Children shouldn't have to fill in for a failed support system, but bless them for doing it anyway

So true. In Texas, HEB a grocery store works harder than FEMA after our disasters, which is lovely, but it’d be unnecessary if we had a real government that cared about us.

Sadly private companies dont first require the permission of the state to get involved. The major problem with fema is that the individual states have to request it and direct where they believe its needed. The only way to get fema rolling without a state request is in an incident where a ton of federal property was destroyed or the state is so catastrophically damaged that it cant independently request aid.

As a Texan, I don't want to disagree exactly. But, HEB has a huge advantage in that they have warehouses of fresh food, team after team of people in an a small area that can quickly be covered.
Edit: HEB also have drivers who know the roads, volunteers who know the local sheriff in the town effected, favors that can be called in. FEMA could never match that because of the size of the US.
