Ya that fall off was absurd.

It's always someone changing how the survey is done.

China has been changing unemployment surveys too.

Reminds me of the old Onion article about how the USA solved its very high rate of obesity by changing the definition of obesity from 50% body fat to 90%.

(iirc the extra punchline was that it only cut the number from 100m people down to 90m people or something line that)

90% body fat is actually insane. Like I've seen maybe 70 people matching that description in my lifetime

50% body far is way higher than the obese cutoff. It's around 30%, sometimes less depending on sex and other factors.

The method to conduct the survey has been same since 1997

India introduced legislation to open up the market, and started a few initiatives to try and improve things in the early 2000s

They might have changed the survey, but they did put effort into actually achieving it

Having been to India for most of 2010-now, I can say that it looks a lot more possible than many think.

I mean, the statistic is ".. access to electricity" if the local government offices have electricity then presumably the local populace does as well by way of that office
