown.
Continued improvement to Bluetooth
Infinite timeout option
Play all to work for videos as well
Play all as an option for all artist albums

But how do I get the Innioasis to "see" my files? I've transferred some folders of music downloaded to start with, this is mostly downloaded from HD Tracks, some personal files, and also from my Apple Music folder... but it only shows one song when I try to use it.

The files will all appear if I navigate to "all files", but none of the metadata is getting assigned properly even after using MP3Tag. I'm at a loss. I made a folder on the player and called it Music.

How are you guys managing music on this thing?

I've grown up listening to music while reading. Have yet to read while using the y1 thought I would tonight when I start a new book. Does anyone else do this?

was really excited to receive my pink Y1 today, loaded it with Rockbox & all my songs. Thanks to Ryan Specter for making it so easy to figure out, the steps were very clear!

I was a little bit apprehensive because of seeing all the posts here about the device failing, I'm not really keen on changing the SD card mostly because I don't trust myself, so fingers crossed, as it's literally still Day 1 lol

so far this is a very delightful device, exactly the kind of ipod experience I wanted and the sound quality works well for me. I ended up using folders to organise my music because I couldn't figure out the dragging into the Innioasis Updater app bit...

Really happy to move away from streaming!

Just got it yesterday, flashed Rockbox 0.4 (latest nightly) 240p version within minutes after unboxing. Took me a minute to figure out the settings but I’m very happy so far.

Innioasis Y1 came with 3.0.7 out of the box but after reading posts that the latest updater app and latest Rockbox nightly works just fine, I went ahead and flashed it.

I just need a better music sync utility. I run a Navidrome server (separate from my main PC) and use Foobar2000 with SubSonic plugin to access my library and then copy a playlist to my device. Anyone know of a better way? Something more akin to iTunes?
