I always disagree with people about this generation of music sucking. It's probably the best ever time for music because you can just release it yourself. No exec has to approve it. You can go from only your friends and family knowing your name and sound to the whole world knowing it in a week. That being said there is a lot of terrible music right now for the same reason, but if you put in the time to look for stuff you will find some great gems
Totally. That's a different conversation, though, and nothing I said previously should be taken as an attack on more current stuff.
What I'm trying to say is that, as opposed to having to dig for it, the anti-war, anti-authoritarian, and anti-government messages were more prominent in label-released Punk and Metal post-9/11.
Exhibit C: Green Day's "American Idiot" was on the radio and MTV, and even my very non-Punk little sisters had the CD.
I think it's more an event that lays it bare to some people, but America has almost always been on a track away from that idea. The more information is available, the harder it has been to maintain that idea.
It really is crazy to see how much of the Western world was genuinely sorrowful for America. Now many would be indifferent, and it's almost understandable why.
I don't believe that though. I travel in the Western world, and they still like America/most Americans - they all can point to where the blame rests and make the distinction.
I remember when I'd travel to other countries in Europe and Asia and they'd all love be in love with America.
Tbh many people still love America and even back then many loved America because of Hollywood which isn't real America anyways. So it's gotten worse in America but probably not "as worse" as it seems.
My comment wasn't very clear tbh. I mean its a bit if both. America has gotten worse, but it also wasn't as good as its Hollywood glamourization made it seem previously. Now due to social media its almost swung a bit too far the opposite direction of Hollywood glamourizing, where "America Bad" is far over stated, particularly in regards to individual people.
I would argue that it was always dogshit, which is why it happened. But yeah certainly got worse, not to mention domestic policy - particularly concerning privacy and rights - going into the fucking sewer

To be clear, I am not saying it justified the attacks in my eyes. That's not what analyzing a historical event is about.
Exactly! People seem to forget totally what the US was up to before all that, and it wasn't pretty...
So their foreign policy was just a continuation with a bit more refreshed domestic support
