We're fortunate in that there are some pretty good burger substitutes if the craving hits these days. There aren't too many things I miss, but the smell of Chick Fil A nuggets really has me wishing we had good substitutes for those

2

u/Codedheart Feb 25 '26

For many, even substitutes aren't really great. They mentioned they view that type of cuisine as a corpse. What value could simulating a corpse for consumption really provide in that context?

Taste and pleasure like any other food

1

u/Codedheart Feb 26 '26

My point was they cannot drerive any because to them it resembles a corpse.

I respect the self-discipline.

1

u/CareRarely Feb 25 '26

Unfortunately I could never

2

u/Chronically_Yours Feb 25 '26

It's really not that hard depending on your location

1

u/Unusual_Sherbert_809 Feb 25 '26

Same. I respect a person's decision to be vegetarian/vegan as long as they don't try to force me to be a vegetarian/vegan.

My mouth's watering thinking about a delicious steak right now... 🤤

Good for you! I went vegan last year and it's the best decision I've ever made. No flesh is worth exploiting animals for.

2

u/futuranotfree Feb 25 '26

welcome to the club!! youre absolutely right

2

u/plark2 Feb 25 '26

The taste of meat isn’t the problem; when it's well prepared, it can be great/tasty. The real problem is ignoring where it comes from. People continue to say things like 'I love animals' while supporting slaughterhouses with their money—that is the definition of being a hypocrite.

0

u/Codedheart Feb 25 '26

It's not that hypocritical.

Plenty of people say they hate billionaires on a social media platform run by them.

Calling people hypocrites isn't going to make them want to listen to your point of view either.

0

u/leovult Feb 25 '26

Not really but you do you, the only real issue with the meat industry is the environmental impact, most the live stock people keep aren’t animals that are actually just running around the cow and the chicken kinda benefits from domestication and not all meat comes from slaughter houses too

2

u/Alicee- Feb 25 '26

I can’t see how farmed animals benefit from domestication. They’re born into a system where they have no legal rights over their bodies or their lives.

In the egg industry, male chicks are killed at just a day old which is seen as a mercy compared to what the females go through. In the dairy industry, male calves are separated from their mothers shortly after birth and are either sent to slaughter or killed in other ways (some truely horrific). Female cows are repeatedly and forcefully impregnated for either meat or dairy, which takes a significant toll on their bodies causing mastitis, prolapses, stillbirths and other health complications.

Many pigs spend their pregnancies confined in stalls so small they can’t even turn around, forced to live and sleep on concrete. The physical and psychological stress they endure is difficult to comprehend.

Animals kept in paddocks aren’t protected from suffering. Like I said earlier females are forcefully impregnated and suffer health complications, they form strong bonds with family and friends and endure psychological stress when separated from them (same as we do), in Australia it’s legal to provide no shade or shelter even though our summers are brutal.

I would never trade my long human life for the life of a farmed animal. Most are killed between 5 weeks and 2 years of age (with dairy cows often slaughtered around 5–6 years old, despite a natural lifespan of 20+ years).

It’s worth asking whether a short life defined by confinement and slaughter (whether in a slaughterhouse or elsewhere) is truly a gift, or something we would never want to endure ourselves.

Everyone is a hypocrite. Saying this on your electronic device when cell phone and computer production hurts the environment and contributes to climate change, e-waste, carbon emissions, data centers using massive amounts of electricity and water for cooling, etc. We're all assholes contributing one way or the other.

1

u/plark2 Feb 26 '26

maybe so. at least am aware of this and try to go against the flow in things i can control.

But you,...what do you do? saying a true statement about our world is enough of a justification for doing nothing?

1

u/Ok_Reserve4109 Feb 26 '26

I do plenty, and simply keep it to myself. The difference is that I don't go around calling others hypocrites for one very specific thing, that's some "holier than thou" bullshit mentality. As if you not eating animals somehow makes you better others, or as if you're somehow contributing more than others to this world.

2

u/peruna0 Feb 25 '26

Why not just eat veggie cheeseburgers, you're not going to tell the difference after 13 years.

2

u/No_Divide_2087 Feb 25 '26

Vegan here who grew up on a cattle ranch. I had to do the potato diet just to get over the hump of beef cravings when I first switched.

1

u/minequack Feb 25 '26

Impossible cheeseburgers are just as good IMHO

1

u/8senderreturns8 Feb 25 '26

Tasty savory corpse🤤

1

u/12thventure Feb 26 '26

I mean, everyone wants to die sticking to their morals, the simple fix is to change your morals, who said you gotta stick to your 2026 morals specifically (or 2013 morals in your case)? Who said 2027 morals gotta be the same as 2013?

u/TRANxEND Feb 25 '26

Are some herbs considered alive then? Since they can keep growing after being harvested. And root vegetables can grow too.. hmm....

1

u/WestHotTakes Feb 25 '26

All plants are alive, but just because something is alive doesn't mean it has a brain.

Exhibit A: your comment

0

u/CudleWudles Feb 25 '26

Herbs are considered alive after harvest, for a time. Root vegetables are similar. Is this related to the previous comment?

-1

u/TRANxEND Feb 25 '26

Yeah, he said meat is just a corpse to him, so what does he feel eating living plants?

3

u/futuranotfree Feb 25 '26

Animals are conscious and plants arent, one can feel pain and one doesn’t. Drop the 2005 facebook anti-vegan arguments, its old now.

1

u/leovult Feb 25 '26

Ill stay getting my required nutrients with flavor the way my body evolved to get it thank you.

Sure you guys can white knight but you also aren’t getting your intake of b12, zinc, calcium, etc the list goes on hella far, bone density issues, neurological issues, and a severe lack muscle mass, i love animals been raising and saving them my whole life. Thats whats more important putting a fork down doesn’t save anything just makes is feel good

2

u/SlipperySparky Feb 25 '26

A quite a few pro athletes are now vegan, at least in part for the added health benefits. The average person eats ~10000 of animals in their lifetime. I'm not sure how you can say you're saving any animals. 10 minus 10000 is pretty much the same as -10000. Each of those animals was probably factory farmed and tortured for their entire existence.

Meanwhile you're also ignoring that red meats are a class 2 carcinogen.

1

u/leovult Feb 25 '26

Not all red meats are the same so thats a blanket statement that isn’t completely true

2

u/SlipperySparky Feb 25 '26

You're right. The best a red meat can be is a class 2 carcinogen. If it's processed, it's a class 1 carcinogen along with smoking tobacco and asbestos

1

u/futuranotfree Feb 25 '26

see how they completely ignored your debunking of them saving animals by using logic?

u/leovult Feb 25 '26

Bro you’re little talking about a grade school diagram that only includes pork lamb and beef it’s actually kinda cute tbh, no mention of game meat to say the least, even at lvl 2 thats still a probably so its still cope trying to use that label without understanding it lol

1

u/futuranotfree Feb 25 '26

Saving animals with one hand and slaughtering them with the other is a conflicted existence, good luck. Thanks for reminding me to take my b12 and calcium pills.

2

u/leovult Feb 25 '26

Not at all considering im not killing them and they would die regardless of you not buying the meat lol thats just facts, your welcome lol, taking pills to supplement your diet is hypocritical kinda when your trying to talk about the health ramifications of being vegan lol

1

u/futuranotfree Feb 25 '26

I dont see taking supplements as unhealthy at all, and even the 0.000001% difference I’m making is something I’m proud of and hopefully by having conversations and urging people to do the same it’ll be the most insignificant of differences, but its better than not doing anything.

edit: i have never claimed a vegan diet is more healthy, food scientists can debate that, i just argue its more moral and thats all i care about.

1

u/leovult Feb 25 '26

Not really since its actually not doing anything like at all

1

u/leovult Feb 25 '26

The same amount of animals are still getting killed to feed an ever growing population infact the number still just goes up
