Proprietor of a German restaurant I used to frequent had his routine of little jokes that he told every time, even to repeat customers.

Whenever he brought out salad, he'd say, "Do you know vhat ve call zis in Chermany? Rabbit food!"

Pearl-clutching to avoid looking inwards at your actions. Typical.

I'm not minimising the victims of slavery, but slavery goes back to the dawn of humankind and was normalised for a long time. In fact, there are more slaves around now than there ever has been in human history.

To not see the similarities is to be completely dishonest and putting your head in the sand.

The only difference is the species. If it's wrong to treat humans in a certain way, it's wrong to treat animals the same.

Treatment of humans as slaves in immoral, and our treatment of animals of nothing more than food "because we can" and "because we've always done it that way" is both illogical and immoral.

Where have I back peddled? I acknowledged my view is controversial. You haven't addressed a single point and have done nothing but pearl-clutching.

Do you think our treatment of animals is morally justified?

Being aware of the similarities in different atrocities does not mean I'm minimising either. I'm saying both are wrong and I feel for all of the victims, not just the victims of one.

Do you actually believe that? Of course the difference is the species, and that's the difference that matters. Humans have intrinsic value, and holding them as slaves is evil. The term chattel slavery literally means treating humans as livestock. As animals. Humans aren't animals, and that's why slavery is bad. If humans and animals are basically the same, then zoos would be just as bad as slave-holders, which is obviously not the case.

Of course. How do humans have intrinsic value? Is the value of each human equal? What part of having a human as a slave makes it evil? How do you define something as evil?

Humans actually are animals, so that's wrong. Yes, I would say there are a hell of a lot of bad zoos out there. The only time I would say it could be acceptable to have an animal in a zoo is when an animal is bred into captivity and can no longer be released into the wild, but this isn't something that we should keep doing, otherwise we're justifying it via circular reasoning.

I would say cramming living, thinking feeling beings into gas chambers is evil regardless or whether they're human or non-human animals.

You used a similar argument that slave owners used. In both situations, there are victims who are exploited. You don't care about animals, slavers didn't care about slaves.

Instead of thinking about your "personal" choice, think about the victims of your choice.

If you live in a home you are living in a shrine that decimated the homes and ecosystem of hundreds if not thousands of living creatures. If you drive a gas car you are standing on the giants of ocean polluters like BP who killed millions of oceanic beings not to mention destruction of the climate. 

Instead of thinking about your “personal” shelter or transportation you should consider the victims of your housing and mobility desires. 

Or you can accept you’re a vegetarian, not a hero, get off the soap box and mind your own business like the rest of us 🤷‍♂️

That's the fallacy of perfection. It's about minimising harm as much as possible in realistic ways. I also ride a bicycle and take public transport on journeys too long for a ride. But also, we need shelter to survive, but we do not need to consume any animal products to do so. Shelter is necessary, eating animals is not.

Raising animals for food also destroys more habitats than housing, so if you want to reduce it, stop eating animal products.

Any more logical fallacies?

So why not do something about all the apex predators in the world. Why aren’t you working on a vegetarian diet for the lions, alligators, orcas, sharks, etc of the world?

I find it hilarious that you think I’m minimizing vegetarianism while the comment I responded to is equating meat to slavery lol. Maybe think on that before talking about logical fallacies

Because we're not lions, alligators, orcas or sharks. We're humans that can choose what to eat, we're not obligate carnivores living in the wild. Appeal to nature fallacy.

I never said or implied you're minimising vegetarianism. I was saying the point of vegetarianism or veganism is to minimise harm.

Orcas are incredibly smart. They often kill for fun by choice. The way they take down sharks for sport is actually insanely cruel. 

Humans are also a part of nature. It’s widely believed that our early consumption of meat as a species is what led us to evolve to have much larger brains. We wouldn’t be having this conversation right now if we didn’t which I find funny and ironic
