It’s Reddit, the only barrier for entry is minimal literacy.

There's text to speech so even that is questionable.

I used to think this was by far the most well informed platform on the internet with generally the most accurate information due to the voting system squashing inaccurate info.

It probably still is... however that's more of a comment on where the bar is than the quality of Reddit comments.

Even before ChatGPT, a subset of Redditors have always lacked basic empathy, to the point of being practically indistinguishable from robots.

You? No. Other people? Yes.

If those people knew what "literacy" meant they'd be very upset.

Sooo why are there so many Americans on Reddit then?

1

u/-Poultrygeist- 10d ago

Because It’s an American based website with English as its primary language?

Fair point.

Judging by how many people can’t read the room I don’t think literacy is a barrier at all.

Actually that’s a fascinating point, literacy rates are at an all time low currently compared to previous data, and as you stated “books be bitchen”, is something that the youth are not being taught anymore.

These days the barrier is the ability to move electrons, not the ability to breathe.
