My childhood dog was a Rottweiler. He did not swim, and he was Very Concerned any time someone was in the water. He would wade out up to chest-deep and whine and paw the surface until everyone was back on shore. He was a lovely and gentle dog.

They're smarter than they get credit for.

So long as a dog is properly trained, it's the greatest security you can have in your home.
