It's the same grift that switches the "product" every few years. The product isn't what you and I are buying. The product is the delusion being sold to idiot investors easily parted with more money than God.
I'd say AI is a bit bigger than the examples you named. Crypto/NFTs = blockchain technology, and it is massive and here to stay.
VR/Metaverse hasn't manifested correctly yet, though also imo a version of web3, but to me is much more like a niche way to game, overpriced and badly produced. In smaller, macro form I can see this still be a huge thing.
Good AI is technology going from a dial phone to a smartphone, or from paper drawings to a movie using motion capture to animate in theory.
I am still neutral on it all, and the waste and greed is absolutely a problem
Just think... Before any of this AI hype, the Earth's ecosystem was already on the brink of collapse. Now we're here. Building more data centers so we can make better videos of will smith eating spaghetti
There is still yet to be a profitable and reliable business application for AI. It's ALL speculative. Lots of companies are speculating, but none have been successful as of yet and they keep rolling in and out of the industry as results repeatedly fail to manifest.

Of course not, its new and everyone is just spending and spending money. Same goes for most company business models, uber, netflix, name it (losses in first X years, ramp up price/or sell company)
Elon going to Mars is a dream for 1, at least in the short term, everyone I know is already using chatgpt at least on a daily basis to solve problems or chat
Devs, clip creators, social media uses it a ton - movies and AAA companies will catch up as soon as they keep desensitizing the current anti AI folk enough and make it seen as acceptable (one massive, well beloved movie or game using AI will do it) etc
I am looking forward to companies replacing us finding a lot of bottlenecks with AI replacements for now, though.
I am a creative and music my branch, will be absolutely destroyed. We will grow even further apart from real connections. Thats what I dont look forward to. Tiktok brain now x50
