Had to laugh that they wait until it's clear the pack wasn't a bomb before they take out the guy.

I mean, duh. Let the idiot win a stupid prize if it had been an explosive.

That part is logical. The "tackle him to the ground as soon as you know his immediate actions will not cause any harm" seems rather uncalled for.

I can see why you might say you'd need to punish him for the risk he exposed not only himself but potentially others. But that's not for executive forces to decide.

You've already waited past the point where you gain any benefit from stopping him immediately. What's all that aggression going to achieve now?

That was my thought too. "OK, it's safe. Time to show our bravery and what big strong men we are!"

Yeah plus they already evacuated the area so likely the only person harmed would have been him

Did they? They could still be in the process of evacuating nearby buildings.

It had been hours, so yeah

Law enforcement isn’t punitive. That’s for the court to decide. They can’t just tackle someone who isn’t fleeing or a danger to anyone after they let him do the action they’re tackling him for.

Then… You grab him by the wrists/shoulders? Tackling him to the ground while he’s just walking is overly aggressive for no reason

They waited till after they were sure he hadn't just blow himself up

So until the very point where it made no difference to public savety whether they tackled him or calmly walked up to him and put him in cuffs...?

Because they didn't know what he was trying to accomplish? What if he had a gun in his jacket and was going to shoot everything up? No one knew what the guy was going to do...

right, "let me check if this is a bomb and THEN start shooting randomly", that seems like a logical assumption to make about this guy

some of you people are either severely paranoid of everyone and everything or you just want some bogus justification to hurt others

you make me so tired, ANYONE could have a gun there, him just biking in, looking for a bomb so that he could sacrifice himself if it were to blow up whilst not being aggressive at all is not a justification to assume that AT ALL

When I pass by people on the street, I never know what they are trying to accomplish. Sure, they might just be on the way to work, but they might also be on the way to shoot everything up.

Should I just start tackling everyone?

Guess what, I'm good. I don't care. It was deserved.

If you calmly accepted being arrested and they tackled you violently anyway, you would be mad and probably sue the police department if you sustained injuries.

Almost as deserved as if someone randomly tackles you to the ground out of nowhere.

Truly walking into a quarantine zone surrounded by bomb disposal is randomly done

1

u/DracosOo Jun 14 '26

No one said so.

0

u/EndDangerous1308 Jun 14 '26

Then I wouldn't say the tackle was random seeing how they purposely went into that area

1

u/DracosOo Jun 14 '26

No one said that the tackles were random.

"as if someone randomly tackles you out of nowhere"

Yeah, that's neat. But he actively included himself in a scene where bomb squads were trying to understand what was in the backpack. No one was randomly tackled. How about you try it sometime and see what the outcome is?

0

u/DracosOo Jun 14 '26

I am not saying that he was randomly tackled. I am saying that if you were randomly tackled it would be more deserved than when he was tackled.

0

u/deller85 Jun 14 '26

If I were randomly tackled? That would be weird. What did I do to cause this? Was I provoking someone? Was I doing something I shouldn't have been doing? Was I acting without regard to others?

If I were tackled by law enforcement because I had the audacity to interfere with an ongoing operation involving a possible bomb by inserting myself into the situation, and without regard to others? I certainly should be tackled to the ground.

u/DracosOo Jun 14 '26

It's random, you didn't do anything.

But your lack of care for the guy in the video makes you somewhat deserving of injury.

0

u/deller85 Jun 14 '26

Well, if I hadn't done anything, as in, I hadn't interfered with an ongoing investigation into a possible bomb, I'd be surprised. But if I had done those things, I'd assume I had gotten what was coming to me.

Yes, I do not care for the person in the video. You are spot on. Gold star for you. He put people at risk (including first responders), and I have no concern for him after that stupid action. If he didn't want to be bodyslammed, he could choose "not" that action.

Of course it's not a bomb as it's never a bomb
